At Sea
fiber art
12 x 12

At Sea inhabits the space between the known and the imagined, one of transformation, memory, and possibility. Through embroidery and other materials, At Sea depicts an organic ecosystem where elements interweave, with both fragility and endurance.
At the center, the mermaid explores the boundary between the ethereal and the familiar, self and surroundings, fact and fantasy. Often romanticized, the mermaid is reimagined here as something more complex—rooted, entangled, and inseparable from her habitat .
Celebratory color, coral-like stitching, the delicacy of threads, raw edges, and layered textures emphasize process and impermanence, inviting attention to what is unraveling as much as what is growing and thriving.
Natural elements create a dialogue between preservation and decay, artifice and authenticity.
This work reflects on care—for oceans, ecosystems, and the narratives we attach to them. It asks viewers to consider the complex, delicate world we inhabit.
