  • oil on panel 13 x 13 x 2" Jane Austen wrote more than two centuries ago, and her novels continue to resonate with readers today. They are a testament to the enduring power of literature to continue to inspire and empower women everywhere. “Do not consider me now as an elegant female intending to plague you, but as a rational creature speaking the truth from her heart.” ― Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • oil on canvas 12 x 16" This painting is about a woman who works at a small Siberian railway station, trying to look good and respectable even with a meager salary. She has a difficult life but she tries to keep her self-esteem. First I named this painting "Trans-Siberian Merilyn", but my hero does not have such a bright life, so I changed the title. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • hand cut collage on paper, handcolored 17 x 14 x .1" Women’s Rights issues have been top of mind for many of us. Along with an actual plague, the overturning of Roe V Wade and continuous misogyny has afflicted our nation and preoccupied my art practice. I decided to express my frustration and rage concerning our country's division and lack of empathy through collage. Using vintage imagery with contemporary themes in red, white, blue and black, and hand coloring with ink, colored pencil and acrylic paint, a political collage series was born. I hope to draw attention to the unfortunate retrogression of female rights in America. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylic on cradled wood panel 18 x 24" I recently drew an abandoned textile factory where generations of women, wives and daughters of men who worked the mines and the mills, worked long hours at the looms and held their families together. Their strength and fortitude supported the growing industrial power of the United States. The memories of these long-forgotten women reverberate through the dilapidated equipment, and the traces of their lives intertwines with the weeds that now reclaim the space. The drawing of the factory marks the history; the painting indexes the emotions of the women who worked there and the humming of the now-silent looms.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • digital photography, Inkjet archival print 16 x 20 x 1" My photo 'Reminiscing' is based on an encounter with a woman, dressed mostly in black, sitting in front of the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.. She agreed to pose for me and I took a few photos. She said she had been a student there, many years ago and the school enabled her to become a successful graphic designer. The other two photos were taken at a Long Island Peaceful Protest event in 2020, following the death of George Floyd.. 'Speaking Out' is a woman talking about justice and women's rights. 'Women's Rights' showed a woman with a baby on her back, speaking out about the need for equality in healthcare for women. She stated black women could not get the same quality care as whites, in pregnancy and childbirth.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • egg-tempera on panel 16 x 12" I am committed to creating work that radiates positive vibes and deep contemplation. My artistic aspiration, rooted in respect for Nature and Human beings, is often expressed in abstract form. I also explore human consciousness concepts in figurative works, such as perception, cultural beliefs, traditions, and lifestyles. I work in series or interdisciplinary collections that form a cohesive narrative. I love experimenting with materials and mixing the media in 2D and 3D works as I adapt to environmentally clean techniques, utilizing non-toxic materials. I believe in the interconnectedness of all things. In my work, I link the qualities of the natural elements with various cultural symbols and draw visual parallels of these correlations, using organic forms and interwoven trajectories. I am exploring the dynamic of movement and light - the light reflected on the surfaces of sculpture, and the inner light that works of art emanate, reflecting the artist’s intention. My process is intuitive and so are my findings. The unknown is what inspires me and keeps me going.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylics 29 x 23 x 1.5" I have always enjoyed studying the many subtleties to be found in nature. Color variations, details in objects, as well as the juxtaposition of objects all interest me greatly. In addition, I find symbolism in art and the various moods created by lighting to be very intriguing. But most of all, it is the challenge of combining these and other elements in the painting process that attracts me to create. This image "Spread Your Wings" not only brings to light women striving for independence but at the same time brings awareness to the Burrowing owl that is currently on the endangered species list. Bringing awareness to endangered and threatened species is very important to me. I’m continually striving to bring elements together that invoke a sense of thoughtfulness towards nature and how we affect it.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • oil, acrylic on canvas 40 x 30 x .5" One of my defining principle is establishing an open dialogue between forms and color in all aspects of my artworks, and to inspire a new way of thinking, as abstract art promotes the ability to express freely in an original way. As a trained classical painter, I chose to expand my artistic view on abstract forms that blend lines and color. I strive to capture the mood of the surrounding world through these modalities and am drawn towards the simple, unpretentious, and quotidian in framing my vision of reality. As a versatile artist, I work with traditional materials such as oil, watercolor, ink, and pencil, creating landscapes and still life artworks that truly capture the beauty in seemingly mundane objects and spaces. The creation of my art is a visceral experience, with my art being the tool with which I can express, envision, and share with others in unique ways the concepts of life that drive humanity most—such as love, truth, and the underlying beauty of the everyday experience.