  • Lilies 20251
crayon, pastel and digital photo collage
    Size: 24 x 18
Joy, happiness, anxiety, pain, grief… any and all emotion that come with being a parent or caregiver-- my work explores the idea of memory, motherhood, children, health, life, place, and identity. While investigating the role of the caregiver lilies and their pads are not only beautiful, but they are also caretakers of the ecosystem in which they live. They purify the pond water and create a protective home for aquatic creatures—such as fish and frogs.

  • Rebirth Transfer Film Print of Digital Collage on Paper Size of Piece: 8 x 12 x 1

I am inspired by the ability of flowers to bring joy even in the darkest of times. In this piece, the contrast in value between the dark background and the light flowers reflects the flowers’ emotional push against darkness which is further emphasized by the subtle gradations in value surrounding the flowers. The value contrasts in the image are further enhanced by the strong color contrasts.

I began the image by drawing flowers in a garden and adding color with pencil and paint. I modified the value, color, forms and composition of the result to create a digital collage in Photoshop. The final image is a digital transfer of the collage to arches 88 paper using transfer film and transfer solution.

  • Have a Seat
Acrylic paint marker and ink wash on panel
Size: 12 x 12" Have a Seat is part of my FLORA series, an exploration and celebration of plants growing in the state of Rhode Island. These paintings were created using acrylic paint marker and ink wash on wood panel. I started this one in a greenhouse at one of my favorite places: Ragged Island Brewing Co. I spent a few hours on site composing, blocking in shapes, choosing base colors, and getting the perspective correct. I then took it into my studio, where the story in the painting revealed itself and I made decisions about what’s in / what’s out. I returned to the greenhouse to complete the piece a few days later. • Aegean Temple
    Acrylic on Linen
Size: 24 x 30" I generally start my artwork with loose, charcoal drawings. I then add. some patterns and textures. The emerging composition gives me my inspiration for the subject matter. Once decided, I can determine a color scheme. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Waiting
    Oil on Canvas Panel
Size: 24 x 18" I love crafting scenes that invite the viewer to become a storyteller. In this painting, we see two women sitting on a simple bench. What are they waiting for a friend, a lover, or a long-lost relative? Are they spending a quiet sunny day in thenpark, or is this a bustling bus stop humming with city life? Do they know each other? The beauty lies in the unanswered questions: Are they strangers sharing a silent moment, or old friends with a lifetime of secrets between them? I love leaving these threads untied, encouraging viewers to spin their own tales and breathe life into the scene, making each interpretation unique and personal. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Cityscape
    Oil on canvas painting

I was intrigued with the play of positive and negative space. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • I Will Take A Stand
Oil on Canvas Paper with Digitized Photo
    Size: 16 x 19.5
I Will Take A Stand.... Coming to adulthood during the 1970's, I am no stranger to political strife and the need to speak out. I find that again I must make my voice heard. This piece is from a series of photos I took of female bodybuilders, strong women in body and spirit. May we all STAND UP. • Think!
    monotype on BFK rives paper
    Size: 12 x 12
The Zen circle, Enso, and the color red are recurring themes in my abstract art making. In Zen circles the Enso is a circle drawn or painted in one breath. It may represent infinity, enlightenment or MU, which in Zen means emptiness. Open or closed, if made with a concentrated mind, the resulting Enso is perfectly imperfect – wabi-sabi – and cannot be repeated. During Covid I made a lot on Ensos in many different mediums. Each Enso representing a moment in time. After Covid I began my printmaking journey and of course had to include the Enso in some of my prints. Also included in this one is a torn page from one of the books I wrote. I see this piece as uniting my many worlds and connecting with the whole universe – interconnected and breathing as One.

  • Talisman #8
    acrylic on wood panel
    Size: 24 x 18
The Talisman series began as free experimentation with watery acrylic and ink on paper. Gradually a central portal or entity emerged. In Talisman #8, I also used molding paste for texture and the application of a linoleum block.

  • oil on panel 12 x 16" 2023   My work has been described as Contemporary Impressionism and is inspired by the beauty I see around me everyday. Sometimes the idea for a painting spontaneously presents itself as in plein air painting. I am inspired by the quiet meandering of a river, the vastness of a desert gorge, or the way afternoon sun lights the curve of an arch. Sometimes my paintings are inspired by many impressions and feelings of a place. I use technique to express relationships and create a sense of atmosphere, time and space.. • Parts of the Whole Printmaking: Monotype w/chine colle, acrylic paint, gold leaf Size: 10 x 8"

My current work investigates the nature of communication - natural, political, interpersonal and geographical - to see how they attune to each other and hold the whole intact or fail and misfire. I use various printmaking methods like a cook would mix edible ingredients. The inherent notion of trust in systems as safety nets, protection and comfort is currently a consideration for every American given current political policy makers. It is only with scrutiny and discernment that we can examine which systems we have become complacent about saving or redeeming. This piece evolved from 2024 through 2025. Collage bits, text and gold leaf obliquely mirror current overload of information from which we are to extract our truth.

