  • Blue Buick oil on canvas
    Size of Piece: 20 x 24 x 1
I paint with enthusiasm for color, strong imagery in my work. Lately, I have been painting cars because I find that their sculptural shapes and gleaming surfaces are irresistible. The reflections in those surfaces always call to me, so I capture the image and paint it. I generally make the car the star of my painting but I need to keep it in context so I create as much or as little of the surrounding scene as suits me.

  • Remnant of the Past II
    intaglio
    11.25 x 7.5
Remnants of the Past is a series rooted in historical fragments, where photo etching becomes a vessel for memory and quiet testimony. Using archival imagery as a guide, I rework moments from the past that might otherwise fade into obscurity. Figures appear suspended in time, rendered in sepia tones and softened edges, evoking the way history lingers not as a fixed record but as an emotional residue. The recurring train setting functions as both a literal and symbolic passage. It speaks to movement, migration, labor, and the unseen lives that sustained systems yet remained uncelebrated. This imagery was inspired by photographs I took of the historic Skunk Train, itself a remnant of a bygone era. Its weathered presence, worn surfaces, and lingering stillness became a visual and emotional catalyst for the series. Uniformed bodies, bowed heads, and intimate gestures suggest dignity carried under the weight of routine and restraint. These are not heroic poses, but honest ones. Through the etching process, I embrace texture, erosion, and tonal restraint, allowing marks to echo the wear of time itself. Each image functions as a visual remnant, inviting viewers to slow down and witness the humanity embedded within everyday historical moments. This series is an act of honoring. It asks us to sit with what remains, to acknowledge those who came before, and to recognize how their presence continues to shape our collective now.

  • Seek
    Watercolor and Gouache on Paper
    5 x 7
This monochromatic piece came at a moment of low inspiration. I had been facing personal challenges that had me seeking solace in my paintbrush, but left me staring at blank pages. Somehow, I pushed myself to just begin and wound up staring into these soulful eyes. I sought a creative outlet and created a child who seemed to be seeking something of their own. Even still, I wonder what that is.

  • Farewell party
    acrylic on canvas
    12 x 12

  • Ode to Untamed Women oil 24 x 24 Using Women's Suffrage sheet music in the National Archives and the colors of the movement (yellow, purple, white), this piece brings the past struggles and present challenges together with words and imagery. The sepia yellow sashes are filled with the chants and songs of the past, while the central bright yellow sash is inscribed with all of the worst thoughts and statements made about women today. The lighted focal box contains a simple message supported by the actions of the past: You Will Not Break Us, We Will Prevail. This lighted box includes a white extension cord and must be plugged in to light. Dandelions represent grit, perseverance, and finding ways to grow and survive even in the most unfavorable environments. Women of today can take hope and inspiration from our foremothers, despite all of the vile anti-feminist ideas bombarding us today. We will prevail. • Color Explosion
    powder coated aluminum
    Size of Piece: 9 x 10 x 10
Monet's Flowers, Frank Gherry's Architecture and a passion for the outdoors motivates me to create flowers in an array of sizes and stiles, set on abstract sinuous virtual waves that transport the observer to dream, relax and imagine being uplifted to a place of serenity and joy. I started creating aluminum flowers which when applying a blow torch transformed the aluminum into golden patinas and perforations, and melted petals in an organic way. Incurring into color I powder coat them and explore different color combinations. Trial and error keeps my curiosity and creativity alive. • Vanguard archival pigment print on canson edition etching rag 22 x 17 Throughout history there have always been women who pushed back against stifling cultural constraints. These photos are my attempt to portray strong and powerful women as secure in their bodies and minds. In these images I endeavor to show my subjects as full and complex beings and honor their dedication and achievements in a manner that does not trivialize, sexualize or demean. It is my hope that you as viewers instead of punishing those who challenge feminine stereotypes will be champions of their strength. • Honoring the American West
    found Objects, decorated boot, collage
    16 x 16 x 2
This piece pays tribute to the spirit, resilience, and layered histories of the American West. The weathered boot, adorned with beads, feathers, and the enduring symbol of the bison skull, reflects the blending of cultures, traditions, and landscapes that shaped the region. This work invites viewers to honor the legacy of the West: rugged, spiritual, and forever rooted in the rhythm of the earth and sky. • Hands On
acrylic and paper on canvas board
    14 x 11
There is a tension between the nonchalant act of a womxn skinning an apple, the red crescents of apple skin falling towards a fish, a once living creature, being sliced open seemingly like a sacrifice upon an altar. A womxn's hand appears to hesitate near the fish as though an attempt at saving it was unsuccessful. The black and white figure conflicts with the bright red apple skins falling from her knife. Red represents both the fruit and the life force. The iconographic use of gold implies a spiritual aspect to the piece as do the hands with palm reading diagrams indicating that fate is unyielding.

