cut & painted paper, wire, tissue paper on canvs 24 x 18 x 1.5" One of three different works, but all collage paintings, that are puzzles of design construction done layer by layer. I cut and paint each piece of the puzzle then assemble it then glue onto canvas or masonite. When I am doing each piece I do not know where it will take me. This piece is part of an on going series of works. I have selected one work from each of my series: Evil Eye Protection & #13 -Tissue paper, recycled fruit crates, wire, paint on canvas.

encaustic 10 x 10 x 2" Caribbean Cottages is inspired by the vibrant colors that abound in tropical seaside towns. The mesmerizing blues of the ocean provide the backdrop to quaint, colorful cottages that dot the landscape. These colors encapsulate the idea of slow-living; being present and enjoying each day as it unfolds before you.

encaustic on cradled panel 14 x 11 x 2" Winter presents a dichotomy of emotions and feelings to me. On the one hand, the holidays render it a festive time of year replete with family gatherings and traditions. In Polar Caps, I was referencing glaciers and ice fields in the northern latitudes and how extremely quiet and lonely it must be. This is the true duality of winter. encaustic on wool, silk, paper, & cotton 5.5 x 9.5 x 1" Dot Bergen is fascinated by processes that reference the passage of time; nature profoundly influences her work. She has always been captivated with mineralization, fossilization, weathering and erosion. There is beauty and power in change, but there is also a sense of vulnerability, the idea that nothing is constant. "Creating a temporal landscape of an ongoing process encourages the viewer to contemplate the past conditions contributing to this portrayal." In Dead Man's Party, Dot explores the fragility of the human relationship with the ever-changing natural world. Formed and Welded Steel 61 x 36 x 19"I engage our human and environmental predicament at the meeting place between serendipity and intention; where the beauty of the sacred found is enriched by fabrication. My art responds to crises in order to be a force for healing – on both individual and community levels. What we pay attention to, and how that affects what we choose to keep or throw away, be they materials, ideas, people, or specifics of the natural environment, can change the stories we tell and the potentials we allow. Materials picked up in the forest and desert, old things, everyday things – long used, or used and discarded – possess a resonance of memory and time; they are rich with meaning, nostalgia and reference. I make use of these references, enhancing, enlarging, and redefining their meanings through combining the unexpected. This process allows me to see how we might deflect a disheartening and destructive trajectory and generate different possibilities for our story.

acrylic, oil & markers on canvas, plaster & found object 20 x 30 x 2.5" Reflections is a hybrid sculptural painting that expands the viewer's perspective and viewing options. Front and back sides of the canvas are visible simultaneously, revealing hidden elements & layered meanings, both physical and conceptual. Seemingly ordinary objects carry concealed narratives beneath their innocent façade, suggesting deeper, even unsettling layers. A dismembered bottle nipple with a faint human reflection rests in white impasto and in a busy background of suggestive textural movement. A partially formed, unpainted baby bottle precariously balances in front of a baby apparition that seeped onto the backside canvas. Reflections is about reflections and interpretations.

acrylic on canvas 24 x 36 x 2" Kane's work always begins with line(s) of many types. Lines build upon lines to create a sense of volume and depth. Sometimes the result is recognizable visually. Sometimes, as in "Mixed Lineage", the visual result may not be immediately recognizable as a thing. Your perception of this image is your own. I hope you enjoy this piece and smile.

collage and acrylic paint 12 x 12" Ruth Bader Ginsburg blazed a trail for others to follow. Sonia Sotomayor, the first Spanish Supreme Court Justice and Elena Kagan followed in her footsteps. Mixed Media 15 x 15 in. This mixed media piece represents the struggle women have had trying to achieve their basic rights for centuries. The struggles that women of color have endured go back even further. The strings and ropes are representative of being tied and bound, as in being held back, but also of the binding and joining together as all women feel that common thread of sisterhood. The problems that entangle us still exist but by coming together as sisters we can fight for our basic rights and try to unravel the tangled threads.

