Driftwood sculpture: acrylic paint, printed material on wood 6 x 4 x 4 My love of 3d work and patinas inspired me to create this piece. I enjoyed working with the surfaces to create a weathered look. Structural formality with the dynamic randomness of collage, reflects the natural construction of driftwood. Layered Planes 4 Collage 16 x 20 x 1 My process as an artist is disciplined, intellectually challenging and inquisitive, much as it had been in architectural practice. I am not obliged however, to follow the many requirements that were once necessary to create functioning buildings. Works are now fantasy environments and constructions. I create vivid, colorful abstract compositions reinterpreted from actual building groupings or from shapes that come to my imagination. The first step in the process is to sketch out ideas, which I often change as I move forward to completion. I focus on juxtaposed, overlapping shapes, receding and advancing in space. The use of acrylic paint and metallic paper lend well to sharp delineation of each element. Mounting paper on foam core board for selected portions, helps create a three dimensional illusion for the observer. I am energized and made joyful by the world I create. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

Eleanor Roosevelt: No, I Mean Yes mixed media on paper 19 x 13 framed size: 27 x 21 "Perhaps in these times where we see women's rights being literally ripped away from us, we can be inspired by those in the past like Eleanor Roosevelt who battled the odds and never gave up -- she fought for us. Let's keep fighting with all we have, from protest marches to voting for change to electing a judicial body that speaks for us. We must use all the tools we have, including conte crayon on paper, to salute our heroines and ignite others to continue the good fight. The battle continues . . . Sisterhoodacrylic painting on stretched canvas12 x 12My paintings draw inspiration from the patchwork embroidery of western India, especially the vibrant palette, bold contrasts, and geometric, abstract forms. I build layered shapes and repeating patterns into a single, cohesive composition that carries a story and a sense of place. I usually start with only a loose idea of the subject, then let the work evolve as it’s made, allowing the colors, shapes, and forms to lead the way. The painting shows four women standing together, their heads gently inclined toward one another, creating a sense of intimacy. The surface feels textile-like, almost embroidered, with repeated marks that feel like folk traditions. Despite the complexity, the patterns flow together into a cohesive whole rather than competing for attention.Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

The Open Gateoil on canvas16 x 20I wanted it to be dreamlike. Like something you come across in a dream, in your dreams you don't usually see a lot of fine detail, it's the bigger picture that becomes clear. This painting was inspired by a ranch I visited on Smith Road in Oakdale. I had gone to a 4-H class with my granddaughter. The children were inside the barn taking a photography class. I was outside roaming around, when I came across this open gate. Something about it called to me. I felt a sense of longing--a loneliness-- if you will. Alone in this vast field. In my painting, I wanted the gate to vibrate with color. The glow gives it a sense of importance. Red is such a passionate color. I took the liberty of giving it an almost surreal color. It could be a gateway to anywhere--someplace in your dreams and your inner landscape, or just an open field on the Smith Ranch in Oakdale California. Oil on canvas 21 x 25 in. LOOK OUTSIDE The model for this painting is my beautiful granddaughter Jamie, with gorgeous naturally curly saffron colored hair. She is only 8 years old here, but she is tall, making her look older. She is unaware of her natural youthful beauty. I love the lopsided bow on the back of her shirt. Seeing the work in progress, Jamie asked me to put an owl in the painting. I painted a barn owl in flight. The owl, like her wisdom, is coming towards her, but in her innocence, she looks the other way. Pensive (Jesse)This lovely young woman sits at the sweet threshold of adulthood. Her skin is soft and rosy. She's surrounded by hearth and home. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

Between the Lines acrylic, ink, graphite, image transfer, and thread on paper 15 x 15 framed size: 21 x 21 Created in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, Between the Lines honors the ways women have shaped democracy through collective care and shared resilience. Based on the Log Cabin quilt pattern, traditionally symbolizing hearth, home, and safe shelter, the work draws on the legend of Underground Railroad quilts as emblems of protection and guidance. Torn and reassembled paper fragments are stitched into a quilt-like field, proposing democracy as a living structure sustained not only by historic declarations, but by the solidarity, dignity, and strength passed from one generation to the next. Inspired by the traditional embroidered Palestinian Thobe, it links Palestinians to their homeland and reflects cultural self-expression and identity. By cutting and stitching canvas, the dress creates a borderless composition, symbolizing the ongoing struggle and resilience of a society forced into scattered exile. It represents the unwavering determination to reclaim autonomy and pursue a brighter future, embodying the spirit of defying injustices to preserve identity and hope.acrylic, ink, graphite, image transfer, gold foil, & thread on canvas 42 x 20 x 3"

I look at my surroundings with inquisitive eyes and mind, with curiosity, knowing there are hidden treasures to be found and turned into art.
My artistic approach is mostly intuitive with a constant awareness of color combination and contrast. The use of strong colors is a direct influence of my Brazilian heritage. Using fabric as the medium to create my art pieces was a natural choice since I have been working with it from my teenage years.