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • acrylic on wood 10 x 8 x 1.5" Inger is my mother. She has recently passed. I think most humans can relate to the importance of their mothers. The first face in one's sights. The dominant female presence shaping their lives. What could be a more vital character in telling the story of your life? Growing up I felt our school was really lacking in history. I only remember hearing about Inuit and feudalism and serfs and such. Therefore, as I have aged I am revisiting history whenever I can. I recently read about many incredible black women facing terrible racism and hardship but still able to be strong and make a difference in this world. Ida B.Wells was a journalist who exposed the brutality of lynching in the South. She also was a leading figure in the women's suffrage movement, having to go up against the prodominently white Women's Christian Temperance Union. Mary Church Terrell was one of the first African-American women to earn a college degree. She was the first African -American on the school board. She founded the National Association of Colored Women and the National Association of college women. And she was a charter member of the NAACP. What a role model in those rough times! Any light shed on these two incredible women is important to our history.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • oil on canvas 12 x 16" “I’m disappearing with my words,” said the Reading Teacher, dear friend. Vascular Dementia prevents her telling her story. On Tuesdays we laugh, despair, communicate about politics and wars, and draw-except her drawing has “gone, all gone.” Bereft, we watched another loss slide away. Watercolors bring joy; abstract, delicate strokes of color emerge. ‘Irony’ my portrait and painting of leaves, her favorites like years of women’s pages, scattered. It acknowledges her intellect and anger, and reflects that of others. Today, unexpectedly, she demanded, “Get out there, tell them.”   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • punch needle embroidery on weaver's cloth 30 x 24 x 2" Rejecting the insinuations often thrust upon the female form, this work presents a highly rigid and resolutely geometric portrait of a woman, without a stroke of curvature. It's depiction of a fractured facial profile calls out the notion of discomfort from unwanted attention and mis-placed celebration of beauty that women receive simply by just being out in the world. The Artist presents a reaction-driven portrayal of those exchanges, and simultaneously shows strength embodied in female agency. This work re-examines our perceptions on “social appropriateness”. The Artist's mission is to abstract identifiable features and remove individual characteristics to varying degrees, creating broadly familiar subjects that reflect femininity as part of the Whole rather than the Individual. The textures and micro-patterns in the thread-work accent the idea that there is no definable limit from where the fabric that we wear ends and our more personal and emotional inner weavings begin.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • acrylic 21 x 17 x 1" My Strong Women series focuses on subjects of historical and cultural, artistic or literary significance to our lives as women. These are expressionistic portraits that reach for an immediacy that resonates with the viewer and not be considered an attempt at a naturalistic rendition. As a writer/artist/photographer, I have also spent time working with the power of black and white (especially in photography) to convey the intended feeling. Translating this into the medium of painting is challenging ut a great satisfaction.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • watercolor 24 x 28" Painting , for me, is an opportunity to retreat into my imagination and paint not just the subject, but my feelings about my "story. I call this imaginative process “painting with my mind’s eye”; as I work to cultivate artwork that tells the narrative of who I have painted. I dribble, splatter and toil with water-media to create an image that shares the spirit of my subject and her experiences. In recent years, I have been working with ideas inspired by the life of women’s experiences from past eras. In my “ghost story” series, my protagonist is experiencing the past, in terms of her memories, the present in the form of reading and writing her thoughts and the hopes for her future.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Educator Statement As a Signature Member of the National Association of Women Artists and an educator at the Dartmouth Cultural Center I had the good fortune of participating in this inaugural educational event. The DCC students, Iria DeValles-Vieira, Beth Russo, and Robert Vesprini, accepted the challenge of creating a group artwork. Each of them created two pieces that narrate their interest in the oceans that are part of our everyday life. They started the project in mid-September and completed the work in mid-December. Working in class under my direction and on in their studios as a team. Weekly feedback and critique fuel the process until all were happy with the result. Over the twelve weeks they planned, executed, and delivered these amazing efforts. Each piece uses a construction tube as a substrate that was painted, sanded, decoupaged, and covered with found objects of their choice. These artists have taken numerous abstract painting classes at the DCC. They are quite familiar with each other’s methods and thought processes. We hope to display the artwork series, Neptune’s Rabbit Hole, in various public venues over the next several months. Given the amount of work each artist dedicated to the project they are to be commended for their excellent work as individuals and as a team. I am delighted to have steered the ship on this Imaginary Playground voyage. Participants Names & Ages Beth Russo, over 60 Iria DeValles -Vieira, over 60 Robert Vesprini, over 60
