  • Oil on linen board
8 x 10" Painting is how I share my emotional connection to the rural landscape and my lifelong love of horses and hounds. I work exclusively in traditional oils and place an intense focus on “light” and “motion.” All of these – wildlife, equine sports, and landscapes – have a unique personality that I strive to capture: The stillness of water, or its lively streaming. The boisterous bounding of hounds, or the dignified stride of horse and rider. Each painting unfolds its own story in color and light—and hopefully, conveys a timeless emotion, too. My work is collected nationally. I am an artist member of the Salmagundi Club in NYC, a signature member of the American Academy of Equine Art, and an associate member of both NAWA and AIS.

  • Bronze
10.5 x 7.75 x 7.5" I was inspired by my visit to South Carolina, visiting a marketplace where local women were comfortably creating new baskets while surrounded by others for sale. I wanted to capture this beautiful story of the Basket Weaver, which is full of history and her life today.

10 x 10" Lenten roses are among the first to awaken after the frigidity of winter. These were particularly welcome popping up through the snow. I had intended to refine this further. But after walking away from it for a bit, in what I had thought a somewhat unfinished state, I changed course. The impression imparts the fleetingness of these small wonders.

This sculpture was formed by my blowing up a balloon and wrapping wafer think porcelain around it; then detailing it with 23k gold leaf. I titled it Clare De Lune as it is meant to recall the light we so often see on the side of the moon. It is part of a small series I've created in keeping with my nature theme. I used a particularly translucent porcelain to achieve the effect.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Acrylic On Canvas
    12.25 x 12.25"
While my father was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, he lived with our family for six years. We kept him out of a nursing home as long as possible, until the last year necessitated it, even though he had the long-term insurance coverage to be in one longer. This was his first stay in a nursing home during an extended family vacation. Nursing homes had always seemed to me in the past, to be places where people became invisible and ignored by family, so our need to place him there during this first temporary stay was very upsetting to me...plus that night he was running a low-grade fever from a sinus infection and wasn't feeling well. I took a series of photos and re-composed his image with others in the waiting room in wheelchairs, placed behind him. I soon learned that people may need to have this extra help, no matter how distasteful the prospect.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Glazed Ceramic on Found Object
    8 x 4.5"
“Perfect is the enemy of good” is a quote usually attributed to Voltaire. While I appreciated the warning inherent in the message, I was caught up in classical techniques that I felt were a historically validated process and a pre-trodden pathway to excellence. It was the “right” way to do things. I cannot explain…even to myself…how or why I yearned to explore other ways of working. Was it the isolation of the pandemic? Left to myself…fewer exhibitions to participate in…and time…? Perhaps that was the conspiracy allowing me to refocus and approach sculpture as if I was just learning for the first time. YouTube taught me how to make a cup from a slab of clay… No model…no armature…no mandate. I experimented with the ceramic way of building and after several workshops…SLAB Work took off. The results are portraits that are playful and honest and leave the viewer to come to their own conclusions. To rediscover sculpture in a new way at this stage in my career has been amazing and energizing.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Acrylic/mixed media on wood panel
    13 x 13"
I work intuitively, building up and sanding away many layers of paint, collage, and mark-making until I feel the painting is resolved. Bermuda Triangle was created during the pandemic at a time of high stress and anxiety. As with all my work, this piece is a reflection of my emotional landscape at the time. My creative process is a search for truth, but also for peace and resolution.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Polymer plate intaglio from original photo
    10 x 8"
These decorative prints are an homage to nature: flowers and birds. Traditionally, flowers symbolize decadence and the transitory nature of life. Ephemeral flowers become eternal in a photograph, the essence of their beauty and light captured with a camera.  Turning flowers and birds into eye-catching, decorative objects immortalizes them. This print is a cross-disciplinary fusion of digital photography and traditional intaglio printmaking. With an intaglio or etching, colorful flowers and birds become monochromatic. Nature is eternal, but observed moments are fleeting, the changing light captured by photography. How does a photographer represent them in some way that is different from the infinite number of representations that have come before? The nature of printmaking, which existed long before photography, suggests an ephemeral moment fixed in time, striking a monochromatic note that makes the viewer pause to observe it.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • collage and acrylic on canvas
    14 x 11"
