gouache and mixed media on paper 46 x 35" I create abstract paintings on paper where color and chaos collide. Each painting weaves it way to its desired end. It is complete when it feels right. Oil on Linen Girl: Fortuna Waits Size: 16 x 20 Framed Size: 21 x 25 I found an irresistible reference in the newspaper. It was a horror movie clip. Taken Raspberry Alabaster Size of Piece: 17 x 13 x 10 One night in April, 2014, 276 schoolgirls in Chibok, Nigeria were kidnapped by a terrorist group called Boko Haram. This horrific news transfixed me and I made my sculpture, 'Taken', in response. I worked on the piece for months as their story remained alive for me, even as it faded in the news. In the time since, the 'Me Too' movement has publicized the global pervasiveness of sexual abuse, violence and repression. Artworks should hold the mirror, too. watercolor on paper 8 x 8" My artwork is inspired by the life I see in things like stains and cracks on sidewalks, La Marchande d'oeufs is based on a crack from a sidewalk in my home city of Providence. Like all of my watercolors, this one is characterized style by minimal lines and childlike shading. My process is not defined by preconceived ideas on my part, but rather one in which I listen to the stains and the cracks that call out to me.

Akan Warrior I Inks, clay, wood, textile, yarns, found objects Size of Piece: 46 x 12 x 8 Akan Warrior is a sculptural embodiment of resilience, strength, and ancestral memory. Created with inks, clay, wood, textiles, yarns, and found objects, this piece emerges from a deep engagement with the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade. Inspired by a visit to Cape Coast and Elmina Castles in Ghana, the work reflects the imprints of history—faces and figures abstracted in the dungeon walls, silent witnesses to untold suffering. This warrior figure stands as a guardian of remembrance, honoring those who endured displacement and oppression. The use of layered materials mirrors the complexity of identity, history, and survival. Textiles and yarns reference cultural traditions and continuity, while clay and wood evoke the raw elements of the land—earth and trees that bore witness to history. Through Akan Warrior, the past finds a voice, urging reflection on historical injustices and their ongoing impact on contemporary experiences. Enchanted Colors #1 Acrylic on Canvas Size of Piece: 20 x 20 "Enchanted Colors," and “Dialogue With Colors-Across The Sphere” emerged from my fascination with the interplay of vibrant hues and organic forms. The inspiration came from moments of reflection on nature's subtle beauty and the emotional resonance colors evoke. My creative process involves layering paint, allowing the colors to blend, interact, and reveal unexpected patterns and textures. I let intuition guide the flow of each brushstroke, embracing spontaneity while balancing structure and abstraction. In this work, I sought to capture a sense of movement and wonder—a visual echo of fleeting memories and emotions. The vibrant pinks, blues, and greens reflect an internal dialogue of joy, introspection, and curiosity. Through this piece, I aim to invite viewers into a world of dynamic Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

Heartfelt Remembrance #18 Mixed Media: Acrylics, inks, medium, collage, aquarelle, wire Size: 12 x 12 This series holds a special place in my heart. The year 2020 brought profound loss, touching lives directly and indirectly, leaving us with broken hearts. As we grieve and mend, we carry the memories of our loved ones, finding strength in the process of stitching together what remains. When I began this series, the compositions were infused with affirmations and quotes about loss—words that remind us how to carry on while holding those we've lost close to our hearts. These pieces speak to the unseen yet felt presence of our loved ones, always beside us, guiding and watching over us. In my own life, I’ve had moments where I narrowly escaped harm and felt the comforting, heavenly presence of my mother. These experiences inspired the affirmations embedded in this series. Each work in Heartful Remembrance incorporates two or more quotes, some hidden beneath layers of the composition, others faintly visible. Whether seen or unseen, I believe these words emanate an energy of love and hope, carrying blessings to those who connect with the work. In light of ongoing global challenges, I dedicate this series to honor those who have fought and continue to fight for their rights and freedoms. It is my hope that these pieces offer solace and inspiration to all who encounter them. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

drawing 9 x 12" The ink drawing of the Lumberville, PA Foot Bridge is a simplified, almost Zen like attempt to honor an early suspension cable bridge designed by John A. Roebling, the architect of the Brooklyn Bridge. Roebling was the inventor of the suspension cable and needed to test the cables to make sure they were strong enough to sustain a bridge. The first suspension cable bridge he designed was the foot bridge located in Lumberville PA. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

watercolor & gouache 24 x 40 x 2" As winter fades and the season changes to spring in the tristate area of NJ, NY and PA the earth renews itself. It is like a resurrection of sorts that becomes apparent gradually. Spirits run high as the days get longer and the sun shines brighter. My work reflects the joy I feel during spring resurrection. My painting was created with watercolor and gouache on 140lb cold press paper and then mounted onto cradleboard with heavy gel medium. It is preserved with gallery series, Acid-free, UV protected, non-yellowing, matt spray varnish that also repels dirt and moisture.