  • Educator Statement My artwork is grounding to my soul. I am taken aback by the beauty and intangible qualities of natural flora: the various textures; the amazing flowers and fruits and foliage; and most of all, the spectacular rejuvenation after what appears to be a most definite death in the bleakness of a cold, dark winter. In our largely urban society, the ability to appreciate our natural surroundings has become dulled-the ability to see the wonder in a tree, the magic and the mystery in a flower, the indescribable peace and contentment that can fill one’s heart. I try to show this to the viewer as my work is a surreal reminder of the peaceful, centered energy of the miraculous, natural living world which surrounds us. My collages are made from torn, recycled brown shopping bags. I am interested in the concept that the bags started out as trees and then were made into paper which was torn and collaged into an image of the natural world, which in itself provided the required inspiration and energy. A quiet harmonic stillness is comprehended. • Educator Statement My name is Tamara Zalianyak (Toma Zale), I’m an artist and art instructor for adults. My work is inspired by the vibrant colors of nature and I often use bright and rich colors in my paintings. I believe that inside every adult lives happy and carefree child and my idea is to enthuse the viewer desire for happiness and enjoyment. This approach I bring to my art teaching where I encourage every student to experience the joy of creation and love for their work. I have been an art instructor since 2016, guiding adults though a creative journey at various centers, community spaces, parties and entertainment venues. My lessons cover a range of topics, including color theory, perspective, landscape, seascape, still life, abstract and Neurographica©. Typically, my classes include discussion of the subject(s) or scenery painted, color palette and then followed by step-by-step instructions. I tend to choose bright and more complex compositions as I know these would challenge my students, provide sense of satisfaction at the end of the lesson and inspire for further learning and technic improvements. At the same time my classes are fun, joyful and full of laughter, fostering a warm and friendly atmosphere. They serve as great place for mental rejuvenation, creativity and socialization. It is not just about learning art; it is about creating an environment where minds can recharge, creativity can flourish and individuals can connect through the shared artistic experiences.
  • Educator Statement Teaching is a profound journey for me, a pathway through which I witness the emergence of talent in students as I impart knowledge and skills. It transcends mere skill-sharing; it's a collaborative exploration of creativity and self-discovery. I am thrilled and honored to be a guide, unveiling the distinctive essence of each student's soul that beautifully manifests in their creative expressions. I conducted the "Imaginary Playground" project at Hilltop Country Day School, a community of learners. Tiny books became a part of the mixed media piece right from the start because students wanted to express how important books are. "Inclusive Wonderland Imaginary Playground" became a canvas for discussing and visualizing a better future, fostering self-expression, and nurturing creative collaborations. Meaningful conversations unfolded, centering around the essence of what is important—such as the ability to express our best versions and the profound impact of love for learning. An innovative touch was added as students incorporated a mirror into the artwork's center, inviting viewers to feel included in the experience. Please watch a video where students articulate their collective vision for "Imaginary Playground," showcasing the diverse perspectives of grades K to 8 as they collaboratively crafted an "Inclusive Wonderland Playground." Further, I present individual visions from selected students captivated by this idea, offering unique insights. The 3D art piece titled "Four Seasons" by Colby Wood transports viewers to a magical realm, seamlessly transitioning through the changing seasons. It stands as a testament to creativity and imagination. Here is a link to the video of the piece. Thank you, NAWA, for this project and opportunity. • printmaking 8 x 8" Universe Series uses a variety of animals to represent life as they ponder the latest scientific theories concerning the Universe. These playful explorations look toward space and at humankinds' reaction to it. Who hasn't wondered what it would be like to live in the caves of Mars, thought about when we might be drawn into the black hole that keeps our galaxy together, or seen heaven when we look up at the stars? This work of art is a serigraph, or more commonly known as a silkscreen print. It is a hand-made, small-edition print, that uses my graphite drawing as its basis, and is an original work of art. What makes serigraphy the perfect printmaking method for my art, is I can retain areas of pure white paper, capture the tonality of my drawings, and place blocks of intense color that either overlaps part of the image, or lightly kisses the edge of image. Serigraphy is a modern printmaking method with a very old history. Stencil-based, hand-made prints originated during the tenth century in China. They made their first appearance in Europe around the 18th century and are used throughout the world today. This mode of printmaking has evolved over time, so that Modern artists such as Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall, Pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Peter Max, and Contemporary artists including me, have found it an attractive medium for the creation of fine art.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylic 11 x 10" In the hushed embrace of winter, where nature weaves a tapestry of solitude with its icy tendrils, my creations emerge as reflections of the quiet storm within. Winter, oft perceived as a season of retreat, becomes the crucible for a transformative dance between isolation and inspiration. As we seek refuge indoors from the tempestuous storms that sweep across the landscape, an introspective sanctuary unfurls, cultivating an environment where solitude metamorphoses into the catalyst for unrestrained creativity. This piece is an exploration of the delicate balance between the tranquility of seclusion and the tumultuous beauty of unleashed imagination. Each stroke, each contour, is a testament to the nuanced interplay between the serenity of winter's embrace and the tempestuous bursts of creativity that arise when the world slows down.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • photography 13 x 9" I strive to go beyond a subject's appearance to uncover a deeper, more elusive truth. That truth is revealed to me more vividly through the camera lens than through the naked eye. I see textures, and layers, and the way objects interact in geometric patterns to form other creations. I see shadows and reflections and sometimes an incongruous fusion of these elements. What I see in the camera lens joins with the impressions stamped in my mind's eye, informing the images I create.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • oil 10 x 10" As a landscape painter, I find nocturnes especially interesting and challenging. There is something special about capturing a feeling a nighttime experience has given us. Bright lights in contrast with cool eerie shadows allow me to explore different color palettes to evoke relatable emotions and memories.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