This piece came about by participating in a group show, Collaboration. The show paired local artists with local writers, whose memoirs we were to interpret visually. This piece was based on 'Alfred', an essay about the author's relationship with a cockroach.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • encaustic, beeswax, on wood
    10.5 x 13.5"
Working in encaustic media is always a process of exploration and experimentation with frequent nice surprises. One has to be willing to allow the unexpected to reign, to relax control. Then the nature of the wax and the pure pigments reveal themselves without artificial constraint. Flowing wax and brilliant color dominate.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • Drawing on Rives BFK, varnished on panel wood
    11 x 14"
This is part of a series of indigenous birds in southeast Virginia. The symbolism of the raven is complex. The Talking Raven as in this drawing, is said to represent prophecy and insight.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Oil, graphite, charcoal on paper
    12 x 6"
I was challenged to create a painting based on my garden in an extremely vertical space. I wanted the experience and I wanted to keep it abstract. The climbing vine clematis worked here.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • paper clippings, wax pencils, pen, graphite
    12 x 10"
Detailed narrative mixed media collages based on concepts of recycling and repurposing, deconstruction, and reinvention. The pieces incorporate found objects and often depict provocative themes. The work ranges from whimsical to darkly humorous, informed by sleek modernism, pulp science fiction, and spiritual symbolism.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Print on Canvas treated with Cold Wax Medium
    12 x 10"
My inspiration was the beauty of the sunflower fields in Provence. The French so artfully place an object in a field of beauty so that artists like me will be inspired. I treated this piece with cold wax to make the piece stand out without glass and to protect the print from the environment.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Copper etching in black on white paper
    5.5 x 3.5"
On the Border is an etching based on an original landscape drawing done of a creek that marks the border between two states. Reflection following an unexpected illness in late fall prompted me to return to etching copper plates, the metal that first attracted me to printmaking. A harder substance that requires slow-biting ferric acid, copper draws out the production process but allows the artist to work in greater detail and delve deeper into the quality of line. The result is always worth the wait. Copper creates its own magical world, a visual link to printmakers of the past.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • marble on alabaster
    10.5 x 7.5 x 2.25"
I create expressive sculptural forms from natural materials, drawing inspiration from both nature and the human figure, yet venturing toward abstraction. The essence of my work often embodies a biomorphic aesthetic, offering a tangible representation of our human connection to the environment. The idiosyncrasies of each piece of stone or wood present unique technical and creative opportunities. I approach this with a blend of intuitive and calculated design solutions. The inspiration for this work was to upcycle leftover pieces in my studio. I am also venturing into working additively instead of subtractively.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Cold wax and oil
    6 x 6"
Everything seems so tense these days. There is so much stress, uncertainty, animosity, and a general fear of the future, the likes of which is a new experience in my life. It’s not just me though, everyone around me appears to be in the same situation. I am now seeking peace and calmness wherever I can find it, in hopes of offsetting all the negativity and worry about where we are all headed. I find that I can still find peace in nature, in beautiful undisturbed landscapes, and in the philosophy of acceptance, for those things that you cannot change in your life. When I sit calmly to paint these scenes it fosters serenity. My hope is that those who view the paintings obtain a sense of tranquility too.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Acrylic on canvas
    14 x 11"
In this painting, I capture an orange and a lobster claw at a very spellbinding moment with the fluctuations of light and dark to remind viewers of the beauty in everyday life. My goal is to imbue the viewers with rich sensations; something that will last through time and touch people deeply.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Photography, digitally enhanced, printed on canvas
    8 x 8"
My garden is full of inspiration but this bloom was almost fading. I captured the purple color while it lasted but combined it with a layer of watercolor that I mixed and photographed separately, to create a more painterly adaptation of how my garden usually bursts with color.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Soft pastel on Sennelier LaCarte
    12 x 9"
This young woman had thick blue-black hair and a deep rich red sweater. The light source was way off to the side and created a beautiful pattern of light and shadow shapes across her face. The challenge was to indicate all the drama while still maintaining balance with the soft and gentle.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Ink and Collage on Panel
    9 x 9"