oil, resin, intestinal lining on wood panel 80 x 36 x 2" My paintings blend classical techniques with avant-garde mediums and invite us to transcend traditional art's boundaries, encouraging a dialogue between the known and the unknown. I extract flesh from shadow, unveiling the unseen and inviting viewers into a world where the mystical and modern coalesce. In my work, I compose a space for introspection, where viewers can embark on a personal journey to unearth the hidden truths within themselves and the universe they inhabit. Painting becomes a ritual, a conduit for channeling raw and arcane forces from the depths of my subconscious. The deliberate use of texture and pattern engages the senses, compelling viewers to see and feel the complex interplay of elements within my creations. It adds a unique and visceral dimension to my work. The goal is not to elicit a singular interpretation but to create a visual moment that urges reflection on the profound connection between humanity, the natural world, and the divine. My work is a journey into the realms of the soul, where the sacred and the mundane coexist, and the boundaries between life and death blur. fresco (plaster); salvaged wood 22.5 x 24 x 2"
-
fresco, salvaged wood on panel 30 x 24" I’m constantly “puzzling” pieces together, whether in the studio, in nature, or in an urban environment; repeatedly picking things up and rearranging them. I’m fascinated with the interplay of contrasting materials and, at times, the contrast within those very materials. In this work, there is a juxtaposition of warm and cool colors, as well as warm and cool materials. There is also a juxtaposition within the elements, with the warmer colors in the cool, smooth texture of the plaster, and the cooler color in the warm, rough texture of the wood. From these relationships, a dialogue is born. I think this dialogue is what enables a work to resonate as both simple and complex, simultaneously.

oil on canvas 54 x 48 x 1.25" Immersing myself in my painting process, leaving no room for thinking, I work spontaneously in an intuitive moment-to-moment way without knowing what the end result will be. Then comes a moment when the whole thing comes together and an inner voice shouts, "YES!". It is done. Stepping back and fully taking in what has emerged, my deep response suggests a title that is surprising, something I never would have "thought" of, yet feels so right. My title for this painting is a phrase that the Japanese Zen Master Dogen (1200-1253) uses as a metaphor in his "Mountains and Rivers Sutra" to refer to the whole network of interdependent origination in which we are all constantly coming and going. The whole universe is continually changing and we are one with this movement.

Marshall Printmaking Size: 8 x 12 Framed Size: 12 x 15 I make prints and drawings of the people I love, the people who are part of my community. I find them in their spaces and reveal a bit about them through the objects, light, and compositions I find them in. Sometimes I make self-portraits, too. I am trained in traditional figure drawing and work most often in soft pastel, but I am a firm believer in learning new processes--the monotypes here are examples of this. fiberglass and resin 14.5 x 8.25 x 8.375" Vibrant Unity is inspired by the relationship that connects 2 souls who share a common path in life. Together they form a whole, It is an allegory to life in which groups of people working for a common goal project beauty, integrity and value each other. glazed terracotta 15 x 11 x 9" Faith that nature will always rebound after devastation is my inspiration. Limestone 19 x 12 x 6" My sculpting is done as direct carving in stone -- meaning that the work is not meticulously preplanned, but proceeds as a collaboration between the artist and the medium. The road, that they are taking is foggy and radiant, to maintain a mystical experience. This artwork is one of a kind. Made with high-quality professional oil paint on a gallery wrapped canvas. Stone 22 x 12 x 8"I always had a love for creating sculptures out of alabaster stone. I worked with direct carving, finding inspiration in the coloration and the flow of the stone itself. My sculptures reveal the female form conveying a sense of movement with the subtle details of flowing fabric. My visions emerge from the stone as I delve deeper into its core and only truly know what will appear with the final polishing. I enjoy sharing my art and insist that people touch ans caress them as they learn what can be created from within a stone.