The results are oddly harmonious incongruities.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • collage 9 x 12" Different media enable a variety of ideas to form and emerge and small dimensions encourage experimentation. What one produces in monotype on a press contrasts with what one creates using encaustic and can look unlike anything done with paper collage. All three media are direct, spontaneous and playful. Here are three skyscapes or, as I prefer, three fantasies about looking out and up. A good way to begin the new year.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • pastel 12 x 12" I love capturing the essence of life with my art. Using distinctive coloring technique and imaginative approach, I depict the subtle lights, reflections and hidden hues on the subjects. The subjects are either close to my heart, telling a story, or from a memorable moment. Sweet Rain shows a rainy Christmas day in LA.    Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • oil 12 x 12" Each of my paintings represents the beauty of the ocean in an abstract and organic way. I am creating the ocean as it feels, looks, and what it means to our planet. This is conveyed through the movement of the water, the waves and currents like the rhythm of music flowing endlessly and translucently, and as a lens of above looking down at the richness of color and the islands being swallowed by the water as our oceans keep rising. While what is happening to our oceans is a dire situation, we can reflect on its beauty and what we can do to stop more irreversible damage to continue to enjoy the vast, wild, and serene place.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Ms. Smith’s insights are gained from a lifetime of working with and observing animals. Owning and living on a farm in central Virginia provides her a constant window on the personalities and activities of animals in their natural surroundings that inspire her creative works. • photography 8 x 12" I love photographing people on the street. This passion developed during travels to Mexico and Cuba. In the past few years, I have been photographing people on the streets of New York City. What excites and energizes me is how spontaneous the process is and how unpredictable people are. Sometimes people are unaware I've taken their picture. Others will agree to pose for several photos. I look for interesting places with interesting forms, light and geometry to serve as a background for the people I choose to photograph. What attracts me could be an expression, an action, detail, or reflection. You may often find me on the streets of New York capturing the fast-paced dynamics of life there.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylic 9 x 12" My work is about finding connections through shared places and experiences. I see beauty in the ordinary. I find inspiration from roadside relics, abandoned alleyways and faded and rusty signage. Often forgotten or overlooked, these places have stories to tell.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • watercolor 11 x 14" I enjoy working in many mediums and have fun while engaged in the creative process. I rarely if ever have an end picture in mind, as I mostly play and experiment in a very fluid way. I enjoy layering, trying new techniques and tools, and using more than one medium in a piece. I step away often to assess my next move and try to stop when it 'feels done'. It's often a very happy surprise, but sometimes the piece goes into the 'someday' pile/file for a future painting or collage. My inspiration comes from nature, color, new art supplies and processes, and language.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • sculpture 11 x 10 x 2" I am interested in the expression of color and reflections as a language. Because of the transparent nature of plexiglass it is possible to create visual statements of color and hue that are not available with other materials. My work explores the nature of individual colors and their interaction and reflections. The composite of the individual components creates a distinctive visual statement. My work is meant to be joyous and celebratory.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

When I get home, I soak the day’s finds in detergent, rinse and dry them, then squirrel them away in clear plastic boxes and drawers, along with things I purchase, that fill my studio waiting to be turned into a collage, assemblage, or mixed media art piece. I get my inspiration from lots of sources, including museums and galleries, magazines and books, art classes, artists, and my imagination and dreams. I constantly teach myself new techniques, experiment with ways to work with different materials, and share ideas. Many of my pieces come about serendipitously, trying one thing and ending up with something unexpected and wonderful, which is what happened for the pieces I am submitting.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • digital 7 x 10" Creative Spirit Unveiled: Inspired by the holistic concepts of space and time in Indigenous cultures, I explore ways to use light, reflections, shadows, and delicately balanced spatial relationships to reveal the spiritual strength and synergy that evolve with creative expression. I use custom software that allows me to “mold space with light” and create ethereal nth dimensional worlds with spatial and temporal transformations that manifest various perceptual dichotomies.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • mixed media 12 x 12" I enjoy layering in all forms to give my work texture and depth using different mediums and collage elements building on each other. Each layer affects and can transform the previous one. The layers can be a metaphor for life.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
