I am intrigued by negative space, in this case the remnant pieces left over from a chair shape I had cut out of a sheet of lauan. There is no preconceived idea formed as I start working with the remnants. The shapes are used as is, they are not altered or refined outside of some light sanding of the edges.
The effort in composing these disparate shapes into a cohesive whole is an exploration of rhythm and spacial balance. It is a process that I find continually engaging and satisfying as the pieces begin to come together to tell a story I would not have envisioned.
