• Acrylic on Canvas Hope Springs Size: 48 x 48 x 3 Birds began to appear in my work at the start of the Pandemic. The beginning of the bird fashionistas - little characters that emulate the personalities of the people around me: They are fun to make and are a constant reminder of what is important in my life. When someone asks me “What happened to you during the pandemic?” I think “Well, a lot,” but the constant reminder of life came from looking through the living room window, watching a cascade of different types of birds vying for their spot at the bird feeder. Over and over and over! So many hours spent on the sofa just watching them and being thankful for being alive. While sitting on that sofa I did draw a LOT in my journal book. I wrote about the places I’ve been to, the people I’ve been with, meanings of the icons and images I was incorporating in my work. When we all began to venture out of our houses, I was more mindful of the journaling process and drawing the “memories” of place. The images in the journal book are the genesis of this work. • The Weight of Memory graphite and charcoal on canvas 32 x 24 “The Weight of Memory” was inspired by the quiet, interior space a musician enters when sound and recollection overlap. I kept thinking about how the body remembers—how hands on an instrument can carry decades of practice, longing, and unspoken history. Rather than depicting a specific narrative, I wanted the figure and guitar to hold that layered, almost tactile sense of memory: weighty yet ephemeral, grounded yet always shifting. Working in graphite and charcoal allowed me to stay close to that feeling. I began with careful drawing from observation to honor the structure of the body and instrument, then slowly built up layers of marks, erasures, and re-drawing. I focused on the relationship between the hands and the worn surface of the guitar, using shifts in edge, texture, and value to suggest how some memories stay sharply in focus while others dissolve into shadow. Throughout, I aimed for a balance between Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Maiores 1 watercolor 30 x 22 Framed Size: 34 x 25 I like to make connections between things I understand and things I don’t. For the show “She the People”, I chose to make paintings about the connection between the seven women heroes of the Old Testament and early suffragettes. Didn’t these heroes lay the foundation for how the suffragettes thought about women’s roles in society? I began the paintings with layers of gold, scarlet, indigo, and purple, the colors used to make the veils for the ancient tabernacle in Jerusalem and the ephod, a special garment worn by the high priest. Then I added the names. What emerged were Maiores 1 and 2 (Maiores is Latin for forebears.) celebrating Sarah, Miriam, Devorah, Hannah, Abigail, Huldah, and Esther. • Sarah's Ketonet watercolor 23.5 x 22.5 For the past several years I’ve been dealing with my daughter’s untimely death. She taught middle school ancient history. That’s what led me to look at a schematic of the Biblical tabernacle in Jerusalem and make paintings based on it. Some of this work has focused on the scarlet, purple, and indigo veils that separate the three sections of the tabernacle. Recently, I’ve delved into the Old Testament to learn about the cloths used to make garments. I’ve made paintings of Jospeh’s tunic, Job’s sack cloth, the high priest’s ephod. I like the repetitive quality of this new work and how it sustains me. After covering the surface of the paper or canvas with hundreds of circles or ellipses, I build layer upon layer of paint leaving some areas exposed. Making painting with these references lets me feel connected to my daughter and is helping me process my grief. • Midnight Ride Midnight Ride was inspired by the black horse I grew up with, whose presence and spirit left a lasting impression on me. She was strong, intuitive, and deeply expressive, and this monoprint grew out of my desire to capture not a literal portrait, but the feeling of being with her—the quiet intensity, movement, and emotional connection we shared. I approached the image through mood and atmosphere, using expressive mark-making and layered textures to evoke memory rather than description. Working with oil paint and a variety of tools, I allowed the surface to build intuitively, letting the physical process guide the emergence of form and emotion. The resulting print is both a tribute and an exploration of how memory, gesture, and material can hold presence long after the moment has passed.

