Indigenous worldviews include a holistic perspective of space and time that is cyclic and all-inclusive. I am inspired by Indigenous cultures that use balance and symmetry in their visual designs to create sacred spaces and artifacts that symbolize this holistic perspective that connects the physical and spiritual worlds. Native Spirit is inspired by Indigenous artifacts like the “totem pole” and symbolizes the integration of shamanic and spiritual practices with ancestral traditions. Free-form elements represent the poetic lyricism of the physical environment and natural forces (blue skies and water, graceful flora), and layers of light, transparency, and textural overlays symbolize the holistic nature of this synergy. I use custom software to weave rays of reflected and refracted colored light into this dynamic continuum. With digital technology, the medium of light becomes a vehicle for visualizing the poetic synergy between the physical and spiritual worlds.