  • On the Dock
    printmaking
    27 x 21
The Rowing Prints are a series of photo screenprints created to explore the sport of crew from the point of view of a rower and coach. They are derived from normal mundane images of regular practice sessions, mostly on the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie. The photos are then manipulated to create screenprints, and hand colored on the screen itself. When printed with a sheer black ink, I create images that are at once both realistic and nostalgic, which is the aligned with the experience of rowers who ply the waters of the historic Hudson River rowing venue at Poughkeepsie today.

  • Thalamian Rower on the Trireme Olympias printmaking 14 x 11 framed size: 22 x 18 Thalamian Rower on the Trireme “Olympias” is a self-portrait as a rower on the replica of an ancient Greek trireme, which I rowed as a member of the 200 person crew for an archaeological experiment in 1988 in the Aegean Sea. The thalamian rowers were mostly women for this project due to our smaller stature, having to fit on the lowest level however we were strong enough to wield the 40lb oars for periods of 20-30 minutes. The painting reflects the strength and resilience inherent in the female journey.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Fill in the Blank watercolor 24 x 24 I have embraced an ancient art form and through the depiction of contemporary subject matter I have made it my own while respecting its traditions. My work focuses on people of the streets. I don’t intrude on their lives, I don’t photograph them, nor do I sketch them, when I paint them, something about their energy, their chi, has locked into my minds’ eye and it comes out my brush. Sumi-e, works the soft contemplative tones of sumi ink with the unique construction of handmade paper and eastern watercolors, creating an image that provides a space for the viewer to reflect. What my work “says” is not fixed, it is left open to the sensibility of each person that stands before it. In this way my work resonates with the spirit of sumi-e, not by imitating tradition, but by capturing a sense of life’s impermanence, fragility and hope. • Thoughts Nebula mixed media on wood panel Size of Piece: 12 x 12 x 2 Thoughts Nebula embodies the lunar archetype — the reflective, cyclical force that has guided human timekeeping since the first calendars aligned women’s bodies with the moon. Through my practice of Temporal Psychoexpressionism, I build each piece stroke by stroke, counting time as both meditation and record. Fresco-like textures, watercolor, and gold accents create a portal for resonance: the moon here is not astronomical but archetypal, a luminous portrait of intuition, reflection, and eternal cycles. • She Moves in Blue oil on gallery wrapped canvas
    36 x 36
My series ‘Coming up for Air’, marks the time between my former life and my current one as an artist. When I left my career, there was a long moment between deciding to, and leaving. It was glorious knowing a new world was coming but I was unsure of what that actually meant. I simply knew that it felt like I could finally breathe. That sensation, the liminal space between letting go and moving forward, is always the moment in ‘Coming Up for Air’. I return to the idea over and over, painting moments of suspension and relief. ‘She Moves in Blue’ is the newest in the series. The surface light feels soft, highlighting that idea of being held in water. The blue-on-blue palette creates subtle movement, reminding me just because something seems still doesn’t mean the current isn’t moving. • Oil All My Favorite Colors Size: 50 x 26 x 3 My submissions represent the most current work I have completed. The figurative series was intended to encompass all things about creation. The cubist quality happened rather organically while I was troubleshooting creative ways to represent parts of a figure, and the pieces that make up a whole being. These are only two examples, while some of the works not pictured are more irregular and varied shapes, rather than the hard-edged linear shapes seen here. The pallet varies as well but overall the works are a neutral with vibrant undertones. The contour lines will appear and subtly disappear. I enjoyed the thinking process behind the pieces as much as the actual creation of them. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • Where the Page Meets the Pacific
    oil on panel
    11 x 14
This painting was inspired by the years I spent living in California. Living near the ocean taught me to watch closely: the way light dissolves into water at dusk, how fog softens the edges of a city, and how waves carry stories even when no one is listening. These memories surface throughout my art, not as literal depictions, but as subtle washes of color and atmosphere inspired by the places I inhabited and the landscapes beyond them. printmaking

