Acrylic on Canvas Sacre Sanguis Size: 36 x 12 x 0 Sacre Sanguis celebrates the unique feminine relationship to blood. In writing about the origins of life, Carl Sagan wrote “The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our applies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of star stuff.” The painting includes imagery of constellations and stars to reference that origin of all life on earth. Circles of tick marks suggest sunlight and the circle of life. Literal seeds –some dispersing--populate the canvas. Other dots and whorls reference the molecular basis for life. Lines of energy shoot across the canvas. And all float in the sea of sacred feminine blood, reminding us that women have significant literal, figurative, and spiritual power in the life of our entire planet. • cotton threads stitched on linen blend fabric, polyester batting, ink, needles, pins, and images of historic immigration ephemera printed on cloth
17.5 x 24 x 1.5" Long Hours, Hard Work, 1920 is one of a series of narrative works about the lives of immigrant women who came to New York from many cultures. They had the strength and courage to leave their familiar home towns in the hope of a better life for their children. Often their own lives were made even more difficult by this choice, but the lives of their children and grandchildren benefited from their sacrifices. The hand-sewn fabric is a tactile reference to the generations of anonymous, poorly-paid immigrant women who labored in New York City’s Garment District.

  • acrylic on Bristol board 10 x 8"
Night Music is my response to the sounds of nature I experience late at night from the deck of my cabin in the Vermont woods. The human sounds quiet down. My moment of solitude changes to reverie. I am transported by a symphony of natural sounds that fill the air--the rhythmic chorus of the frogs and crickets, the roar of rushing of water in the nearby river, and the percussive sound of wind rustling through the trees all rise up as i gaze at the stars in the dark sky above. The music is soon punctuated by the haunting calls of a pair of great horned owls. I painted Night Music to remember this magical experience.

  • Other
    graphite on 300lb archival paper
    Size: 19.5 x 29.5
The drawing "Other" refers to the deep divisions in our world today and the way we see and fear each other. While the work obviously refers to immigrants and the physical U.S. border, it also refers to the invisible psychological, emotional, and cultural wall that divide and separate us. I made the chain-link fence appear significantly thicker, sturdier, and with much smaller openings than a typical fence. This was to enhance its sense of impenetrability. I wanted to contrast the cold hardness of the metal with the warm softness of the human skin that touches it.

  • pencil and colored pencil on pages of an old cookbook 17.5 x 21.5" The work is a drawing of my mother in her WWII Royal Air Force Bomber Command uniform. Instead of drawing paper, I used pages from 'The Settlement Cookbook,' a guide she was given to teach her how to be a 'good American housewife' upon arriving in the U.S as a war bride. I drew her military logo with its words "strike shard and strike sure' floating to the right of her portrait. On the left, an old-fashioned stocking clip hangs like a war medal. Red stitches are drawn to represent the "woman's work" of her new assigned role in America.

  • Oil on Canvas 36 x 36 x 1.5" I rely on the unconscious to paint meditations that are beyond my daily life, using paint to express what my language cannot. This painting reflects my sense of awe at the recognition that we are but tiny specks floating untethered enormous cosmos around us. I used an analogous color palette to create the misty, blurry sensations of my meditation on this vastness. These ideas are beyond my grasp and beyond my words. I recall Carl Sagan’s words that the Cosmos is “beyond ordinary human understanding. Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity is our tiny planetary home."

  • acrylic on canvas 12 x 12 x 2" This painting is one of a series of 26 works that use the language of color, light and form to the boundaries between art and science and explore a holistic vision of the world. As both the daughter of a scientist and the mother of a scientist, I find the nexus art and science suggests possibilities of hope for protecting natural world. The painting teems with life and the beginnings of life: pods, whirlybirds from maple trees, and cells, interspersed with all manner of mark-making, including circles made of hatch-marks, wandering lines, spirals, and other symbols that reference prehistoric petroglyphs.

