oil on canvas 17.25 x 17.25 x 2" I have always enjoyed studying the many subtleties to be found in nature. Color variations, details in objects, as well as the juxtaposition of objects all interest me greatly. In addition, I find symbolism in art and the various moods created by lighting to be very intriguing. But most of all, it is the challenge of combining these and other elements in the painting process that attracts me to create. Bringing awareness to endangered and threatened species is very important to me. I’m continually striving to bring elements together that invoke a sense of thoughtfulness towards nature and how we affect it. oil on canvas 28 x 22 x 1" This painting is part of a my "Endangered Yet Unbowed" series of painting pertaining to endangered and threatened species. Florida Panthers are dying at an alarming rate. Currently, there are only about 200 known to exist in the wild. I feel we all have a responsibility to protect and bring awareness to all endangered and threatened species so that generations to come can enjoy their beauty.

oil on linen 20 x 20" I take joy in going on plein aire expeditions in the beautiful Catskill countryside near my home in upstate New York. I love the beautiful landscape, the barns old and new, the animals and plants in the region. The particular barn in this painting was built by the owner himself - a former New York City discotheque owner! I was drawn to the colors and patterns in the scene and enjoyed talking to the owners. Plein aire painDDting is always an adventure and full of surprises.

Seaview Oil on linen painting Size: 20 x 20" I created this still life given my love for the sea. monotype 21.5 x 17.5" My piece "Wandering Triangle" is one of a series of monotypes where I have experimented with movement and abstraction. Monotypes are often called "the painters's print" because they are a free, easy and fluid technique. People have often commented on how much directional motion they observe in both my prints and paintings. This may emerge from the fact that I am a dancer in addition to being a visual artist. In this case, the triangle subject seems to take a multi-dimensional journey as we all do in life.

paper, wire mesh, aluminum wire 14 x 12 x 2" Within explores the push and pull into and out of restriction vs freedom. Using wire mesh, aluminum wire, and paper, I created a series of 'almost-but-not-quite-real' gateways and spaces that could be interpreted as constrained enclosures or places of safety and shelter. My choice of the wire mesh presents a dominant texture and pattern, begging the question: is it harsh or soothing? While I try to answer this, I also invite the viewer to wander into the space and solve the mystery for themselves.

archival paper, photographs, & adhesive 8 x 9.75 x 1.5" Nature-Tecture #3 joins together architectural forms with plant life – thus the play on words in the title. As the third in this Nature-Tecture series, which searches for harmony between that which is manmade and the natural world, this piece pushes further on than its predecessors (#1 and #2), Here, I felt compelled to place the plants bursting out from behind these manmade forms. For me, they send a message: that they are present, vital, growing. This begs the question: What are we doing to protect plants, animals, oceans – and ourselves? And, what is preventing us from taking the action necessary to secure the health of our planet? Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Within #3 Mixed Media Collage Size: 10 x 8 Framed Size: 14 x 12 I create abstract three-dimensional collage by transforming flat images and shapes into raised architectural forms that add depth, texture and shadows. Using paper in rich tones, I cut, score and fold to build these forms, then combine them with other materials, like photographs, wood, fabric, metal, plastic, and wire mesh. The juxtaposition of these elements -- casting shadows and highlighting contact points – enhances the intention of each piece. I find inspiration from African sculpture; the Constructivism, Geometric Abstraction, and Cubism art movements; the work of Louise Nevelson; the ‘illogical perspective’ of Giorgio de Chirico and M.C. Escher; Joseph Cornell’s shadow boxes; and Frank Stella’s metal reliefs, among many others. My work lands somewhere between the real and the imagined. Each piece features doorways, walkways and passages, leading the viewer to spaces of mystery, questions and the unknown. These pieces serve as visual metaphors for issues that impact me, from environmental concerns and global conflicts to the search for inner peace. As viewers consider this ‘almost-but-not-quite-real’ world, I invite them to ask questions, like: What is it? Where is it? What do I see and feel? And ultimately, do I find myself in it, or not? Through these questions, I aim to foster deeper connections and understanding, encouraging introspection and the recognition of our shared experiences. Parts of the Whole Printmaking: Monotype w/chine colle, acrylic paint, gold leaf Size: 10 x 8"
My current work investigates the nature of communication - natural, political, interpersonal and geographical - to see how they attune to each other and hold the whole intact or fail and misfire. I use various printmaking methods like a cook would mix edible ingredients. The inherent notion of trust in systems as safety nets, protection and comfort is currently a consideration for every American given current political policy makers. It is only with scrutiny and discernment that we can examine which systems we have become complacent about saving or redeeming. This piece evolved from 2024 through 2025. Collage bits, text and gold leaf obliquely mirror current overload of information from which we are to extract our truth.

drypoint with monotype & hand additions 17 x 15" I live in Maine. Every year we wait for the spring peepers to signal that winter is finally over. I use the process of monotype with drypoint and toxic free inks to freely express gestural aspects of nature that surround me. I used various textured offsets to get a nuanced blue surface in this piece which had several iterations. Knowing when to stop is always the question.

encaustic 8 x 6" In my current work I am exploring cellular shifts and the many changes that affect our thinking, food, environment and daily life. We are swept away by images flooding our phones and on screens everywhere. I try and step back and reflect on the driving forces beneath view or below our conscious musings. I work in layers whether in monotype, collage or encaustic to represent these layers of meaning. Scraping away wax, adding layers in the press and obscuring text with collage seems to suit my eclectic brain. I want my viewers to stop and look and be surprised at these small works. I use symbols, text and images to tell a larger story. I want to draw in views so that the more they look the more they will see. monotype 23 x 17.5 x 1" I am using layers of printing from stencils that are not from recyclable materials to tell the story of our fragile predicament here on earth. Photography 12 x 12" The years before my Mother passed away, I flew cross country frequently to help with the numerous needs and to ease my mental health as she faded into the ether. I'd tuck into a window seat for the day-long journey. Flying gave me wings to get there, the speed to know I'd not miss another sacred moment and the strange euphoric freedom that being hurled 600+ miles an hour through the atmosphere creates within our nervous system. It was both exhilarating and horrifying...reminders “We are Travelers” on this big blue rock.