I was creating a demo for my printmaking students on chine collé and decided to keep going on this tangent in my own practice. It can be very simple, but effective, as seen here in the monkey's face. Adding a piece of paper for a more detailed section and extending the paper to create a hard hat over the top of his head eliminated the need to carve another block, and made his face stand out from his body. Also, deciding to keep the space behind his face white, but include typeface in the hat area is a decision to consider when making choices for chine collé materials. The AP card was a real document that I added a paw print and signature to, and the camera was a Xerox collaged on, as well. A lesson for my students that I enjoyed learning from, too.

  • Poppy in the Seed watercolor 20 x 16 I live in Colorado, a state the holds its beauty in every season. When Spring comes around, I look forward to my poppies exploding with color beneath my peach trees. This brilliant poppy caught my eye as the leaves casted shade from the morning sun. I started drawing it plein air and finished with watercolor in my studio. My intent with this piece is to invite contemplation through its interplay of light and shadow, evoking emotions tied to nature and tranquility. Blurring the background enhanced the poppy's prominence, allowing it to stand out as a focal point. This artwork can be seen as a metaphor for resilience and beauty in the midst of uncertainty, reflecting my emotional connection to nature. • Shades of Gray oil on linen canvas
    12 x 12
It is a common practice to create artwork through tone by manipulating the lightness or darkness of colors and shades to create form, depth, and atmosphere. When creating this artwork, I was focusing more on tones than color and decided to only use only the shades of gray to define the horses. By adjusting the contrast between light and dark areas, I believed I could control the viewer's emotional response, guiding the eye to focal points, and establishing a sense of realism or drama. • oil on canvas 22 x 28 x 1.5"
On a trip to France in 2005, I was inspired by the idyllic landscape and skies to begin my Trees Leaving series. I was thinking about the threat we have become to our natural environment and remembering Magritte’s floating men in bowler hats. After the pandemic hit, I continued the series with another twist. Rather than one or lots of trees leaving, chunks of isolated areas lifted into the sky. Autumn Passing is one of these pieces. I have found it deeply gratifying to keep this series evolving with ever expanding meaning.

  • The Quiet Season
    oil on cradled panel
    Size of Piece: 24 x 24 x 2
A view of modest rental cottages on the North Truro coast of Cape Cod, shuttered in Autumn. In the off-season, visitors are more able to explore the glorious shorelines of the Cape. Sadly, only 12% of the 1,400 miles of Massachusetts coastline is accessible to the public, or 170 miles. This is due to an ordinance from 1647 which extends the private property boundary to the low tide line. The natural beauty and serenity of our coasts should be much more accessible to all.

  • Between Breaths
    watercolor on paper
    10 x 14
Between Breaths grew out of my interest in moments of pause within the landscape — those brief intervals where light, air, and space seem to suspend movement rather than describe a specific place. I was drawn less to depicting a recognizable scene and more to capturing a felt experience of stillness and renewal. I work in watercolor with an emphasis on layering transparent washes and allowing edges to soften or dissolve. Rather than correcting or tightening every passage, I let the painting develop through controlled wet-in-wet areas and intuitive color shifts, responding to what emerges on the paper. The goal is to create a sense of quiet immersion, where the viewer can linger in a moment that feels both grounded and fleeting.