acrylic 19 x 17 x 3" My inspiration was the beauty of blue skies and tranquility of nature. Just riding down the long road encourages my senses to explore the beauty I am beholding. The cacophony of color creates ideas and visions that I can picture in my mind and then bring to life onto canvas.

digital 10 x 10" These images are composed of a collection of bits and pieces that create themselves into a whole. They are pages from a book I am in the process of creating which is a summation of many years of collecting, using fragments both from my own photographs and from the what I can cull from the internet. The title of the book is "Lacrimae Rerum", taken from the Virgil's Aeneid meaning "the tears of things". For me, this phrase means that everything is ephemeral--nothing lasts. mixed media 60 x 30 x 2" Imagine my surprise when I was shortlisted by the UN for the Art of Climate Change! I did not end with the final online publication, but it led me to the study of our earth and world with both beauty and concern. acrylic paint, mediums, and varnish 30 x 30 x 2" Remember when we could just play? The idea of endless hours of sunlit fun, without the concern of being caught in the dark, has gone into the dream world of Land of the Midnight Sun. What if we lived in Fairbanks, Alaska? Would it be different? Would we play with abandon after work, as the sun found us hiking, running, and exploring far into the passage of the day? I imagined creatures, large and small, once hidden by shadow, now slithering and sliding, rolling and romping. The sunshine phenomenon was used to bring fantasy and a cornucopia of treasures, as a reminder that out of shadows comes the light of fun and laughter.

watercolor paper handcarved with scalpels 15 x 19 x .1" My bas relief paper sculptures allow me to explore the subtle nuances of light and shadow, as well as the delicate interplay between positive and negative space. Fauna features an enchanting array of florals, fauna, and wild flowers that have a touch of whimsy. Here I use watercolor paper, and scalpels to carve into the paper. I rarely plan in detail what I will sculpt and prefer to start and flow. Each piece is unique and takes multiple hours. I like to offset the rhythmic and repetitive patterns with a little chaos, opting for a dynamic and occasionally irregular composition, as if to convey the petals on paper breaking free from the substrate that binds them.

Bronze on Greek Marble 24.5 x 20.5 x 15.5"This work is prompted by the clean and efficient movement of the completely developed physique of an Olympic speed skater. watercolor, ink on paper 30 x 24" The painting depicts love and passion, often portrayed through the intimate interaction of the men and women in the piece. Using lines combined with watercolor and ink adds a sense of movement, life, and vitality to the figures as if they are in a passionate embrace. The composition suggests that the images are not only passionate lovers but also close friends, their connection goes beyond physical, and it is a deep and meaningful bond. Abstract elements add depth and complexity to the composition. The lines create a sense of life and energy, while the red adds emotion and intensity. I use abstract elements to create a sense of emotion and to convey a deeper meaning beyond the symbolic image

Outside Inside Acrylic on Canvas Board Size of Piece: 24 x 30 I feel that every human being is like a portal. We first encounter the external frame, but an entire universe unfolds as we step through the doors. Our inner world shapes our outer reality, just as the outer world, in turn, influences our inner state. A lingering sense of loneliness etches itself into our expressions, while a habit of noticing beauty and goodness softens our features, bringing light to our presence. Perhaps the most powerful anti-aging secret is a genuine smile—one born from childlike trust in life, the belief that everything is unfolding as it should, and the certainty that our adventures are limitless. There is an ever-present, knowing part of us—an angelic essence—watching over, guiding, and smiling at our journey through our many mystical paths. This painting emerged as an unfolding, evolving process that presented infinite possibilities until I realized it was not about choosing a single direction. Instead, I was capturing a state of being, a process of disc. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic 11 x 10" In the hushed embrace of winter, where nature weaves a tapestry of solitude with its icy tendrils, my creations emerge as reflections of the quiet storm within. Winter, oft perceived as a season of retreat, becomes the crucible for a transformative dance between isolation and inspiration. As we seek refuge indoors from the tempestuous storms that sweep across the landscape, an introspective sanctuary unfurls, cultivating an environment where solitude metamorphoses into the catalyst for unrestrained creativity. This piece is an exploration of the delicate balance between the tranquility of seclusion and the tumultuous beauty of unleashed imagination. Each stroke, each contour, is a testament to the nuanced interplay between the serenity of winter's embrace and the tempestuous bursts of creativity that arise when the world slows down. acrylic on canvas board 18 x 24" It started in 2013 as a mountain landscape, and it never felt exciting or finished until this year when I realized what image was hidden in it. I traveled in the Himalayas for the first time in 2008 and realized right away that any photos taken of them are just facades. The energy there was palpable, transformative; it was in everything and everyone, crystal, intense. Charged place. Trees, hills were engaged with each other and humans intensely. I am sure we all feel that when we are spending time in nature, but this intensity was very new. It was as if all colors became more vibrant, all emotions (especially bliss) became strong. Nothing ever returned to the feelings I had before the trip, which I know perceived as a bit muted experience. Meeting Gods changes you.