ShariSize of Piece: 10 x 4 x 4 I worked with Shari often and liked her. She was a wonderful model. My work often takes off from the inspiration of the model, and it expands from there, but in this instance, I just wanted to be true to her. I hope I have captured her spirit. I heard she had died last year. This piece as a tribute and remembrance.. For the carpet, I used a brushstroke that looks very much like the couching stitch from Medieval times and I think that gave it a nice carpet like quality..I painted her skin tones and makeup with underglazes to be true to her. Coming to Life thread, watercolor paper, and foam board 24 x 18 I combine color, geometric shapes, and symmetry to create compositions that feel harmonious and invite the viewer to look closer. By stitching, cutting, and layering paper, I create windows of depth within each piece. My work explores themes of everyday thoughts, feelings, and experiences, aiming to foster a sense of personal connection that feels comforting, empathetic, and familiar. A recurring theme in my work is resilience. I have always been inspired by the strength and beauty of flowers, which bloom even in challenging conditions. Their resilience reminds me that, even when I feel helpless or frustrated by circumstances beyond my control, I can choose optimism and hope. I can choose to thrive and bloom. Portal to the Present No. 8 thread, watercolor paper, and foam board Size of Piece: 9 x 9 x .5 This piece is part of a collection where I began experimenting with a radial grid, guiding the viewer’s eye through and into the composition. While it differs visually from my work with other grids, it still reflects the core elements of my style. My practice focuses on creating harmony through color, geometric shapes, and symmetry. By stitching, cutting, and layering watercolor paper, I build depth and texture that draw the viewer in for a closer look. Using thread instead of pencil lines adds an unexpected detail, inviting viewers to slow down and explore the intricacies of the work. Secrets Among Blossoms Acrylics and Watercolor on Aqua-board Size of Piece: 36 x 24 x 1.5 Secrets among Blossoms- Life is a canvas splashed with unexpected twists. Those who master the art of embracing uncertainty and forging ahead are the ones who truly survive. Each heart is a wondrous chest, overflowing with secrets. The outward beauty may enchant the eye, yet beneath the surface lie veiled wounds and hidden mysteries. Frozen Blooms- is about the quiet toll of life’s hardships. The woman holds a bouquet of flowers—symbols of beauty and hope—but she doesn’t seem to feel their warmth. Her gaze is distant, her expression unreadable, as if the struggles she’s faced have left her numb. The deep purple tones wrap around her like a lingering sadness, while the bright yellow background reminds us that life’s warmth still exists, even when it feels out of reach. This painting speaks to those moments when we carry beauty in our hands but feel unable to embrace it, when the weight of our past makes it hard to see the light ahead. The Readersoil on canvas11 x 14On my travels across Asia I was taken by scenes of everyday life in which figures demonstrated a type of visual poetry. What Do Her Sunglasses Reflect? collageAdditional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.Size of Piece: 10 x 10 x .75This collage of a woman on a lounge chair represents a state of relaxation and reflection. I'm interested in using various color schemes that I think emphasize states of mind. In this case, the simplicity of black and white with touches of red--and her sunglasses, a visual reference to reflection. The title of the piece is a question since we can't see what the sunglasses are reflecting. I especially like working in the medium of collage because it gives me an almost unlimited supply of materials.

Romm's creative process-guided by intuition and experimentation-blend influences from music, poetry, and personal dreamwork to explore themes of transformation, rebirth, and transcendence. She often employs nature's symbols—drawing from skies, trees, water, birds, and other elements—infused with dynamic color to depict emerging forms symbolizing the union of physical (earth) and spirit (aether). These compositions blur tangible-ethereal boundaries, transforming her paintings into portals that invite exploration of mystical landscapes where sacred and surreal converge. Romm’s paintings are not simply representations but invitations to connect with the deeper forces shaping existence. Waiver -

The Great Divide
mixed media fabric collage
Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.Size of Piece: 10.5 x 10My artwork is a fusion of traditional and experimental media, incorporating collage with fiber, painted fabric, printmaking and hand stitching. My color palette is inspired by colors of nature, with contrast created by the juxtaposition of texture and media. I hand paint and print natural fabrics with acrylics and watercolor. Color families emerge, a collage begins, and I begin to stitch.
The Great Divide was created using an intuitive process. I created a balanced composition with hand printed papers, commercial fabrics and painted fabrics. The botanical square is a gel print; the cheesecloth "fabric" is acrylic paint using unconventional mark making tools. Once I established my collage, I began to use thread as structure and mark making. The strong diagonal is my Great Divide.

Oil on canvas 24 x 24 x 1.5 in. When my mother passed away I found I couldn't continue painting as usual and painted only her death for six months, always in an expressionist manner. Empowered ElderhoodSize of Piece: 34 x 32 This self-portrait honors the threshold between visibility and inner knowing. Wearing a towering crone headdress made from a vintage quilt and stitched wallpaper, I embody the elder archetype, rooted in lineage, softened by time, and adorned with wisdom. Two birds represent dual aspects of the self: one that carries memory, and one that flies forward. Flowers bloom, stitched in quiet rebellion against erasure. Each textile layer is a fragment of inherited story; worn, patched, cherished, and transformed into sacred regalia through collage and thread. Each element, stitch, scrap, and thread, honors the beauty and burden of experience. It's a claiming of space. The Living Room Size of Piece: 9.5 x 12.5 x .5The Living Room began as a pencil drawing of my own space—structured, representational, familiar. Layering acrylic paint and oil pastels, I wondered: can anything literal be abstracted, and why does that matter? As the work evolved, lines softened, forms unraveled, and the room itself dissolved into color, gesture, and memory. What began as a place became a question—about perception, emotion, and the shifting point where reality yields to abstraction. Years of experience in the profession of architecture and interior design inspire me to photograph buildings. I have a particular passion for weathered structurers; with colorful ones adding extra charm. The Caribbean is one of my favorite places to fulfill my vision. ‘Crayola’ and ‘George Street’ can be found in Nassau where there is a plethora of colonial English architecture infused with a vibrant tropical color palette. I pack my Nikon and wander the streets searching for potential subjects with sharp lines, high contrast and aim for compositions of colorful saturated blocks of adjacent solid planes.

Painting is my expression and my analysis of the world around me. It’s a progress of continual growth, which sometime fairs well and other times pushes me to go beyond my comfort zone."
My hope is that my art may entice your senses and inspire memories from that past or your future which is yet to be.