  • Acrylic on Canvas Hope Springs Size: 48 x 48 x 3 Birds began to appear in my work at the start of the Pandemic. The beginning of the bird fashionistas - little characters that emulate the personalities of the people around me: They are fun to make and are a constant reminder of what is important in my life. When someone asks me “What happened to you during the pandemic?” I think “Well, a lot,” but the constant reminder of life came from looking through the living room window, watching a cascade of different types of birds vying for their spot at the bird feeder. Over and over and over! So many hours spent on the sofa just watching them and being thankful for being alive. While sitting on that sofa I did draw a LOT in my journal book. I wrote about the places I’ve been to, the people I’ve been with, meanings of the icons and images I was incorporating in my work. When we all began to venture out of our houses, I was more mindful of the journaling process and drawing the “memories” of place. The images in the journal book are the genesis of this work. • Maiores 1 watercolor 30 x 22 Framed Size: 34 x 25 I like to make connections between things I understand and things I don’t. For the show “She the People”, I chose to make paintings about the connection between the seven women heroes of the Old Testament and early suffragettes. Didn’t these heroes lay the foundation for how the suffragettes thought about women’s roles in society? I began the paintings with layers of gold, scarlet, indigo, and purple, the colors used to make the veils for the ancient tabernacle in Jerusalem and the ephod, a special garment worn by the high priest. Then I added the names. What emerged were Maiores 1 and 2 (Maiores is Latin for forebears.) celebrating Sarah, Miriam, Devorah, Hannah, Abigail, Huldah, and Esther. • Midnight Ride Midnight Ride was inspired by the black horse I grew up with, whose presence and spirit left a lasting impression on me. She was strong, intuitive, and deeply expressive, and this monoprint grew out of my desire to capture not a literal portrait, but the feeling of being with her—the quiet intensity, movement, and emotional connection we shared. I approached the image through mood and atmosphere, using expressive mark-making and layered textures to evoke memory rather than description. Working with oil paint and a variety of tools, I allowed the surface to build intuitively, letting the physical process guide the emergence of form and emotion. The resulting print is both a tribute and an exploration of how memory, gesture, and material can hold presence long after the moment has passed.

This was painted on-site at Wave Hill Gardens. I was inspired by the depth of the palm layers in the Brazilian garden. The different sizes of the palms, whether it be wide, tall, or arching with diagonal stems interjecting motion, were fun to contrast with each other with abstract strokes and color.

This portrait projects the forces that lie beneath what we observe on the surface, revealing power, conviction, and role-play emanating from within. colored pencil on paper
Size of Piece: 13 x 13 Inspired by Mandalas. First encountered in China in 1995 while a delegate at the 4th World Conference for Women. My fascination with them brought introspection and a need to create a new world mandala to explore our current political situation. The process is meditative, allowing me to play creatively with humor and pathos. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • Featherscape colored pencil on paper 20 x 30 This piece entitled Featherscape emerged in a sudden rush of instinct, faster than I normally plan a composition. My Taino ancestry on my Puerto Rican side has always given me a deep pull toward Indigenous traditions, especially the spiritual relationship between ceremony, land, and sky. A family friend once gifted me an Indian headdress, and the symbolism of that offering stayed with me. When I created this piece, everything came together with an almost magical clarity. The feathers, the desert light, and the woven forms appeared as one vision. They reflect ancestral memory and the spiritual presence that moves through Pacific and Southwestern Native cultures. Seeing Land After a Long Journey is inspired by my many crossings of oceans where no land is seen for many days. There is a special feeling of excitement when experiencing the first signs of land such as twigs, birds and the distant change in the horizon. With each crossing, I was reminded about explorers like Columbus and his crew who voyaged into the unknow and had sense of excitement and relief too when they saw the first signs of land.

    printmaking
    12 x 12
This summer I started making acetate stencils in an attempt to loosen up, and take a break from oil painting. I cut them freehand with a scissor, and without drawing a design first. It was fun exercise, spontaneous and surprising. I used these stencils for a series of acrylic monoprints, such as this one. When I look at them, I I can see the strong visual influence of botanicals and North African art, both of which dominate my summer surroundings.

Paper, Plaster, Gouache 3D Puppets on Silkscreen background
    12 x 11
I'm a fan of the Divine Comedy and have Florentine ancestry. When Beatrice died, Dante realized "only through love for his Beatrice would he be able to reach the divine." I thought if I, as an artist, could resurrect their relationship to the present time, I would place them cosily side-by-side on a sofa watching TV. Beatrice chooses the film. Dante holds the remote.

