The piece started as a block of clay. The model took the stand and I asked her to take different poises. We settled on a sitting poise that could be held for a length of time. Once the basic poise was set in clay then I could begin to twist and lean and contort the figure into what I wanted. A strong women emerged that had confidence though leaning but keeping her balance.