Educator Statement Teaching is a profound journey for me, a pathway through which I witness the emergence of talent in students as I impart knowledge and skills. It transcends mere skill-sharing; it's a collaborative exploration of creativity and self-discovery. I am thrilled and honored to be a guide, unveiling the distinctive essence of each student's soul that beautifully manifests in their creative expressions. I conducted the "Imaginary Playground" project at Hilltop Country Day School, a community of learners. Tiny books became a part of the mixed media piece right from the start because students wanted to express how important books are. "Inclusive Wonderland Imaginary Playground" became a canvas for discussing and visualizing a better future, fostering self-expression, and nurturing creative collaborations. Meaningful conversations unfolded, centering around the essence of what is important—such as the ability to express our best versions and the profound impact of love for learning. An innovative touch was added as students incorporated a mirror into the artwork's center, inviting viewers to feel included in the experience. Please watch a video where students articulate their collective vision for "Imaginary Playground," showcasing the diverse perspectives of grades K to 8 as they collaboratively crafted an "Inclusive Wonderland Playground." Further, I present individual visions from selected students captivated by this idea, offering unique insights. The 3D art piece titled "Four Seasons" by Colby Wood transports viewers to a magical realm, seamlessly transitioning through the changing seasons. It stands as a testament to creativity and imagination. Here is a link to the video of the piece. Thank you, NAWA, for this project and opportunity. mixed media 10 x 8" "Is it Me?" is a thought-provoking mixed-media work capturing the moment of self-reflection. It invites viewers to contemplate their sense of identity, self-perception, and their shattered beliefs. The title resonates with the concept of questioning and seeking truth while also expressing the vulnerability and uncertainty that can accompany such introspection.

mixed media 24 x 18" "Unheard" is a striking painting that features two female figures without faces on a bold red background. The absence of faces immediately draws the viewer's attention, emphasizing the idea that women's voices are often ignored and their identities are not fully represented in society. The red background adds to the intensity of the piece, conveying the passion and frustration felt by many women who are not listened to. The title "Unheard" encapsulates the central message of the painting - that women's voices are often silenced or disregarded, particularly those who identify with more traditional feminine roles. In a time where new identities and pronouns are celebrated.

orange alabaster 12 x 12 x 5" Luminosity shines bright to get the attention of the viewer. Octopuses, with their three brains are brilliant and are on the top of the oceanic hierarchical chain. Their keen ability to sense their surroundings, the interaction with humans, and how they care for and defend themselves is a marvel. Luminosity was created to represent the importance of the ocean and her creatures. I , personally , have immense respect for these sentient beings. Man's interference has taken a toll on all these glorious beings. How can we understand the impact we have had and change what we have done?

poured watercolors, fluid acrylics & paper collage 28 x 24" Abstract painting is an opportunity, for me, to retreat into my imagination and paint with my “mind’s eye”. In recent years, the universe has been an intriguing source of inspiration. I watch from afar, wondering who or what is out there? For me, the big question is what path or door should I go through in order to better understand my place in a universe of spinning planets filled with other beings.
