This scene is an imagined seascape of drama and sensory immersion. I painted it after a walk on a December day when the clouds were steely grey, pulling apart to barely reveal a brilliant setting sun, but hiding the brilliance just a bit. The contrast of bright light fading into darkness struck a nerve, reminding me that light always triumphs over dark in the end.
