  • photography 22 x 18 x 1" This photo brought home to me the importance of timing. While sitting outdoors near Madison Square, I glanced up to spot the MetLife Building casting a perfect shadow of itself on a nearby office building. Minutes earlier, or later, the sun would have shifted and the shadow would have changed. An unexpected find captured at that perfect moment!

  • Works on Paper- Charcoal on Arches Paper 22.5 x 30 in
  • charcoal on Arches paper 25 x 19.5"
In depicting individuals at different ages and life stages, I engage themes of temporal change, individual vulnerability and human mortality. As I preserve a time and moment in the subject’s evolution, I acknowledge the inevitable unstoppable sea of change we ride in life. This child gaze was riveting, both vulnerable and fierce; the drawing is another in a portrait series that honors the purest of encounters with the special little humans in my life. The difficult and satisfying challenge in my portraiture is to portray some unarmed truth and in so doing to suggest our complex humanity and shared experience.

  • Oil 12 x 8" Skies offer the challenge of describing infinitely variable light, color expression and forms that appear three dimensional but also porous, translucent or reflective. My skies series, dependent on one moment’s light, are also about temporality in nature and our lives; the ongoing metamorphosis witnessed in the clouds that mimics the unstoppable sea of change we ride in life. I find every attribute from fearsome power, stunning beauty to quiet sublimity reflected across the sky. I hope to evoke the metaphorical display of life’s fragility, to give testament to life’s volatility and emotional range, and to celebrate elusive earthly moments when condensation and weather create something so humanly resonate.

  • oil on panel 17 x 25" Portraits afford an opportunity to paint light and compelling form, as well as explore wide-ranging emotive qualities.. Each work is about what the face portrays, In painting individuals at different ages and life stages I am also engaging themes of temporal change, individual vulnerability and human mortality. Moments of strength, decency, calm or vulnerability; traces of pain, self protection, openness, or glimmers of hopefulness, pride and earnestness are lurking in these faces. I am engaging with the enigmatic. The difficult and satisfying challenge in my portraiture is to portray some truth and in so doing to suggest our complex humanity and shared experience.

  • monotype on paper (one of a kind) 28 x 24" My monotypes, like a freeze-frame, capture a moment in time. I have been making monotypes since 1979. My monotypes are essentially printed paintings, each one a one-of-a-kind piece. I use a very time-consuming method of working in layers on zinc plates with oil pastels, oil paints, lithographic crayons and hand-cut stencils, often using the ghost image left on a plate or a paint-laden stencil to launch a series. The painted plate is then heated and printed on Arches Cover or Rives BFK on an etching press. I have led numerous workshops and lectured at colleges and art centers on this remarkable medium. • oil painting on linen 48 x 75 x 2" I am a visual storyteller, a painter of women, the sea, mysterious encounters and uncommon places. In all of my work, women are the dominant elements. My goal is not to idealize them in any way, but to portray each woman’s individuality, her power, her connection to other women and to the world. Birds, especially seabirds, have long been choreographed into my work, sometimes as companions, other times as avatars of change, growth, or escape. There is a dreamlike aspect to my paintings, a surreal confluence of elements that feels very real. In my larger work, my viewpoint is often just outside the picture plane – one more step and you feel as if you can enter the narrative of the painting.

  • Oil 14 x 11"
I make paintings of women, the sea, mysterious encounters, and uncommon places. “On the Edge of the World” is from my ongoing series portraying young girls coming of age. We look deeply into these faces and bodies and revisit our own memories filtered through the lens of childhood and adolescence. My subjects are often on the cusp of change. They are contemplating their futures, preparing their imaginations - and their lives - to take flight. Within these girls lies the power to achieve their dreams.

  • oil on panel 16 x 16 x 1.5" "Soliloquy" is the 5th in a series of 16" square paintings using the coastal Pacific province of Guanacaste as its setting. Mounded isles covered in hairy, gnarly trees dot the coastline. The sky is loosely based on a photograph I took sailing into the sunset. I often reference birds in my work, and in this piece I painted flying flamingos. The flamboyance of the flamingos is echoed in the costume of the figure in the foreground. The patterns and history of harlequin costumes suit my tattooed model and this exotic landscape to a "T".

  • acrylic painting with collage 12 x 12 x .5"
This painting was inspired by hummingbirds who are frequent visitors to my back yard desert landscape. It is a acrylic multi-layered collage abstract, done in light blue-turquoise, red and black, embedded with hand printed papers, monoprints, exotic papers, papers collected from bits of everyday life, and original images. This piece was created using paper excavation, layers of paint and papers were applied and sanded through until the desired effect was achieved.

  • collage & mixed media 24 x 24 x 1.5"
This piece is inspired by waking up in the California desert on a winter's day. The colors reflect the warmth and power of the mountains and the markings suggest the constant movement and change occurring. The circles, both solid and open suggest the huge variety and surprises this special environment presents.