  • oil on canvas
    24 x 18 x 1.5"
My work is representational though interpretive. I want the viewer to move between planes and have begun to layer using several techniques and medium to achieve this. Our eyes are constantly focusing, refocusing and readjusting as we view the world around us and I try to manipulate this effect through my work. I see energy in our surroundings. I am striving to transfer that immediate ‘colpo di fulmine’, that ‘love at first site’ onto my canvas or paper as I work on 2-3 pieces at the same time, moving from one piece to the next.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Social Hour Acrylic on Canvas Size of Piece: 30 x 40 x 1.5 Dinner with my nonagenarian friends inspired this piece and is why I called it "Social Hour" I decided to render them through colors and shapes so the focus would be on the connection between them and on the mood of the moment rather than on their features. What I see, hear, feel and experience makes its way into my art. Growing up in multiple cultures influences my work, and my love of fairy tales, fiction, fantasy, and sci-fi seeps through as well. I paint mostly in acrylics and gouache and love to experiment with a variety of techniques and materials. At times my work is autobiographical as I aim to tell a story, convey a feeling, or share memories. In Social Hour my focus was on friendship and aging. Through the use of vibrant colors, a sense of movement, and unexpected imagery, I hope the viewer is drawn into my work in a way that provides space for their own interpretation. • Thoughts Extend Sculpture-wood, found rust Size of Piece: 20.5 x 7

I negotiate my world as a maker. I love trees. Picking up fallen branches and twigs delights me. Rooting through my collection of gathered materials, I'm always thrilled to combine disparate elements and create a new object. My current piece, Extended Thoughts, is wood-carved, burned, and pigmented with colored pencil. The base is composed of various pieces of Rust - a square washer, a vintage gutter guard woven with coated yellow wire, and an old tree stand.

  • Standing Firm4 Acrylic on Canvas Size: 24 x 20" Jill Cliffer Baratta, MFA has been a member, volunteer and officer of NAWA since 2011. Visiting Brookgreen Gardens in 2023, attending a South Carolina Chapter meeting, Jill wandered the gardens. The land was donated by sculptor and NAWA member Anna Hyatt Huntington and her husband in 1931, so it took on significance beyond the beauty of the expansive estate. The bronze series “Circle of Life, Spring” caught the eye. The acrylic painting, entitled “Standing Firm,” is an interpretation of this figure, created by Harold “Tuck” Langland in 2001, and donated to the park. The image, backed by Spanish moss, took on special meaning as Jill’s daughter was just moving to the southern U.S., and is a yoga instructor. Further insight emerged as the politics of the country caused so much upheaval that the title of the painting, “Standing Firm” took on additional and deeper meaning. • Impressions de dimanche Oil on Linen Size: 10 x 8" I love going to art museums and sketching and painting people interacting with the art work on exhibition. • Glass Bowl of Oranges, Pitcher with Top, Red Peppers Watercolor Painting Size: 8 x 13" For over twenty-five years, I was a Professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at Northeastern University in Boston, where I live. After a productive life as an academic: teacher and scholar who wrote several books, I retired and changed direction completely. Spontaneously, I started to paint with watercolors, taking classes and workshops whenever and wherever I could. I was possessed with the desire to visually represent, in beautiful watercolor, fruits and vegetables in bowls and on plates, creating a new way of seeing beauty in everyday, taken-for-granted objects. I love color and transparent watercolor. Light and shadow --created by the sun outside but observed primarily indoors in the kitchen-- are magic. For me, lighted round fruits of vibrant colors, such as oranges and tomatoes, combined with blues, usually found in ceramics and fabric, represent a promise: of the pleasures of food, meals, community, and peacefulness. Watercolors are part of that promise. The term ‘still life’ is significant in more ways than one: the world needs still life. Using a transparent palette and techniques, I arrange and rearrange kitchen items, often food, in the sun attempting to capture beautiful colors with their shadows and reflections. My goal as an artist is to represent life in ways that create viewers’ pleasure in my artistic accomplishment and images. • Sahara Dust
    acrylic on canvas
    Size: 16 x 20
Florida annually gets an influx of nutrient-laden dust from the Sahara, thousands of miles away. Usually it means red dust on my porch rails, but on this particular evening it tinted the sky. Events like this remind us of the the complexities of relationships within the natural world, and the importance to conserve and honor these systems that we are only beginning to understand.