Sculpture 14 x 9 x 7.5"
All of my sculptural work is nature-themed with a focus on the sea and florals, both abstract and moving toward realism. My inspiration for this work came from my frequent visits to a beautiful spot of land—ocean on three sides-- with the same name, that juts into the open ocean. I submitted this because it is a special example of what I believe is the magic of working with porcelain—that I can bring it to wafer thin forms while turning, twisting and lifting it into organic shapes that recall the energy of the sea.

Painting She, Bright as Yellow 16 x 16 x 2 in. 'She, Bright as Yellow' moved me to paint. From corsets, panty hose, Skims and Spanx we are so often asked to constrict, to make smaller. Working from my series of underwater works titled ‘Coming Up For Air”, the painting included in this submission reflect on the notion of breath; fighting for and finding the space to breathe in. My work is a joyful reclamation. Through provocation, humor, and strength, I examine equality and personal truths through a contemporary figurative lens. I explore the complex ways we all navigate in the spaces that surround us, and how I hope my work emboldens women to take up space. Oil All My Favorite Colors Size: 50 x 26 x 3 My submissions represent the most current work I have completed. The figurative series was intended to encompass all things about creation. The cubist quality happened rather organically while I was troubleshooting creative ways to represent parts of a figure, and the pieces that make up a whole being. These are only two examples, while some of the works not pictured are more irregular and varied shapes, rather than the hard-edged linear shapes seen here. The pallet varies as well but overall the works are a neutral with vibrant undertones. The contour lines will appear and subtly disappear. I enjoyed the thinking process behind the pieces as much as the actual creation of them. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

mixed media painting using collaged hand painted papers 22 x 22 x 2" Excited by the way colorful shapes fit together, how a line on the surface can cause movement, the surprise of embedded bits of pattern -- my work is playful and energetic. I am almost completely concerned with how the elements of art come together to make a strong composition. Sometimes compared to aerial views, puzzle pieces locked together and urban grids, in my work, these are qualities sensed rather than seen. While the result is abstract, every piece begins with a reference – a concrete memory, sensation or even a photograph of a place I have traveled. For viewers, the experience is about creativity and curiosity, moving in close to see the layers, and asking themselves “what is this?” Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

linocut 20 x 16 x 1" My prints reflect my lifetime fascination with the eternal truths and beauty found in the natural world. I find these in the grace and elegance of living forms and the majesty of scenic landscapes. I channel them into a personal visual statement. collage with acrylic and paper 18 x 18" This collage, which presents a destroyed landscape, comes from my emotional response to the devastation of human displacement. acrylic & collage on sintra panel 60 x 48 x .25" My images are primarily painted directly from life, with the subject typically casting a gaze back at the viewer. My paintings respond to themes “humanity”- my fellow women, forced migration, social justice, civil rights, natural and man-made calamities, as well as the respite of nature’s continuum. My process comes from my desire to bypass self-conscious inhibitions in the pursuit of self-expression. In 1990, I felt artistically "reborn" when I started painting with my non-dominant left hand and discovered renewed creative freedom. This, as well as using oversized brushes, gives me speed and fluidity, resulting in either as a fully representational finished painting, or the base on which to build a mixed media collage. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

This is in line with what I have always sought, the subconscious manifesting itself in the conscious execution of my work. Striping gradually evolved as a device to create a surface layer that must be penetrated to find the hidden core, the third dimension in a two dimensional work.

mixed media/sculpture 13 x 15.5 x 7.75" "The Sheilas" is a kinetic piece with original printmaking, self-portrait, found objects, and mirror (yes, one needs a little smoke or mirrors to do this work of spying and deception). The invisible women who helped spy during wartime and the Cold War could go unnoticed because who would look at a woman past her "prime"?! Lift the latch attached to the little red book at the top of the cabinet and reveal the "Universal Aunts" who can "Solve Your Problems", In doing so, that motion lifts an envelope that hides the younger distracting woman in the black and white photo and reveals the faces of the older women who are doing the important work of saving the free world.