Works on Paper Life Force 22 x 29 x 1 in. My work from my teens to now is represented in transparent watercolor of nature or history. Living in California for 20 years, I took workshops in acrylic, collage, and monotype print making. From those experiences, my landscapes, abstracts, or non-representational paintings develop from how I view nature’s moods and organic forms. The current world events from COVID, changes in our climate, and challenges in our society inspired me to compose this piece, “Life Force”. The elements we possess are our best resources. punch needle embroidery 30 x 24 x 1"Rejecting the insinuations often thrust upon the female form, this work presents a highly rigid and resolutely geometric portrait of a woman, without a stroke of curvature. It's depiction of a fractured facial profile calls out the notion of discomfort from unwanted attention and mis-placed celebration of beauty that women receive simply by just being out in the world. The Artist presents a reaction-driven portrayal of those exchanges, and simultaneously shows strength embodied in female agency. This work re-examines our perceptions on “social appropriateness”.

punch needle embroidery 30 x 24 x 1" In an effort to reject the insinuations often thrust upon the female form, this work presents a highly rigid and resolutely geometric portrait of a woman, without a stroke of curvature. This work's depiction of a fractured facial profile aims to highlight the oftentimes nonexistent boundary between one’s ability to feel beautiful and overt sexualization when externally perceived. By abstracting identifiable features and removing individual characteristics to varying degrees, this work re-examines our perceptions on “appropriateness”. My mission is to create broadly familiar subjects that reflect femininity as part of the Whole rather than the Individual. colored pencil on paper 10.75 x 14.5 x 1" The original inspiration for Currents/Countercurrents was a view of wildly rushing waters flowing over a multitude of rocks in a pool of lake water. Each second I observed them, water would flood in anew to present more and more complex patterns. As I began to draw, vibrating colors akin to Op Art began to occur. I emphasized these, as well as building up the color in almost impasto effects adding to the frenzy. As the drawing progressed, it expressed additional meanings of the temper of the times.

digital art 42 x 26 x 1.5" I am a digital artist who uses synesthetic visions and sensory intrusions to create my artistic realities. As a Florida-based artist, the only frozen we usually get is the margaritas poured, so please pass the lime! I am a color-driven artist due to synesthesia. I am also a prolific artist who has acquired savantism and "feels" art 24/7. That feeling requires an intense amount of time and focus. I use so many digital tools for each piece that I have lost count of them. No work is created in precisely the same way. These three digital submissions exemplify how I use fractal art and delve into formulas and geometry. This method is often the way I begin my art creation but not how I end it. These works exemplify the variety I create as a "digital art chameleon." I am an abstract artist within the Techspressionism movement founded by Colin Goldberg. digital 12 x 12" Diana de Avila is an artist based in Sarasota, FL, who embarked on her artistic journey in 2017. During that time, Diana faced the challenges of relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS) and worsening traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, amidst these difficulties, her artistic gift suddenly and explosively emerged, fueled by acquired savant syndrome and synesthesia. Despite lacking formal training, de Avila has created over 2000 digital art pieces rooted in fractal geometry, drawing inspiration from the convergence of quantum physics, chaos theory, and divine order. Her cosmic digital art, both dynamic and serene, delves into various technological expressions of art. Within the artistic movement "Techspressionism," founded by Colin Goldberg, she has found her "tribe," continually pushing the boundaries of her digital art and exploring innovative approaches to creation. Diana holds the title of Signature member in the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) and is a National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW) member. She is also part of the Sarasota artist collective known as SArtQ and is represented by DEFINE Art Gallery in Sarasota, FL. painting 24 x 36 x 2" My painting "Kindred Spirits" bridges the gap between animals and humans. In my painting, Mwenda, a keeper in Kenya, says good-bye to his magnificent friend, Sudan, the last Northern White male Rhino. They are kindred spirits who blend together, just like their colors blend. Their curved forms are shared, heavy with a shared grief and unspoken love and respect. Together they form "Kindred Spirits" teaching Humanity lessons of extinction and lessons of Love with Sudan's last breath.

Mixed Media 12 x 12 in. The woodblock print Just off of Salem Street was inspired by a walk on a fall day at the North End. I love to walk around, gazing at buildings from different angles, and noticing their shapes and textures. On this cloudless afternoon, I photographed Boston’s architectural homes. The apartment buildings were detailed, climbing with long vines and beautiful windows. When I returned to the studio, I sketched, the inspiration falling from my mind to the paper. I transferred the sketch to a woodblock and began to carve the wood. Once the carving was completed, I inked the woodblock and ran it through the press repeatedly until the artwork was finished.

Wild Rabbit #62 Ceramic Sculpture with real 24k gold details Size: 9.5 x 4 x 3 A childhood love of fantasy finds its way into my work. I express the absurdity of life while drawing influence from unexpected sources like the lyrics of music and nursery rhymes. I have a clear vision of a finished piece before I start. With this idea in mind I immediately get started with a combination of wheel thrown pieces, coils and slabs. I alter by pinching, cutting and adding clay until my idea emerges. My pieces are decorated with colored slips and underglazes while still wet and then fired to 1830°. Adding pigmented washes and glazes for my next firing to 2232°. My final firing with 24k gold lustre completes the process. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