  • Thoughtful Woman
artist drawing & handdyed fabrics, textile mediums
    Size: 12.5 x 17.75
Following the completion of a large-scale work measuring 9 feet by 8 feet, I welcomed the opportunity to return to smaller, more intimate compositions. Thoughtful Woman emerged during a period of transition, as I awaited the arrival of Spring and sought the quietude of detailed, focused work. Inspired by a drawing from my book Rise with Radiance, this piece reflects a meditation on renewal and the beauty in the cycle of the seasons. I approached the creation of this work without a predetermined plan, allowing the process to unfold organically. Trusting my intuition, I let my inner self guide the evolution of the piece, resulting in an experience that felt liberating. Through vibrant colors, intricate stitching, and textures, I engaged closely with fine details and vibrant colors, feeling a restorative balance between creative practice and the arrival of my daffodils, cherry blossom trees, hyacinth, and buds.

  • Blockhead Series - Monkey
    ink on paper
    Size: 9 x 17
The Blockhead Series demonstrates the aesthetic beauty of both natural and abstract shapes as well as the meaningful use of color. In Monkey, the strong jawline, rounded form and large ears along with the bright white interior suggests its intellect while the lush, green color suggests its jungle home.

  • Mellow Yellow
oil, pigment sticks, charcoal, cold wax on panel
    Size: 16 x 16
My work explores the intersection between natural and human-made worlds through abstract compositions that channel emotional resonance. Drawing inspiration from the Blue Ridge Mountains and urban environments, I translate landscapes, shifting light, and vibrant color into layered paintings that feel both universally familiar and deeply personal. Each piece emerges through a dialogue between intuition and technique. By applying layers of pigment, wax, and charcoal, I establish tension between depth and flatness within the same canvas. This exploratory process invites viewers to contemplate their connections to both natural and constructed environments, and the beauty present in each. My approach has evolved to embrace greater spontaneity while honoring foundational materials and processes. I aim to capture the raw energy of landscapes while exploring the human experience within each scene. By allowing materials to intermingle unexpectedly, I create expressions that speak to our shared desire for awe and elemental connection.

25 x 13" I've been told "paint what you know".  The glass top table in my living room was so pretty with the flowers from my garden that I just had to capture it with paint. The reflections were quite a challenge. The image of the child in the doorway is my daughter, age 1 year, just learning to walk, and exploring everything!

  • The Sky Above Oil paint, tissue paper, oil pastel Size of Piece: 16 x 20"

I am both a professional musician and artist. I experience life as having order as well as disorder through sound and sight. I create art along with music. The execution of the painting therefore becomes a personal performance, as were my song recitals when I was singing professionally, the one difference being: I am not interpreting someone else's poetry - I am creating my own in color and shape.

  • Organ Concerto Oil Size: 20 x 16" Organ Concerto created during an artist residency in France, last year, in which I focused on the mastery of the use of cold wax medium and working in a series. This painting, part of the series, Symphony of Scars, focuses on the human experience—our frailties and vulnerabilities contrasted with the remarkable human capacity for strength and resilience. Organ Concerto at first glance, exudes a somewhat playful mood, yet beneath the surface, a deeper profound commentary on the human condition emerges reflecting the physical and emotional scars we carry. The layered structures and abstracted bodily forms reference the inner workings of the human body manifesting how it works synergistically to maintain homeostasis and balance. My choice of materials, oil, cold wax medium, pigment and inks, mounted on a sturdy wood substrate, facilitates a dynamic range of textures and depth, mirroring the layered complexities of human emotions and experiences. • Steinhatchee Falls Acrylic on Canvas Size: 24 x 24" I created this piece en plein air in the remote reaches of rural Taylor County, Florida, which has been devastated several years in a row by epic hurricanes and flooding. The Steinhatchee fishing village is resilient, though, which inspires me in these difficult times. • The World Askew
Printmaking: Encaustic, Collagraph Monotype on Rives BFK
Size: 18 x 18" This work speaks abstractly to the total chaos in the current world. The background field is a blended roll of intense color layered on a plexi plate which is printed first. The smaller circular and geometric shaped plates are created from cut up Yupo painted with hot wax and printed in relief then layered on top of the blended roll image.. The dynamic positioning of the cut plates reflects my stress at the state of our current society. I struggle to create beauty during these chaotic times. The title "A World Askew" encompasses my intention and inspiration for this work. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Wake Up!
    Acrylic with collage on canvas
Size: 14 x 18 The piece began as a comment about hearing, as I have just begun using hearing aids. It developed into a message about communication. I see a woman imparting important information to someone who needs to be woken up. She may be relaying a personal message or one that relates to today's social climate. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Fragments of Memory
sumi ink, tengucho paper, paper on paper.
    Size: 8 x 12
My artistic focus centers on creating abstract landscapes that explore transformation as a shared force between the natural world and human life. Attuned to nature’s rhythms—where change is constant, interconnected, and reflective of our own shifting inner worlds. I explore the interplay of movement and stillness, structure and fluidity. My work reflects the contrasts of the world around us—organic and man-made, fleeting and permanent, controlled and spontaneous. At the core of my practice is a fascination with these tensions. I aim to capture transformation—external and internal—through forms that reveal something beyond the visible and invite a dialogue that continues to evolve. • Small Work With A Dot On The Left
    ink on rice paper
    Size: 7.75 x 7.75
Levin’s ink drawings use dip pen on paper. Her undulating lines contain stops and starts, deliberate accidents, ink bleeding into the paper fibers, one line at a time in a repeated pattern. In the artist’s words, “Repetition is a mediating factor between things that came before and the present.” From a distance, we see a whole shape. Up close, however, the series of thinly drawn and repetitive lines ripple from one to another, creating connections to natural phenomena, such as, the rings on a tree, the whirls on a fingertip, water patterns, or the markings of an ancient cuneiform. • From Scratch
oil painting on gallery wrapped stretched canvas
    Size: 20 x 20
Shadows and refracted light always are always interesting to me. Both then themselves to exploring relationships between light and the curious things glass vessels do to optics. In this case, having created a beautiful loaf of bread with charred edges, casting lovely shadow on a tea towel, and the olive oil container morphing the image seen with in it inspired this work. • Hope
acrylic on two switchable panels .
    Size: 17.5 x 11.25
Given the state of our world, I wanted to paint an Icon of hope. For me in my life hope comes often from my garden, and I was thrilled when I realized that two denizens of my garden, Swallows and Artichokes, are traditionally conceived as symbolic of hope. Swallows (Hirundo Rustica) carry the spirits of deceased children giving ease to grieving parents, and the tender-hearted Artichokes have long been symbols of prosperity and hope. I wanted to show how these beings, especially the swallows, bring treasure and beauty into my garden and take what they find there back out into the world. Giving and gaining, stitching the realms together. So, I split the image into two reflections and made the painting convertible. Hung one way the Swallows are incoming and hung the opposite way they are dispersing.