  • Wonder Woman gouache on watercolor paper 22 x 15 In this piece, the inhibitions loosen and seem to disappear. This portrait projects the forces that lie beneath what we observe on the surface, revealing power, conviction, and role-play emanating from within. I wanted to explore their divergent emotions, projecting power, strength, vulnerability, joy, and women's power in multiple ways. We all want to be as powerful as Wonder Woman. • Recycling Plastic Is A Myth screen-printed on cloth 34 x 43 As far back as I can remember we’ve been told that if we throw all plastic into the blue recycling can, it goes off to become new plastic. Wrong! In actuality 80% of plastic goes into the landfill or is sold to brokers and shipped overseas; 12 % is incinerated emitting toxic fumes into poor neighborhoods who have neither time nor money to fight it and just 8% is actually recycled. What’s a consumer to do? REFUSE plastic. REUSE glass, wood, aluminum, bamboo. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • “Justice for All” sculpture 18 x 18 x 6 I will quote the definition of Justice, “At it’s core it means fairness" People treated in a way that is right, impartial, and deserved. • Runaway assemblage 5.25 x 2.5 x 7.5 In this painting, I used a calligraphic style of mark-making to explore the rhythm of a waterfall and its movement down a luxurious glen. The water ripples and splashes on its way to shoot forth in a glorious spray over the edge. Its vibrancy is echoed in the surrounding landscape. I used a tall, thin format to enhance the elegance of the waterfall, with rocks and ledges adding shape and structure to the water’s journey. • Where She Is Now oil on paper 8 x 20 The works in this series (Dressing Table Vignettes) are studies, created for conceptual development of larger works. They regard vanities as private, personal spaces where one may meditate upon memories and encounter a depth of emotions reflecting in the mirror about life, being female. Looking glasses are used in metaphor, for the contemplation of constructing oneself for the world – for pleasure, necessity, or perhaps protection. In my process, I deconstruct textiles and garments from my wardrobe to create surface assemblages as low-relief grounds for paintings. What emerges is a visual dialogue, evoking human presence, aimed at illuminating renewal and transformation allegorically contributing to the dialogue and conceptual expression. • Bloom photograph: hand-made platinum/palladium 11 x 14 In my art work, I capture the simple beauty in everyday life, the commonplace or ordinary scenes in the environment. These images offer us rare moments of solitude, time to slow down and observe the world around us, and to enjoy quiet beauty and serenity. reflection. I use water and light as beautiful threads that draw the eye in, providing an opportunity to examine nature. I use the platinum/palladium printing process to capture a softer, painterly effect, evoking late 19 th century idyllic landscapes and lending a poetic quality to the images. • Transmigration acrylic 36 x 60 In progress since 2015, transmigration meditates on death not as an ending, but as a threshold through which time, memory, and spirit continually pass. Transmigration explores grief and reverence, treating time as porous rather than linear, where past and future quietly coexist. I invites you to slow down, to listen for what remains after loss, and to consider passing as an intimate companion to life, shaping how we remember, transform, and endure. • Spiritual Journey acrylic on canvas 40 x 30 Spiritual Journey arises from my own meditation practice and the inner landscapes I’ve traveled in silence. The seated figure reflects the stillness I return to, yet the luminous spiral at the core mirrors the movement I feel within—a quiet unfolding that guides me toward deeper truth. This spiral became the heart of the painting, a symbol of the soul’s path as I have experienced it. The serpent-like current ascending through the body echoes the sensations of awakening and renewal that surface in meditation. As it transforms into flame at the crown, it speaks to the moments of clarity that come only through surrender. The gold and white wings surrounding the figure evoke the unseen protection and grace I’ve sensed along my own spiritual path. This work invites viewers to pause and recognize their own evolving light, just as I continue to recognize mine. • The Great Egret sculpture 18 x 9 x 10 I love biking along the Potomac River and watch all the wildlife including eagles, ospreys, blue herons and especially the Great Egret which migrates every year to the shores of Alexandria and along the Potomac tributaries. The Great Egret was carved directly into the stone, sanded and polished. It is an abstract shape focused on the essence of the bird itself and its graceful motion. After the sewage spill that took place earlier this year, this sculpture comes as a reminder to keep the Potomac clean and healthy not only for our drinking water but for the very rich wildlife that depends on it.. • Motion (with an E) mixed media 23 x 23 This piece evokes a pond teeming with life, energizing memory and awakening dreams for the future. It’s a breath of fresh air. Fragments of colored glass, mirror, textiles, and cherished charms gathered from an artist soulmate radiate like currents across the surface, recalling a beloved stream. Woven into a circular form mounted on a clock, this work marks the passage of time while honoring remarkable lives left behind. Hard and soft, structured and organic elements exist in harmony, reflecting renewal. This mixed-media mosaic is a vibrant celebration of life. • Tropical Fugue fiber art 64 x 61 Tropical Fugue was inspired by memories of Bali. Songbird serenades, expansive skies, and fleeting, cherished moments. My process is rooted in trust and a willingness to surrender control. The real magic unfolds in the midst of making. I