My art is a celebration of spontaneity and the beauty that emerges from controlled chaos. Using collage with a limited color palette, I layer and then intentionally disrupt, often scrubbing under running water to reveal the unexpected. This process of destruction and revelation brings about surprises that I cherish. I then enhance these emergent images with a pop of color or drama to capture moments of vibrant contrast and harmony. Each piece evolves organically, blending intention with the unpredictable to create compositions that reflect the dynamic energy of creation itself. Through this exploration, I invite viewers to immerse themselves in the layers of my artistic journey.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Charcoal and charcoal pencil on grey MiTeintes
    9 x 10.5"
I was drawn in by the peaceful expression of this man and was inspired to capture this mood on paper. Charcoal seemed best for the look I was going for so I started with a light drawing on MiTeintes and filled in the darker areas with charcoal, lifting with a kneaded eraser where needed to render the features as well as I could. I added a few final touches in white pencil.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Oil and pencil on canvas
    12 x 12"
Field-test: to test something by using it in the actual conditions it was designed for Field Test is comprised of four small oil paintings: Yellow House, Checkerboard, Flowers, and Circus Tent. Each panel was painted as a standalone artwork that could also be viewed together as a quadriptych. After being isolated during the 2020 pandemic, socializing and exploring commonplace, frequently visited locations seemed like new experiences. The tasks, outings, and recreations that were once part of everyday life became not so normal anymore. I equated venturing out as some sort of field test of the new normal. Slowly we began to forget what that was like and life turned routine again. With this work, I hoped to capture the wonder, awe, and even hesitation with which we approach new experiences.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Silverpoint and Polychromos pencil on paper
    7 x 10"
Richard Serra's monumental, subtle, and astonishing steel sculptures in the Bilbao Guggenheim left an indelible impression on me. The surfaces of many of the sculptures are almost Japanese in effect to my mind, and I sought to evoke some of the patterns using silverpoint and a palimpsest use of Polychromos pencil.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Alabaster
    8 x 10 x 8"
Having created one-of-a-kind stone sculptures over the past fifty years, I normally work on a very large scale. The "petite" Rose Aura represents my joy in finding within the rock a form open, flowing, and involved. The veining of this particular stone intrigued me with its many veins and patterns.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Hand embroidered on linen
    8 x 7"
Wildfires happen every year where I live in California. They are scary and even if they’re not too close by, the air gets polluted with ash and smoke. Panic was inspired by the ongoing wildfires the year this was made. Hand embroidery gives me options that other mediums do not. Sewing and growing an image, stitch by stitch, adds to its narrative. The long process of stitching an encroaching fire, roiling water, or a flooded landscape raises the drama. The process of hand embroidery is engrossing and exciting. Including the weave and textures of the background textile into the piece adds to the possibilities. The potential of this medium draws me into my studio every day.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • watercolor
    8 x 7"
I have had two marriages and one long partnership. Living single is freedom with difficulties...I remember feeling lonely, unmoored, and also unfettered. But a partnership can present a different set of problems. My heroine is floating alone, in calm waters. Beneath her is a world of possibilities, danger, and infinite choices. She is free and pondering her future, as I am constantly questioning my own.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Bronze
    9.5 x 11 x 11"
Little Madison came to model for me but she was very shy and didn't know what pose to take. She began crying when she saw that people would be watching, but I promised her that they would look at me, and not at her. I asked her what she did for fun and she said she loved to draw. I said, "Me too! Would you like to use my drawing pencils and paper and make some drawings for me?" For over two hours she sat and drew, while I created this little sculpture. Her purple shoes led me to believe that deep inside this shy little girl, there was a big artist inside.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • mixed media--acrylic, cloth, wood, clay, other
    8 x 10"
As an artist, I work with paint, canvas, cloth, clay, wood, and found objects to create pieces that make the materials part of the subject matter. Whether abstract or figurative, my work will often integrate tactility into its design, but it is not the product of a conscious or intellectual plan; I believe I work within an intuitive context, as though the imagery springs directly from the unconscious in the manner of automatic writing. I feel deeply the mystery of things. As Martin Heidegger said, the fundamental question is Why are there Things? I feel that the things I create, like Baudelaire’s forest of symbols, look at me with comprehending eyes.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Acrylic on paper