  • Breakthrough
    oil on canvas painting
    Size: 20 x 16
I have a fascination for skies: clouds, variations of light, nuances of color, and the awesome scale of what is above us, ever changing in a kaleidoscope of pattern. My inspiration comes from transforming these shapes and beautiful light shows into a kind of blend between abstraction and realism. By capturing a segment of sky in patterns of light that intrigue me, I attempt to generate a sense of illumination that springs off the canvas. It can never be actual light, but the endeavor to create as close an approximation of it is what drives me.

    oil on wood panel
    Size: 12 x 12
Andrea Sacker is a New York based painter working in oils, gouache and watercolor. I paint places, people and things that are dear to my heart, collecting and distilling the images mostly from my own photographs. I use my intuitive sense of color and composition to reflect my emotional relationship to the subject mostly within the satisfying limitations of a square. During the height of covid and the 'shutdown', I unconsciously started painting the interiors of my home over and over and over. This is one such interior.

  • Contemplation Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 20 x 16

I was inspired by the contrast of the model against the light background, and the shadows that were created by the light source. My creative process was to establish the lights and darks. These are the vehicles to determine the correct values, I aimed to capture the confident, contemplative expression of the model.

  • Girl with Curlers Pencil and Pastel, Pencil on Paper Size of Piece: 10 x 8

“Girl with Curlers” is a portrait of my younger sister.  I was inspired when I saw her wearing her curlers in front of a window, the light from which bathed her hair and face in a soft glow.  I used an HB pencil, along with white, brown, and red pastel pencils on cream-colored paper to create a soft, minimalistic color scheme and used value to capture the interplay between the softness of her face and pajamas and the darker geometric mass of her hair in large curlers.

  • Gulf Tide Monotype on Printmaking Paper Size of Piece: 18 x 24

My art is a vibrant celebration of nature's dynamic energy, inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of Naples, Florida. During a morning walk, I was captivated by the shimmering sunlight kissing the horizon, the playful splashes of fish beneath the surface, and the gentle sway of seagrass on coral as it danced to the rhythm of each tidal wave. Through the expressive medium of Monotype and impressionistic mark-making, I endeavored to capture the gulf's movement and vitality—including its intense color palette and abundant life below reaching upward to the sunlight.

  • Martin Newell C, M Relief Print (linoleum) on paper Size: 19.25 x 17" I made this print based on a black and white photo I took of Martin Newell. I was teaching a printmaking class in which I wanted to instruct newer students how to think about making an image without outlining the subject, but instead to utilize negative space (i.e.: high key lighting). The first pull was done with black ink on white paper, but then I thought it would be even more intriguing to use transparent process colors and layering, thus another lesson!