embrace spontaneity and the unexpected, allowing fabrics to speak and respond to one another in a vibrant, evolving conversation. For this piece, I began by assembling organic fragments of varying shapes and sizes into intuitive motifs. These forms gradually suggested bird-like presences, emerging as focal points. Set against a white background, I arranged and rearranged these silhouettes, creating rhythm and movement. Surrounding borders were added to frame and contain their energy. Freehand machine quilting became the final layer, adding depth, cohesion, and texture. Each fabric carries its own history, gathered from distant places, its story stitched into the whole. Before the journey began, we gathered in a small restaurant glowing with warm light, a threshold moment where anticipation quietly settled around us. The repetition of mirrors and reflected lights suggested positive manifestation, as if the space itself echoed what we hoped the journey would bring and affirmed our intention. • Searching watercolor 20 x 20 When working in an abstract manner, my first priority is the color direction, I am interested in working with. As an intuitive painter, I let my mood of the moment determine where the piece is going. I then add elements of design and images, such as letters and numbers in a subtle manner, to enhance the visual process. I am also concerned about the range of values I choose, as I am also a high contrast painter. In the end, I am looking for a pleasing arrangement of shapes and colors that will pull the viewer in! • In Tongues sculpture 30.5 x 11.5 x 11.5 As a metal artist, my artistic evolution has been a journey of discovery and refinement, where experimentation with techniques and materials has shaped my unique voice. From the initial spark of inspiration to the careful execution of each piece, my process involves a thoughtful exploration of form and meaning. I am dedicated to pushing the boundaries of metal as an artistic medium. This journey reflects the enduring power of creativity, drawing on a diverse range of ideas and inspirations. Some elements are rooted in the past, inspired by old drawings and childhood memories, while others emerge from new emotions. Through my work, I aim to forge connections through my creations, transforming metal into vessels of emotion that resonate with viewers. • Suspended Shadows sculpture: steel, plaster, powder metal 29.5 x 13.5 x 11.5 As a metal artist, I am captivated by the dialogue between strength and softness, where steel and delicate curves intertwine. This sculpture begins with a clay face, grounded and resolute, symbolizing resilience. From this foundation, metal feathers emerge, catching an imagined wind and embodying freedom and motion. The clay anchors the piece to the earth, while each feather represents a movement and tells a story of persistence and care. Working with these materials together, I aim to create a harmonious balance that reflects the complexities of the human experience—where strength meets vulnerability and aspiration takes flight. Seeing Land After a Long Journey is inspired by my many crossings of oceans where no land is seen for many days. There is a special feeling of excitement when experiencing the first signs of land such as twigs, birds and the distant change in the horizon. With each crossing, I was reminded about explorers like Columbus and his crew who voyaged into the unknow and had sense of excitement and relief too when they saw the first signs of land.

  • The Ridge in Mist oil on panel 6 x 6 This painting began from a photograph I took while hiking in dense mist, where everything from the trees to myself, was soaked and quietly dripping. The atmosphere was beautifully subdued, and the steady rhythm of dripping water felt almost hypnotic. Along the ridge, a lone tree stood resilient against the haze, its presence both subtle and striking. Something about its quiet strength drew me in and compelled me to paint the scene. Through softened edges and muted tones, I aimed to capture not just the landscape, but the immersive stillness and sensory experience of that moment. I burn, dye, stitch, rust and drill wood, paper, silk and metal. I choose obsessive, repetitive mark making processes where traces of the hand remain. This summer I started making acetate stencils in an attempt to loosen up, and take a break from oil painting. I cut them freehand with a scissor, and without drawing a design first. It was fun exercise, spontaneous and surprising. I used these stencils for a series of acrylic monoprints, such as this one. When I look at them, I I can see the strong visual influence of botanicals and North African art, both of which dominate my summer surroundings.

  • When Time Bends acrylic 20 x 24 A moment where past and future soften, folding into a single, living present. Time bends, curves, and gathers, forming a field of motion where opposing directions converge. What appears as forward movement is also a return—a reconfiguration. • Figurines for Marija Gimbutas stains and metallic paint on cartapesta 8.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 If I hadn't been an artist I would have been an archeologist. The woman I would have bowed to and chased on every dig was Gimbutas. Marija Gimbutas was archaeologist and anthropologist known for her research into the Neolithic and Bronze Age cultures. She theorized that the arrival of the Kurgs—the original Proto-Indo-Europeans-- shows how cultures of domination and patriarchy took over the Old European civilization which was centered around the worship of the Earth, The Great Goddess. To make the figurines, I first made small clay sculptures and wrapped them in paper, like 'mummies.' When paper and hardening agents dried, I pulled out the clay sculpture, repaired the wound, and then painted neolithic patterns, similar to the patterns Gimbutas found on pottery from her digs in Eastern Europe, on the figurines.