  • Figurines for Marija Gimbutas stains and metallic paint on cartapesta 8.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 If I hadn't been an artist I would have been an archeologist. The woman I would have bowed to and chased on every dig was Gimbutas. Marija Gimbutas was archaeologist and anthropologist known for her research into the Neolithic and Bronze Age cultures. She theorized that the arrival of the Kurgs—the original Proto-Indo-Europeans-- shows how cultures of domination and patriarchy took over the Old European civilization which was centered around the worship of the Earth, The Great Goddess. To make the figurines, I first made small clay sculptures and wrapped them in paper, like 'mummies.' When paper and hardening agents dried, I pulled out the clay sculpture, repaired the wound, and then painted neolithic patterns, similar to the patterns Gimbutas found on pottery from her digs in Eastern Europe, on the figurines. • Our Desert Skin
    printmaking
    30 x 22
My skin monotypes are realized “coats of skin” that are initially molded over bodies of human collaborators and then flattened under a press. The flattened forms become templates that communicate skin patterns and uniqueness. I made them because from birth to death every human weaves a thread around herself-- a story, a shield, a chronicle of injury, trauma, vibration and pain as well as the belief of the existence of a spiritual entity, or astral soul, living within.

  • R.B.J:Justice stains, foils, lashes, stitching, Elizabethan ruffle on cartapesta 12 x 7 x 6 During the COVID-19 pandemic I made masks--not for health protective reasons or to distribute to health care workers but to record what was happening during that regime changing era. In September 2020, our honorable Supreme Court justice Ruth Baden Ginsburg died. Like many women and men, I looked up to her and admired her accomplishments, particularly appreciating her advocacy for gender equality and women's rights, and for encouraging women to speak up about their experiences with sexual harassment. I honored her life with a cool-blue mask, stitched on her eyeglasses so she could continue to look over us and our lives, and amplified her signature collar with an Elizabethan ruffle. The mask is part of my "The Future Has an Ancient Face" series of 24 masks that chronicle political, cultural and medical events during the 2 years of the 2020-2022 pandemic. • Dance of the Lily Pads Color Pencil on Drafting Film Size of Piece: 23 x 30 Realism is the style that I have embraced for my work. Perhaps the truth is that it embraced me, flowing naturally from my hand, with inspiration coming from the world around me. Colored pencil is the medium I have chosen for most of my work. What started as a lifestyle choice (pencils are clean and easily transportable from primary residence to lake house) became an artistic choice. I’m a control freak - free and loose is NOT my style - so colored pencils are the perfect medium for me. Their layering and blending capabilities, the transparency of some colors, and vibrant pigments help me convey the interplay of color and light in my subject matter. At times, I use colors that are more brilliant or saturated than what I see in nature. It pleases me, and I hope it pleases the viewer. • Lupita Kneeds acrylic 24 x 18 Lupita Kneeds is another of the series inspired by Laura Esquivel's novel "Lupita also Liked to Iron". I hope this painting gives the viewer a quiet moment of contemplation. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Trees Die Standing

    acrylic on canvas

    Size of Piece: 14 x 14

    Trees Die Standing

This painting is inspired from a favorite Spanish play I read by Alejandro Cosana called “Los Árboles Mueren de Pie” translated it means Trees Die Standing. The story is about a family trying to prevent their elderly matriarch from hearing tragic news for fear it might kill her. She finally hears the news and continues strong taking care of the family. She says she is dead inside, but still standing, like a tree dies standing up.

“Do not see me fall. Dead inside, but standing tall. Like a tree.”

It reminds me of women who are nurturing caregivers of children and elderly, who need to show strength by standing strong, despite their grief.

  • Activated Pocket Idols
    sculpture
    2 x 6 x 2
With this project, I created a hand-held idol form to explore the relationship between physical touch and spiritual connection through material manifestation. Each idol will hold the same conceptual meaning, no matter materials or processes used. The historical idea of idols being vessels that project or contain something intangible but with a more personal significance. I wanted to create an object that might offer an immediacy in comfort by being on their person. If it is believed to hold this comfort in its physical form and activated all the personal would have to do is touch it for reassurance. The form I created to be a maternal-like roundness and gentle form that abstracts figure into just a head and body. A crucial element that I think promotes the pocketed ability of the idol is the nail or screw at the center: the idol is not activated until the owner drives a nail or screw personally into their idol. Making this physical connection and experience the idol is then able to release and fulfill what it embodies.