  • acrylic on canvas 36 x 36 x 2" The 36 x 36-inch panels are part of a series that begin with fall and winter, and as the images progress, a pregnant female form emerges from her leafy environment, and ends with new life being nurtured in summer. They speak to the intimacy of our relationship with nature, and perhaps a larger cosmic vision of the wisdom of embracing the feminine energy that birthed us all.

  • charcoal 38 x 18 x 1.5"
This Viking, who is searching for his next adventure or perhaps a flagon of beer, is inspired by permission to draw this from armstreet.com, a Ukrainian company that makes Medieval and Renaissance clothing. I've changed the figure to represent the story of searching, and perhaps the Viking here has been running along the beach since his leg wraps are in the process of falling down. The figure is drawn in charcoal with white pastel highlights on heavyweight brown paper glued to a barrier-treated wooden panel and waxed with an archival cold wax. Hence, there is no need for glass on this artwork. My charcoal portraits tend to favor theatrical lighting, costumes, and a good story.

  • compressed charcoal & charcoal pencils on extra rough charcoal paper 12 x 9" The lady in this portrait is from an image that was handed to me during a discussion about Edwardian costume. The image was handed to me as I fell in love with the Edwardian hat and jacket, but it was the sitters eyes that compelled me to draw it. She had a bit of spunk and impishness in her glance, underneath that hat. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

    Oil on canvas painting
Size: 36 x 36 I have been working with gesture, capturing a moment in time. This painting emerged from those efforts, somewhat as a surprise. As every artist knows, sometimes your intentions occur without struggle and it is time to stop and go with the image before you. • acrylic and mixed media on stretched canvas 48 x 48 x 1.5" As a native Swede I have always felt a strong connection to the ancient Scandinavian and Nordic culture and rituals, passed down from generation to generation in the form of poems, sagas and the ancient written alphabet Runes. I translate my memories from my childhood into textured layered paintings; ; weaving layers upon layers of paint, graphite, pigments, marks and symbols. My artistic journey is somewhere at the confluence of the removing and adding layers, the destroying and creating, and the notion that time is a reflection of change and inadvertently leaves an imprint.

    acrylic on canvas with craypas
    Size: 44 x 52
"Boxed" is my story of isolation. Painted at the tail end of the pandemic, I feel it applies univarsally to all feelings of isolation. The viewer of this painting is repeatedly drawn down into a deep box, but then urged upward into the open ends, evoking feelings of hope and release. Although this art could be listed as wall hung sculpture (relief) or as painting alone, neither description would be accurate. They are a combination of both disciplines which interact so completely that neither would be complete without the other. Unlike "assemblage" or "found object" sculpture these works are not 3D collages with elements highlighted by color. Instead through the use of many tints and tones of gray, the relief elements are subtly integrted with the painting. one flowing into the other. The colors themselves are controlled, yet full of variety, and held to a low intensity so as not to compete with the three dimensional elements. 11 x 14 x .75" Most people find vines and moss to be annoying growths in need of pruning. I often collect "stuff" on my walks and use them in my art. They fulfill my need for texture both visual and tactile in my work. The moss in this case is from my photographs and altered in color. The vines represent what is often torn from trees. I think these are natural wonders and I continue to preserve them.

  • Time for Pleasant Memories Acrylic with skins and collage Size of Piece: 11 x 14 Color has always been a major force in my creative process, and it is always an intuitive emotional choice. It is not unusual for me to look back after a days work and know myself better. These paintings were done during a period of calm after some difficult times. Luminous Evening emanates the golden hour's enchantment, born from a small study painted en plein air of a nearby pond. With a symphony of hues, I painted its canvas to mimic the sun's warm embrace. Peach, pink, and coral danced, while the pond shimmered with golden reflections. Trees stretched upward, leaves aglow with sunset's fire. Imperfections embraced; the scene exuded tranquility. The painting captured the fleeting magic of golden hour, inviting viewers to bask in its luminous beauty.