  • silicone, rainwater, & acrylic paints onto an indigo background 60 x 48 x 2" While exhibiting my paintings in Italy in 2018, I traveled by car to Reggio, Calabria, the home of my grandparents. I visited many museums along the way, and discovered that mermaids were prevalent in Italian lore and art. They reminded me of the Celtic selkies, and the Native American myth of Sedna. I instilled the wonder, joy, and hope I absorbed from their stories into She Harbors the Sea.

  • acrylic 20 x 16" Bold hydrangeas always attract my attention. For this painting, I was inspired by dappled late afternoon sunlight falling among hydrangea blooms. Warm colors capture the fleeting late summer sun. Already a few leaves gather at the base of the steps, suggesting the change of seasons. The iconic green striped awnings and door hark back many decades, adding a sense of timelessness to this cottage near Alexandria Bay, New York. On a whim, I added a single hydrangea peeking from the window on the left to balance the composition and suggest the owner's touch.

  • oil on canvas
    24 x 22 x 1"
The composition for this painting was inspired by the view from my campsite at Buffalo Gap Campground, part of the Dakota Prairie National Grasslands, during a road trip in September 2020. The mood and quality of the sky and sunset, though, borrowed from every sacrifice I have made in life. Whether I realized it at the time or not, each of those sacrifices involved a kind of faith. Sometimes, often much later, that faith can seem so foolish -- if not designed to deceive. However, this painting does not connote anger at that cycle, but rather peace.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • oil on canvas 18 x 24 x 1" Although the viewpoint of this painting is at a slightly elevated angle, the title alludes to the need to consider the landscape from above, looking straight down. These are eyes that look at the human viewer askew but look up at the heavens with no distortion.

  • Works on Paper 20 x 16 x .50 in. My art is inspired by the 19th-century Fontainebleau painters and their up-close sous-bois perspective. I focus on the intricate details of natural textures, colors, and diverse life in the undergrowth of Florida's native trees. My contemporary up-close viewpoint is rooted in exploring light and shadow within monotype prints, plaster sculptures, and paintings. Layers of additive and reductive color are carved with mark-making tools to create textures that vibrate between contemporary, impressionism, and abstractionism, forming an interdependent relationship with the past and present. • Monotype 36 x 24.74 x .75 in.   The forest, for me, is more than just a place. It's a sanctuary, a source of inspiration, and a canvas for my art. It's where I slow down and appreciate the gifts of nature, experience serenity, and seek healing. This deep connection to nature is the driving force behind my work. It reflects life's journeys as an artist, a mother, and my role as a human in the natural world. My art vibrates with this, communicating with mark=making rooted in impressionism and abstractionism, forming a symbiotic relationship with the past and present with the joy of raising children and sadness of leaving the nest. The works are a dance of light and hope that I found in change and share with the viewer.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Photograph on watercolor fine art paper 11 x 14 in. w/ frame 16 x 20 in.   The forest is my sanctuary, a place where I can slow down and appreciate Nature's gifts—serenity, solace, and healing. It's where I reconnect with a sense of childlike awe and collective bonding to its physical, mental, and spiritual riches of light and connectivity. My works capture the dappled light and life up close and personal, creating a symbiotic relationship with the past and present. The subjects of lichen, moss, algae, and insects showcase the symbiotic relationship with trees in textural detail and harmonizing colors found beneath the trees and offer observations of symbiotic life, hope, and light of our collective future.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Works on Paper 2020 18 x 24 in
  • inked plexi plates, printed on rives bfk paper 23 x 24 x 24" As I approached working away from my studio during the Covid 19 'stay at home' order, I worked small, using material that I had at hand, including family debris monoprints, created by layering inked printing plates with my family's ephemeral & permanent cast offs, a record of the mundane and obsolete. After completing a large series of small ‘art in isolation’ mixed media prints, I went 3d, using double sided family debris monoprints as components for building sculptural forms. Folded paper vessels were stitched together to create abstract sculptures that pushed the limits of paper, ink and thread. • ware-soluble media, India ink, acrylic paint, & acrylic paint marker 24 x 24 x 2.5" Other Dimensions is in my 'Celestial' series. Outerspace, clouds, floating, weightlessness, ... I feel like I'm looking into other dimensions or other worlds places I want to go and see. Where will it take me? With many layers of complex and pure color receding and coming forward. I especially enjoy beginning with water-soluble mark making media of various line qualities. Using my favorite brush, I move colored India Ink around on the canvas to create lovely grays. I then add acrylic paint as I respond to what is happening on the surface. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • pastel 12 x 9" The natural world always inspires me to paint with pastels. Cobalt reflections was inspired by a local hike after a recent snowfall. The blue sky reflections in the water with the rust colored leaves below the water attracted me to the location. The remaining scene unfolded before me and I knew I would paint it.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
