Town Asleep
oil on canvas
20 x 24
This work originates from the artist’s lived experience in the New England region of the United States, shaped by a sustained perception of small-town environments. Rather than depicting a specific landscape, the painting transforms low-rise, densely arranged architectural structures, repetitive neighborhood order, and a slow, restrained rhythm of life into abstract visual forms.
The upper structure presents a stable, almost motionless state, while the lower section retains traces of flow and accumulation, subtly implying the ongoing effects of time, humidity, and memory. The work seeks to capture a state that exists between stillness and latent movement—a small town not yet fully awake.