    Oil on Brushed Aluminum
Size: 16 x 24" I painted "Rock Pool" on site at Acadia National Park. My inspiration was the action of the water as it approaches rocky ledges. I also wanted to use the reflectiveness of the aluminum by leaving small amounts of metal unpainted. I used the colors that are typical of that geographical area- Maine. • Taking a Hike Oil on Mylar Size of Piece: 40 x 14 This work was inspired by my early years growing up on the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. In this work, transparency plays a major role so that the viewer can see through many layers of imagery. • Photograph printed on watercolor paper using liquid light 20 x 15 in. My photographic goal has been to achieve simplicity of design and composition reminiscent of classical style. I have created images, often using as my subject the reflection of my own body in mirrors. The reflected image brings a surreal quality to the images, transcending time and space. My model is a woman in search of her lost identity: a mother, daughter, lover, and divorced wife, torn between her traditional upbringing and her present life in a foreign land. In 1989, I started using “liquid light” on watercolor paper with my photographs in the darkroom, painting with this medium to show the brush strokes. In my own style, I achieve a unique combination of strokes and images, so that my photographs may look like Japanese black brush paintings. By using brush strokes I was able to bring flowing movement into my pictures, resulting in fascinating visual effects. • Leaping for the Pure Joy of It Photography Size: 11 x 14 Painting is my passion and where I find my happy place. My love for art comes from my Faith and the beauty God has created for us to enjoy. I am mainly a wildlife artist with attention to detail. My goal is to make each painting as photo realistic as possible. I love the details and try to show as much as I can in each piece of work. But my true joy is my family and spending time with them. I have been married for over 3 decades and mom to five amazing kids and five beautiful grandbabies. • Fiber Arts NUBIGI ,000,097. 9 x 14 in. All of the tiltles of art work include the term "NUBIGi" and a number. Numbers just state the order of art work.  NUBIGi means sewing in Korean. For me, sewing means passing through time. The needle pierces the fabric, and the thread connects the holes with the holes, drawing lines and planes from the points. Only expresses the sewing itself, shows that time is still in it. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • Blaze of the Brook
Linocut block print and soft pastel on paper
    Size: 18 x 12
This piece merges my love for printmaking and soft pastels, blending a Lino block print with pastel painting to create movement, line, and vibrant color. The Lino block was carved through a reduction process and printed on UART pastel paper, allowing the texture to enhance the contrast between bold lines and soft, blended hues. I chose bright, non-local colors to guide the pastel work and amplify the piece’s energy. The combination of these media expresses vitality and fluidity, capturing both structure and spontaneity. This work reflects my ongoing exploration of how printmaking and soft pastels can interact to evoke powerful emotion and dynamic form.

Through the magic lantern of art, I try to express myself and the events of my life. The entire life may not be enough to search for harmony. But the meaning is in the journey itself, in the very attempt to find this harmony and reflect it on canvas. Art is a way to live life by devoting it to the beauty of the world - this is my inspiration and this is a core of my creative process. • On the Eve of Apocalypse. Portrait of Great-grandmother Anna. Siberia, 1917
    oil on canvas painting
    Size: 24 x 18
This painting reflects the story of my great-grandmother. My great-grandmother and great-grandfather lived in Siberia. They were a wealthy family from the upper class. In 1917, the Russian Revolution took place and the civil war began. The communist Bolsheviks who came to power killed the rich and took away their property. My great-grandmother survived, although she lost all her property. The fate of my great-grandfather is unknown. It was impossible to talk about his disappearance. My great-grandmother's son hid his origins, because he was afraid that the new authorities would subject him to repression. Great-grandmother Anna was left alone, without money, without a husband and son and without understanding why she was punished like that. In the painting, great-grandmother Anna sits in her favorite lace blouse, with an album of family photos and forget-me-not flowers in her hands as a symbol of a request for us to remember her. On the small table on which her hand rests is a photograph of the heir to the Russian throne, Tsarevich Alexei. The photograph is a symbol of the great-grandmother's commitment to the old pre-revolutionary order. The fate of the Tsarevich is also tragic. He will be shot with the entire royal family by the Bolsheviks in 1918. The background on which the grandmother is depicted is a symbolic image of her native Siberian city as it was before Revolution, on the eve of Apocalypse.
