For 137 years, the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) has been driven by the dedication of its volunteers. NAWA’s mission to educate, empower, and showcase women artists has thrived thanks to these committed individuals. Each year, NAWA honors the women who have generously contributed their time to advance this mission.
While many members provide their expertise, there are those who dedicate a significant portion of their time and energy. NAWA celebrates these exceptional volunteers, known as Art Angels, with an annual exhibition showcasing their work. The organization relies on the kindness, generosity, goodwill, and expertise of its volunteers, who have been the backbone of NAWA’s growth and expansion since its founding in 1889.

Looking Back photograph 11 x 14 Looking Back (photography) A friend invites me to her garden to photograph anytime I wish. As a wildlife photographer, I enjoy watching and photographing the mallards in her cypress pond. The ducks are quite tame and my presence doesn't bother them. Mallards have more than 11,000 feathers, and when this male mallard struck a pose, I was able to capture many of those feathers, including his distinctive curled tail feathers. The mallard's flexible neck anatomy allows it to rotate its head 180 degrees. When I took this photo, the mallard turned his head to look back over his body, which created a more unique photo. It's 2026 and the "Rights of Women" is still a topic of debate and a political mechanism. Warmth of the Sun acrylic 24 x 24 My husband and I walk together each morning for three miles. After several days of very cold weather, we had a day where the sun was bright and warm. Yankee Pond photograph 15 x 19 I have been doing a portfolio, studying this pond, for over 15 years. I shoot it all times of the day, in rain and snow storms, in every season, depending on what is is revealing on a particular day. It is a beautiful place, with an active beaver’s den, and changing seasonal growth. There are sunny days, ominous days, stormy days etc. The pond never disappoints me, Having a house upstate for many years has revived my interest in all things having to do with nature; and nature does not disappoint. Arthritic pain in my hands ended my ability to finish a screenplay I had spent two years writing about my lifelong journey with my face. After thirty years helping women heal the emotional pain surrounding their appearance, I had hoped to tell that story on the silver screen. Losing the ability to type was devastating. Leaning stoneware 15 x 7 x 9 The piece started as a block of clay. The model took the stand and I asked her to take different poises. We settled on a sitting poise that could be held for a length of time. Once the basic poise was set in clay then I could begin to twist and lean and contort the figure into what I wanted. Edisto Seagulls acrylic 9.5 x 13 The winter at Edisto Beach presented these three breakfast club members searching the beach for a morsel. The blues and greys of the surf, sand, and black and white of the birds felt peaceful in the cold morning air. I used a limited palette to recreate the harshness of the weather softened by the delightful birds in the surf just doing their daily routine. The somewhat misty conditions blended the sky and water, darkening the tidal pools and piles of sand left from the receding tide. At times in winter, it is very isolated and private on this stretch of beach resort in SC. I bring the memory home to paint. Ice on the Ground, Boston watercolor 16 x 16 When I'm not able to travel to cold places, I feel lucky that I live in a part of the country that has a very good cold season. During my early morning walks, I take photos of the ice at my feet that has formed overnight and has caught all sorts of leaves, sticks, rocks, and other natural detritus in it. Dreaming While Awake in Havana digital 30 x 48 "Dreaming While Awake in Havana" translates the emotional landscape of Jose Marti's poem "Sueno Despierto" ("I Dream Awake"" or "Daydream") into a purely non-figurative visual experience. The work taps into the psychological weight of memory, longing and the ethereal nature of an idealized homeland. My composition relies entirely on form and texture to evoke the sensory memory of my numerous trips to Havana and experience of the crumbling built environment.