Mila Photography Size: 7 x 10 Framed Size: 9 x 12 Seeing this young girl enjoying the holiday season even under the veil of Covid's mask caught my eye. I wondered what her smile looked like under that mask. I could see in her expression she was happy. I wondered what she will remember. Printing this with all black around her gives the feel of isolation and yet beauty and softness in her look and clothing. Photography 14 x 11" When a Noreaster hits the New England coast in winter it is usually fierce. I was watching how far the breaking waves would dare to come. Rivers of water washed through the snow fence. As the water receded, the sky brightened and left behind this wonderful reflection in the sand. I was especially focused on the broken picket, then the wavering lines and the fan like fence in the foreground standing strong against the wind and waves. I could feel the back and forth tug between the man made fence and mother nature.

sculpture 15 x 10 x 15" Albert Einstein once wrote, "Look deep into nature and you will understand everything." I have looked at nature and seen much symbolism and metaphor for what is happening in the world today. My artwork focuses on the chaos, mystery, and whimsey in nature. The whimsey is sometimes dark, sometimes not, but always points to the foibles of human nature. Nature is innately smarter than man. It has solved many problems we are grappling with. Perhaps what surrounds us is the secret to survival. Nature has the ability to evolve and adapt to change the environmental conditions. It has slowly adapted to climate change hastened by man, but will it continue to? My ever-evolving artwork has become more activist and narrative driven, and explores some of these ideas and more. Assemblage, mixed media 52 x 28 x 32"My artwork has evolved over time from colorful whimsical often sculptural pieces to something a bit darker. Telling a story is my goal and I have always been interested in irony and pointing out the foibles of humans going way back to my discovery of Medieval Flemish artists Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegal. I believe travel to other countries, particularly third world countries opened my eyes to conditions in the world. It took a number of years for my art and activism to merge, but my observation of nature and the nature of the human condition remain. My artwork now has a focus on environmental and climate issues. The process has become a cathartic experience for me and hopefully gives the viewer a different perspective.

Painting Tangled Up in Blue 20 x 20 x 1.5 in. I have a deep connection to the natural world that I see through the eyes of an artist. My paintings capture a moment or memory of wonder, joy, and beauty, something special that caught my eye. Paintings are inspired by the diverse colors of light, atmosphere, and nature in the coastal landscape where I live. I look for what is unique to convey a sense of place. Although often evoked by a fleeting moment, I translate in paint to transcend time. Brushstrokes over glimpses of color intentionally reveal some of the painting process. photography 24 x 18" In this photograph my granddaughter Georgina looks transfixed out to sea. She lives with Rett syndrome a rare genetic neurological disorder that affects the way the brain develops. She is nonverbal. I do know by her calmness at the shore that she feels a sense of peace and wonder here. I want to share that with her and with you.

oil on Arches oil paper, mounted on stretched canvas 30 x 22 x 1.25" My concept of the seams of a society, as on a garment, refers to being placed at the edge, marginalized, or disenfranchised, but this can also indicate conditions that hold a people together, that bind. Each of my “Seams” works takes the viewer on a cultural journey. I want you to meet a few of my friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in places I have had the great fortune to visit or to work. I am excited to show how culture and economics shape people’s lives. I hope you can imagine the lives of the people I try to portray. I want to challenge stereotypes in the figurative and cultural depiction of people. In my current series of paintings, I explore the lives of Africans in Karatu, Tanzania, a rural town where I have lived and worked over several summers as a physician. People who work in or are served by the hospital live with the lingering effects of colonialism. They grapple with political, educational, and economic conditions that make it difficult to advance. I have been painting with oil on paper that I mount on canvas. I utilize my own handmade stamps developed from traditional Tanzanian kitenge cloth to print the backgrounds. My goal is to offer you a moment to slow your mind as you imagine the lives of others and explore with me the “Seams of Societies”. Mixed Media 12 x 12 in. My art reflects and represents current events in performing arts and politics. People in the news inspire me, their movement, their expression, their passion for change. There is an emotional part of me in every painting. I am currently represented by Saphira & Ventura Gallery. Most recently, my painting "Doja Cat" was part of the Empower Her Art Forum, a multinational exhibition dedicated to raising women’s voices and the empowering ethos of art, at The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, Egypt.