I often transcribe works to explore composition and color and try new ways of working. In this painting, I tried to follow Cezanne's approach of using color to create the shapes and forms.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Watercolor and mixed media on paper
    12 x 9"
I am an abstract painter, and I work primarily in watercolors with mixed media elements, such as acrylic ink, water-soluble pencils, and collage. I’m inspired by the interplay of colors, shapes, and uneven lines, and I love the fluid, unpredictable nature of watercolor paints. Layering an unexpected mix of materials to create a cohesive whole gives me endless possibilities for creative expression. I work very intuitively: I always have a starting point - a particular color combination or focal point - but then I just go wherever inspiration leads me, often surprising myself! My artwork is often influenced by nature, and I find myself particularly drawn to loose rounded shapes, which have become a recurring motif in much of my work. These organic shapes might take the form of stones, eggs, or nests, and they speak to me of wholeness, resilience, buoyancy, and harmony. They feel like home.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Chromogenic Silver Halide (Chemical Print)
    14 x 14"
“Illumine” is part of a body of work (“Remembered Land”) which is inspired by my distant memories of the beautiful English countryside of my childhood - the numinous mood and atmosphere that I sensed as a child, the feeling of transcendental harmony with the natural world, and the eternal lacuna between memory and myth. “Illumine” goes beyond what we see with the naked eye, embracing the philosophy of tonalist pictorialism. Elements of emotionalism and romanticism emphasize expression, mood, and mystery through the use of color, light, shadow, soft focus, and atmospheric perspective. As an Atelier trained, multi-disciplinary artist who practices both hand-made chemical photography and the classical painting techniques of the old masters, my work goes beyond literal representation, embracing painterly darkroom techniques and pallets to deeply express nostalgic feelings about my homeland and its larger-than-life amber presence in my mind.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Every summer we would stay on the bluff overlooking the Skidaway River. On the incoming tide, we would put on our bathing suits and our tennies to go swimming in the river. But you had to be careful not to get cut by the oysters and the Spartina grass. That and rowing the bateau out to catch crabs and play with the dolphins was the best.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Every weekend I love hiking in the woods. One of my favorite hikes passes through wonderful gardens, and I cannot help myself but keep taking pictures of the beauties I find there. Flowers were always my most successful paintings, and to this day, I love painting flowers. I can employ the rich colors I love, and create paintings with intricate, interlocking patterns that nerveless result in a harmonious whole.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • pastel on paper
14 x 14" My work captures the subtle lights, reflections and hidden hues on the subjects. I enjoy painting ordinary subjects. These moments are often over-looked by most people passing by. I find it more interesting to bring out the beauty of everyday life than painting something already beatiful. These moments are such as the rainbow light coming through the subway station, or worn stones by the old dock at dusk. The pastel medium allows me to capture moments quickly with bold and pure colors. Timelapse videos of my painting process can be seen on Instagram @fangsullivan.