  • Po Paia
clay, wood, acrylic, bone, twine, enamel
    10 x 6
As an artist, my work often explores themes of life, death, and the intersection of nature and humanity. In my latest piece, a mixed media creation that combines clay, wood, acrylic, bone, twine, and enamel, I aim to evoke a sense of contemplation and connection to ancient cultural practices and their poignant representations of the afterlife. The simple face, eyes closed in serene reflection, invites viewers to ponder the quiet stillness that accompanies the passage from life to death. Adorning the forehead is a catfish skull, a symbol of resilience and adaptation in the natural world, while the vertebrae from a large bird protrude from the chin. This juxtaposition emphasizes the blend of life forms and the continuous cycle of existence, suggesting a dialogue between the earthly and the ethereal. Framing the face is twine, which serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of all beings and the bonds that tie them together. This piece is not just a representation of a face but a meditation on the narratives we share and the remnants we leave behind. Through this work, I invite the audience to engage with the themes of identity, memory, and transformation that resonate across cultures and time.

  • Stretched on Your Grave

    ceramic, acrylic, graphite, enamel

    Size of Piece: 13.5 x 10 x 5.5

“Stretched on Your Grave” is an exploration of grief. While grief is often portrayed as somber and subdued, it can also be vivid, raw, and full of intensity. Strong emotion comes with strong color.

The figure’s raised arm may be a gesture of defense, of shelter, or of reaching—perhaps toward something lost, or something yet to come. Her upward gaze suggests both longing and focus.

Inscribed within the work are three poems that illuminate the many shades of mourning—sorrow, love, memory, and resilience:

    “Funeral Blues” by W.H. Auden,

“In Blackwater Woods” by Mary Oliver,

and “For Grief” by John O’Donohue.

  • No Cuckoos Here
    bronze/wood sculpture
    9 x 9 x 10
Birds are frequently the inspiriation for my work. In this piece I was thinking about the cuckoo's habit of depositing their eggs in the nests of other birds. Considering the size ratio of wrens and cuckoos a wren would find it relatively easy to spot an intruder in her nest. I often use beautifully turned wood for my bases and this exceptional Gamble Oak bowl is perfect for this piece.

  • Melly's Way acrylic 36 x 24 framed size: 40 x 28 Melly's Way is a very personal piece for me. Melly is short for Meldgonde, my mother. The last three years of her life she suffered from dementia and I took care of her. The painting has a two fold meaning, it both describes her temperament of all the years I knew her even when she was sane and fully functioning and her years of decline. The painting also captures both her inner turmoil and chaos as well as mine. We see a woman leaving her home in a frightful storm with her purse and her scarf, she wanders pretty far away and the scarf lifts from her head into the wind. The expression of bewilderment and distress is not coming from the dark storm around her but rather from the loss of that piece of cloth. To me, this was also a moment that encapsulated all the craziness we felt around her whether good or bad or whether in youth or old age. Though I did not know it at the time the work was cathartic for me. In addition, the theme of many of my works are about global climatic change and the danger it poses for us all. I included that theme as well as my own personal feelings. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • The Enchanted Forest
    oil on panel
    7 x 5
Most of my work is fantasy or Magic realism and one of the continuing themes in my works have been paths, whether its paths along forests or mountains. It is one of my metaphors for life in general. In addition, this piece was done in the grisaille method of oil painting which I love to do. It is the most effective method of conveying depth and atmosphere for me.

  • The Path Taken
    photography on metal
    10 x 15
While out for a walk, I was mesmerized by the play of light and shadows on this pathway. I lingered in this light, not wanting to move for the fear of it changing. I set up my tripod and began to work on the best angle to capture this beautiful light show. I chose to print it on metal to maintain the shine of the mist on the trees.

