Under Lock and Key
charcoal on paper
24 x 18

Under Lock and Key reflects a state of emotional guardedness—the instinct to remain closed off out of fear of vulnerability and harm. The composition is deliberately constrained within an elongated vertical oval, echoed by a custom mat and enclosed within a metal frame, creating a physical and visual barrier that separates the viewer from the image.

At the same time, there is an underlying sense of resilience. The sharp, unyielding forms suggest a kind of steadfastness—an ability to hold one’s ground without wavering. This tension between protection and endurance speaks to the complexity of self-preservation: the ways we shield ourselves, and the strength it takes to withstand what presses against us.