11 x 14 x .75" Most people find vines and moss to be annoying growths in need of pruning. I often collect "stuff" on my walks and use them in my art. They fulfill my need for texture both visual and tactile in my work. The moss in this case is from my photographs and altered in color. The vines represent what is often torn from trees. I think these are natural wonders and I continue to preserve them.

20 x 32 x 2" The world of the people of the streets is stripped down to basic survival, but with a need of self worth, ownership. The grocery cart has become the symbol of that need to show ownership of something, anything. A metaphor for they themselves, cast offs, other peoples throw aways.  The carts, battered and bent, with the wonky wheels we hate to get when shopping, they live with it everyday, until the carts themselves are discarded and they become a part of the landscape, the urban landscape, lawn ornaments, trash piling up in vacant lots, bus stations and public parks. Seen and acknowledged by all that pass by, much more so than the people that once used them to transport their worlds.

It could manifest as a harmonious composition, a symphony of hues, or a transient observation reverberating with a smoldering emotion's echoes. The impulse to metamorphose this ephemeral vision into a tangible form eclipses my cognitive and emotional terrain, propelling me into creative fervor. In that moment, the world around me dissolves, and I become an alchemist, transmuting the intangible into a visceral, evocative expression that captures the essence of that singular, transcendent experience.

Sometimes the idea for a painting spontaneously presents itself as in plein air painting. I am inspired by the quiet meandering of a river, the vastness of a desert gorge, or the way afternoon sun lights the curve of an arch. I may choose a subject; I may think “that would make a great picture”; I may visit a new place or one I’ve seen before. I want to observe and to present things in a way that causes the viewer to stop and observe.  We have the technology to immediately capture whatever is in front of us. Painting en plein air, in Rhinecliff, on the shore of  the Hudson, by the tracks where Lincoln's death train passed, I make my humble, everyday watercolor and consider carefully the way that two lines of infinite length seem to connect on the horizon, I think of the thousands and thousands of young men who died all can be equal in America. I seem to see the ghost of Lincoln, shimmering on the event horizon, "With the tolling tolling bells' perpetual clang, Here, coffin that slowly passes, I give you my sprig of lilac." - Walt Whitman I turn to the East and see an everyday field, no big stuff, nothing picturesque. My heart is in tears, exquisite America, I love you.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • refractured oil with poem
    24 x 20 x 1"
My work is about sky.  We live in the sky, usually at ground level, and it is the most volatile and vibrant part of our world, our every next breath. Refracturing cuts and reassembling the image into the pieces we focus on before our mind stitches it back together to one scene.   My addition of poetry that I write for the skyscape guides the user to the feeling behind the painting.  Sunset brought the proof, this was a beautiful day, it ended in gold.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Coming Soon is part of the ongoing series of Bog Bodies I started in 2008. While exploring the theme of Bog Bodies and the constant cycle of all organisms, our impact on the environment and daily living took me on a side road to look for more. Water is the most important part of keeping everything alive, and my theme flowing. But when nature takes a turn and brings drought, it leaves an imprint on my ideas. And my ideas affect every single aspect of my life.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylic on ashwood coated in epoxy resin
    22 x 18 x 2"
I'm Tasha Branham, a NJ-based artist, practicing contemporary multidisciplinary art influenced by Henri Matisse. Using epoxy resin, wood, acrylics, and more, I fuse mediums to convey storytelling, faith, and hope, aiming to encourage joy and healing. Inspired by God's grace, I parallel Black women with elegant flowers, striving to inspire joy and reconnect viewers with their imagination. My work has been featured in "Journey of Surprises" and displayed at Marcus Samuelsson LIVE! Bar and Grille in East Rutherford, NJ.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • oil on canvas
    24 x 18 x 1.5"
My work is representational though interpretive. I want the viewer to move between planes and have begun to layer using several techniques and medium to achieve this. Our eyes are constantly focusing, refocusing and readjusting as we view the world around us and I try to manipulate this effect through my work. I see energy in our surroundings. I am striving to transfer that immediate ‘colpo di fulmine’, that ‘love at first site’ onto my canvas or paper as I work on 2-3 pieces at the same time, moving from one piece to the next.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • oil on canvas
    24 x 30 x 2"
This painting is about loyalty and devotion to the art despite an impossible environment for the art. Despite sever climate, poverty, and faded future there is always a person who devoted his or her life to the beauty of the world.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylic on panel, framed with natural floater frame
    10 x 10 x 2"
In Heart to Heart Tea Talk, I explore the idea of connections that bind us as humans and invoke memories of past and present. The painting is an invitation to remember a special time as you perhaps had a tea party or shared a warm cup of something with a dear one. It was created during a time of turmoil to escape, meditate and process all that was happening in the world. They build and reveal themselves as I add traces of lace as a symbol of nurturing. I scan, print and collage handwriting, and add more layers to create a rich surface.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • litho inks on Rices BFK handmade paper
    4.75 x 6.75"
My series of "adobe" images uses commonly found objects (scraps of paper, pieces of fabric, nets from vegetable bags) to create images of beauty.  My colors are reminiscent of trips to the western United States, reminding me of days spent in the beautiful images that can be found around us each and every day.  I work in the abstract to invite the viewer to use their imagination to enter into my world, and participate in the beauty that I hope to capture.  My goal is to reflect the joy and peace that I find in creativity.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Our model was a wonderful person, covered in tattoos and piercings. I thought, at the time, so many people would consider her as different, but why? What if she was a Saint? What if she lived a life full of grace and beauty? I wanted to create layers of colors and hidden bits for people to find when they looked at it. Just like people.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