pastel 12 x 9" There are two ways I approach my paintings. With abstract paintings, I start with no plan. I start with mark making, texture and/or paints, inks, etc. and let my intuition guide me. I may use acrylic, oil, ink, watercolor, pastel, colored pencil, or all, along with many materials I’ve collected to add texture. I love this approach because it is so freeing. I love the play of bright colors against neutrals, dark against light, texture against smooth. I may end up with a painting I like or I may not. If not, I keep working and adding layers/scraping away until I do. Painting like this sometimes seems to be about solving problems, using my technical skills, letting my intuition guide me. With abstracts, I'm usually inspired by a strong emotion I'm feeling. The visual has more of an impact in expression than words do. The mind is too involved with words, but with visuals, so many senses and subconscious feelings come into play. I paint landscapes by planning a scene that captures; playing with different color schemes that best express what I see, doing sketches to determine the best layout and composition. The painting may or may not follow the course I planned. I get excited about the contrast between shadows and light coming from behind, or the surprising amount of color in an ocean wave, or the moodiness of a sky. Acrylic 13 x 13" I seek to express the intangible experience of spirit. It is the awareness of the big picture. It is about the meaning of life and connection to self and others. I am exploring and expressing an inner experience through abstract images. I paint images that feel solid and spacious which is how I feel when I am experiencing “presence”. I have always noticed the subtleties of life whether it was observing beauty in nature or man-made, overcoming difficult challenges, and the complexities of the human experience. I process these experiences through painting.

I Wonder... Pastel Size: 9 x 9 - I’m primarily a portrait artist as I find nothing more visually compelling, more inspiring, than the human face and figure. Much of my work is done through Zoom, which gives me the opportunity to paint people who can be anywhere. My usual chosen medium is soft pastels. - I was excited to paint the renowned actor Alfre Woodard at a Zoom session hosted by an artist who knew her. Starting with a pastel pencil sketch, I then used a yellow pastel pencil to indicate every place the light touched Alfre’s face and hair. Knowing the location of the lightest spots remained important when applying multiple layers of pastel pencil and soft pastel. I loved painting her beautiful hair, using many layers of alternating warm and cool colors. - I Wonder… is a pastel portrait of a model I’ve painted many times – I hoped to capture her intriguing expression as she appeared to be deep in thought. I used a similar process for this as for the Woodard portrait: after the initial sketch and yellow highlights, I applied multiple layers of pastel pencil and soft pastel to build up the image and convey a mood of quietness. - The model for Graceful is a dancer whose quick poses demonstrate her love of dance. These two simple, timed ink and watercolor sketches express my delight in her lovely movement. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylics on mixed media paper mounted to wooden cradle 7 x 7 1.25" Abstract art for me is a chance to invoke a wild, primal and unconventional style of expression full of color. I start each work with no real direction or plan and as the paint hits the canvas the story comes to life. Whether that story comes from a life experience or something affecting the world today, each work will become a window into a narrative once completed. My wish for whomever glances upon my art is to temporarily leave the conventional and glance into a gateway of a vibrant story.

acrylic paint, gold & copper leaves 24 x 24 x 1.5" Heavy Metal to me is a telling of who I used to be as an artist, and who I have become. Beginning over a decade ago with art deco and steampunk designs. Evolving now into my own personal style of maximalist abstract expressionist works. I used to be overly concerned about perfection, and fine lines, where now I can embrace an unfinished, rustic background. There is perfection in imperfection. fiber art 12 x 12" The muscle memory of sewing is guided by recollections, stringing the grit and tooth of an abduction, the furrows of seams and seeming, of life stories fought out, patched out before paint would dry, better rather knit, pounded out in coarse intermingling of fibers, torn out and restitched and needle felted, a forgiving medium where every loop can be redone and undone, tacked and basted anew. Each embroidery, created from an original figure drawing is transformed into needlepoint, a quilt of pores, threaded with twenty or more colors, bounded and knotted with each physical perforation, a performative puncture onto self-healing felt. embroidery and felting 13 x 10" This is one of a series called “Ariadne Slept Here” showing Ariadne in current locales, a spinner who can help us escape the modern Minotaurs. Bonnie MacAllister renders in figurative embroidery, handspun threads, globally sourced farm wools and fibers, and recycled textiles. The language of textiles is also that of connection, threading together identity, history, biology, and personal experience. My portraits on handmade felt are created from an original figure drawing, transformed into needlepoint, bounded and knotted with each physical perforation, a gesture of self-healing, promoting mindfulness.

Pastel 14 x 13 in. 'At the Met' is a representational depiction in pastel of a group of young adults taking a break from viewing the masterpieces surrounding them. I was particularly struck by the beauty of the far right girl's red hair and how it contrasted with the cool hues of her surroundings - in addition, the dynamics of the four youths resting on the bench seemed to encapsulate an iconic tourist experience AT the MET and motivated me to want to paint this scene.