  • Winter Walk
    oil on panel
    12 x 12
My work is rooted in direct observation and an interest in subtle shifts of light and temperature within the landscape. In Winter Walk, the primary focus is the contrast between the cool, blue-toned planes of snow and the muted yellow-ochre warmth of the distant trees. These temperature relationships create depth and guide the viewer’s eye through the composition. I aim to suggest form rather than describe it fully, allowing atmosphere and color relationships to carry the painting. The simplified handling of the trees and snow supports a sense of quiet and clarity, inviting the viewer to engage with the scene without distraction. Through restraint and observation, I seek to convey the stillness of a winter landscape.

Since childhood, I have had vivid dreams, movie-like visits to places and with figures that tell me of things to come, good and bad together. Who or what shares this is not clear - perhaps it is just the by-product of creativity. Colorful swirls present the living world, and the angelic figure brings hope and joy.

  • Risk Ahead collage with acrylic on Bristol board 13 x 10 framed size: 20 x 16 Alice Andrews Higbee Mathis (1695 – 1784), widow, became the wife of John “The Great Mathis”, a land developer in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey in 1716. A Quaker of the Tuckerton area, she is recorded as being dark-haired and dark-complexed, strong-minded, possessing unusual business talents, and was reportedly a greater land speculator than her husband. She was fairly educated and wrote a good hand. In this mixed-media monotype, she is surrounded by the colors of war – the stripes of the flag of the colonies, the blood of the families, her hands the color of lost soldiers, her face the determined life force of the Revolution. John and Alice loaned money to the struggle for freedom and were repaid in Continental paper, which proved worthless. They rallied and continued to prosper, leaving a legacy of freedom and lands to their heirs. She was my 6th great-grandmother, and this likeness is based on a mid 1800s tintype of her great-great-granddaughter Martha Mathis, my 2nd great -grandmother. • Petroglyph Figures
    acrylic
Size of Piece: 21 x 27 x 1 Ancient peoples and their activities fascinate me. Using natural elements to record important events in their lives, they carved their stories onto beautiful rock faces, the canvases of the ancients. These hillside Hawaiian petroglyph figures inspired me to paint the rock formations and the dynamic figures, capturing the greys of the stones and the darkness of the stained figures. I try and guess what the stories are telling us. Were they actual events, dreams of things past, or dreams of things to come? • Spirit Guide
acrylic, texture paste, image transfer, & paper collage
Size of Piece: 16 x 16 My narrative mixed media pieces are an intuitive blend of acrylic paint, handmade paper and fabric that give life to my contemporary concepts. Each painting starts with an idea that takes many compositional and decorative turns before I call it complete. The result is an intricate tapestry of visual elements that invites my viewers to explore the many layers of textural detail. In my work, I explore memories and dreams as a way to highlight ideas about the interdependence of humanity and nature. It also reflects life’s changes and our resilience in navigating the ups and downs. I believe we create balance and harmony by being sensitive to our environment and each other. • Now What? Acrylic and Ink with Found Photograph Size of Piece: 10 x 10 x 1 This collage centers on unknown characters in a drama captured in a found photograph from the mid-1900s. As I extend the environment of the photo, I devise dialogue in my head and offer a context, giving the individuals a voice. My objective is not merely to fabricate a story but to invite others to join me in reflecting on our own lives, the journeys we have taken, and the ones we have managed to avoid. • Dance 02
    printmaking
    22 x 30
Solarplate Etching printmaking technique was the medium used to create this piece. Through repetition and mirroring of a quick drawing depicting a dancing figure, the intention was to portray a movement, a dance. Women dancing in a circle, joyfully supporting each other, celebrating life. I utilized thread, a material traditionally used by women to mend or embroider, to emphasize the connections between the dancers.

  • Interference Field
    digital art
    13 x 10
“Interference Field” explores perception as a dynamic system shaped by repetition, disruption, and visual density. Layered bands and wave-like forms—reminiscent of fingerprint ridges—interact to produce moiré effects, creating moments of alignment and distortion that reference optical and signal interference phenomena. As these elements overlap, the eye oscillates between order and instability. Constructed through iterative digital processes, repetition establishes structure while subtle interruptions introduce tension and movement across the surface. The work invites sustained looking, encouraging viewers to slow down and recalibrate perception. In doing so, “Interference Field” frames seeing as an active process—one that emerges through engagement rather than resolution.