How to depict the illusive concept of sin? Choosing an apple strongly symbolized this religious meaning, but how to render spirituality, devoid of gravity, was the challenge. The painting method implemented was to paint a setting of various deep blues pushing space forward and back. The wispy leaf-like lines created movement and visually flowed across the canvas implying spirit. The apple, in its purest form and color, is braced by 2 branches and created a stillness... Now the apple is ready to be picked.

  • watercolor, colored pencil 30 x 27 x 1"
For the past fourteen months, I have been mourning the death of my daughter. She taught middle school ancient history, and my current work connects to images from those times. That’s what’s led me to look at a schematic of the Biblical tabernacle in Jerusalem and make paintings based on it. Some of this work has focused on the scarlet, purple, and indigo veils that divide the three sections of the tabernacle. Making paintings with these references lets me feel connected to my daughter and is helping me process my grief.

  • orange alabaster 12 x 12 x 5" Luminosity shines bright to get the attention of the viewer. Octopuses, with their three brains are brilliant and are on the top of the oceanic hierarchical chain. Their keen ability to sense their surroundings, the interaction with humans, and how they care for and defend themselves is a marvel. Luminosity was created to represent the importance of the ocean and her creatures. I , personally , have immense respect for these sentient beings. Man's interference has taken a toll on all these glorious beings. How can we understand the impact we have had and change what we have done?

  • wood, found metal, magnets 10 x 8 x 3" I love collecting sticks while hiking. When I return to my studio, I sort the sicks by length, width, straightness or curvature, and color. When a stick's bark is spotted or striped, it often remains, but I also carve, burn, and use colored pencils on others. My next step is to search through my bins of found materials to find the perfect match between sticks and usually abandoned metal. The entire process of creating is fun and exciting, filling me with joy.

  • oil painting 24 x 24" This artwork sparks a vital conversation reflecting the interconnectedness and balance within the microcosm of my garden and the macrocosm of the cosmos. My work draws inspiration from the life cycle of flowers to explore existential questions about existence, purpose, fragility, and interconnectedness. By blending recognizable floral imagery with cosmic visions through layered, transparent glazing techniques, the painting symbolically merges the micro and macro realms. This convergence aims to underscore how all life forms, from the smallest flower to the vast cosmos, are intricately connected and demand an open dialogue to ensure the survival of this universal interdependence.

  • acrylic on canvas 15.5 x 16.5 x 1.5" My work is all about New York. The sense of belonging, and the desperation felt whenever I'm not in New York. It is about finding the place where I feel like myself. My work seeks to ask the viewer: ‘what is it that you desire? Where is it that you’d wish you could be? Where are you the happiest? What are you doing or where are you when you are your most authentic self? Who would you so dearly wish that would appear in front of you? What dreams do you have? What keeps you moving forward? Through my paintings I hope the viewer will engage in a conversation that could also relate to their own personal story, their own memories, their own personal questions, hopes, and aspirations.

  • collage with acrylic and paper 18 x 18" This collage, which presents a destroyed landscape, comes from my emotional response to the devastation of human displacement. Working loosely with abandon, layering paint and papers on a panel, the intuitive process itself supports the creation of an abstracted evocation of the chaotic aftermath of a cataclysmic event.

  • 3D mixed media 30 x 23 x 5" War is the number one cause of child hunger. War destroys a country’s infrastructure thereby disrupting the chain of food production. This, in turn, leads to the vicious cycle of yet more unrest and violence. Children living in war-torn countries such as Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, Nigeria, Ukraine, and Palestine are very likely to be malnourished and ravaged by stomach-aching hunger. Where there is war and conflict, children are dying at a rate unfathomable to our well-fed sensibilities. How can we, as flourishing members of the global community, prevent these unnecessary and endless conflicts, these wars that result in the heartless deaths of millions of children?

  • drypoint with monotype & hand additions 17 x 15" I live in Maine. Every year we wait for the spring peepers to signal that winter is finally over. I use the process of monotype with drypoint and toxic free inks to freely express gestural aspects of nature that surround me. I used various textured offsets to get a nuanced blue surface in this piece which had several iterations. Knowing when to stop is always the question.

  • acrylic, oil & markers on canvas, plaster & found object 20 x 30 x 2.5" Reflections is a hybrid sculptural painting that expands the viewer's perspective and viewing options. Front and back sides of the canvas are visible simultaneously, revealing hidden elements & layered meanings, both physical and conceptual. Seemingly ordinary objects carry concealed narratives beneath their innocent façade, suggesting deeper, even unsettling layers. A dismembered bottle nipple with a faint human reflection rests in white impasto and in a busy background of suggestive textural movement. A partially formed, unpainted baby bottle precariously balances in front of a baby apparition that seeped onto the backside canvas. Reflections is about reflections and interpretations.

  • collage on clayboard with sgraffito 16.5 x 13.5" I used to have students render statues. As demonstrations, I started using the truncated female torso in my own work, repeating variations in different media- watercolor, oil pastel, woodblock printing, and more. This reflected thoughts about aging- how a statue can lose parts over long periods of time. What may once have been adulated in youth has changed and is now attractive in very different ways. This art piece uses the same torso shape repeated throughout the series, and adds a portion of a cotton lace curtain from my first home that finally fell apart. It is dipped in encaustic wax, which preserves it. The line work scratched in the clayboard suggests breaking of bonds or barriers.

  • oil on canvas 24 x 18" The painting is based on two stages of a dawn off my back porch, looking over the Salton Sea. Earlier the sky was darker, later, more light comes in. During this time the clouds also change. The two paintings, done on lose canvas, were refractured - cut up and reassembled - mounted on a stretched canvas - to incorporate the two phases. The following poem is written for and painted into the painting: Storm clouds, fluffy clouds All the product of weather, changes are the key.

  • poured watercolors, fluid acrylics & paper collage 28 x 24" Abstract painting is an opportunity, for me, to retreat into my imagination and paint with my “mind’s eye”. In recent years, the universe has been an intriguing source of inspiration. I watch from afar, wondering who or what is out there? For me, the big question is what path or door should I go through in order to better understand my place in a universe of spinning planets filled with other beings.

  • oil on linen 20 x 20" I take joy in going on plein aire expeditions in the beautiful Catskill countryside near my home in upstate New York. I love the beautiful landscape, the barns old and new, the animals and plants in the region. The particular barn in this painting was built by the owner himself - a former New York City discotheque owner! I was drawn to the colors and patterns in the scene and enjoyed talking to the owners. Plein aire painDDting is always an adventure and full of surprises.

  • acrylic 21 x 17 x 1" I am currently working on a series of Strong Women, inspired by artists, writers, and other women of prominence in their fields who have demonstrated a passion for their work and a resilience to survive, sometimes against all odds.  By delving into the past as well as the present, through paintings and photography, I have been inspired to recreate those images in my own expressionistic style. It is an ongoing challenge and hope that the finished portrait will give a sense of immediacy and permanence to the subject, that the strength and depth will shine through.

  • monotype (printmaking) 16 x 24" The Inner senses to me are as much of a truth as the outer senses. My art is an expression of that Truth. The Truth which goes beyond our five senses. The truth which goes beyond the senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touch. This is a truth of feeling and sensing, the inner world and the intangible outer world. I use visual art forms such as painting, drawing, printmaking and photography to express my inner and life experiences.

The Crown Act, first signed into law in California in 2019, now law in 24 states including Texas, prohibits the denial of employment and educational opportunities based upon natural hair texture or style.
