Timeless Texture Encaustic Size: 10 x 8 This body of work is an exploration of the universal allure and symbolic significance of entry doors from diverse cultures around the world. As a traveler deeply attuned to the visual narratives embedded in architectural details, I have always been captivated by the intricate designs and historical echoes encapsulated within these humble thresholds. Photographing doors from bustling cityscapes to remote villages, I seek to capture not just their physical presence but the stories they silently hold. Each photograph serves as a portal, inviting viewers to contemplate the cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and societal nuances reflected in these everyday yet extraordinary structures. Inspired by these photographic narratives, I translate the essence of each door into encaustic paintings, employing this ancient wax painting technique to imbue my paintings with layers of texture, color, and symbolism. Through the meticulous process of encaustic, I aim to evoke a sense of nostalgia, curiosity, and wonder—inviting viewers to peer beyond the surface and envision the worlds that lie beyond each door. collage; newsprint, dyed papers, recycled plastics and sashiko stitching with a vintage wood clotheshanger 36 x 17 x 3" "OMG” is a part of a series called "Woman is Boss", that makes art from the past, present. Japanese women from vintage newspapers and a 1937 travel book are shown in more submissive roles compared to women as they are viewed now. The name is derived from the facial expression of the large standing female figure on the left side viewing the female images around her. Inspiration came from repurposing a plastic commercial swimsuit hanger. This series of artworks utilizes recycled plastics, dyed papers as well as ancient newspapers, antique buttons and Sashiko stitching to create art using the female torso hanger shape.

Disturbed Photograph printed on Matte Paper Size: 5 x 15 I've learned over the years that the "Big" picture is not always the best picture. My vision has narrowed to allow a new perspective to develop. I now allow the scene to reduce itself to something so compact that it becomes the major component of what I see! photography 24 x 28.5" Shelburne Falls, MA is famous for it's "Bridge of Flowers". I spent a whole day taking photos up and down the bridge. I couldn't wait to see what photo would impress me the most when I got home. It was the Great White Trillium. A dramatic flower with wide petals and yellow stamen. It is majestic. I felt like Georgia O'Keef painting beautiful petals with streaming yellow centers splashing into one another. That's why I named this piece of artwork, My Cup Runneth Over.

photography 28.5 x 24" Around the Keukenof Gardens, you will find the most beautiful tulip fields in the Netherlands. The designers' arrangements of the tulips excited me. Beautiful yellows, reds, pinks, purples, and whites transformed into a magnificent painting. I was inspired to create with my camera my interpretation of the tulips. Using a Topaz filter, I was able to push and pull the colors of the tulips until I was satisfied that the Explosion of colors were perfect. I want the viewer to experience my image so that it will enhance your imagination and lift your spirit. I hope that what I have seen through my heart becomes visible through your eyes.

Petite Treat Sculpture: Acrylic paint on natural gourd Size: 6 x 3 x 3 I am a painter and sculptor. Materials and techniques are selected so I can invent unique images and narratives from my imagination. I employ concepts from abstraction, cubism, and surrealism to interpret the elusive qualities of time, energy, and storytelling. Primary and contrasting colors, moving lines, and overlapping shapes produce dynamic patterns and intricate designs. The natural gourd is prepared like a canvas. Opaque acrylic matte and gouache paint are rendered on the third dimensional surface creating a continuous painting involving the owner in selecting views. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic 11 x 9" As a fine artist: painter and sculptor, I use concepts of abstraction, cubism, and surrealism to explore the elusive qualities of time, energy, and storytelling. My artistic goal is to create seductive surfaces and provocative forms that involve the viewer in an emotional visual adventure. This painting is executed with acrylic paint on a third dimensional gourd. I redefine the use of the natural plant gourd as a third dimensional canvas. The gourd is a member of the pumpkin family. This plant form is dried, opened and the seeds removed. The surface is primed, images are rendered and finished with a protective matte varnish. Although coated inside the vessel may not be used for liquid. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic 15 x 15" My paintings celebrate those moments when our compassion for others illuminates and transforms us and the world around us. These acts of love and kindness are often unnoticed and forgotten. The women in my work are nurturers and peacemakers. Since ancient times women have personified compassion, wisdom and peace. I am a storyteller and my paintings have been described as "visual poetry". Stories help us to remember that we are all connected, and what affects one of us, affects all of us. They have the power to inspire us to create the inner peace that sows the seeds for compassion for others. Our intimate connection with nature and our role as nurturers and protectors are reoccurring themes in my work. Albert Schweitzer once said that until we extend the circle of our compassion to all living things, we will not find peace. Acrylics and oils are my primary media. Drawing is a defining element for me, I begin by blocking out major shapes with a strong dark line. Using linear brushstrokes that create movement, unity and rhythm, I add multiple layers of color, texture, pattern and sometimes canvas, continually refining my original drawing. My goal is to tell a universal story of compassion, peace and joy. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

pastel 11 x 14" I have developed a group of totally imaginary magically realistic oil paintings that I call my “Water Circus” series. The joy of taking a man-made or natural object and creating something new and fresh is very appealing to me. I allow myself a chance to play, to feel the rhythm of their form and reveal the hidden image in a new and unique way. I like to leave all possibilities open, to start unattached to the outcome, with everything totally permitted, thus enabling me to fully enjoy the process of discovery. I make my own paint by hand mixing dry pigments with burnt plate oil (a refined linseed oil used as the binder for etching ink). Because of this, I use thin glazes of the primary colors, add Liquin to hasten the drying, and build multiple layers of opaque values of each color in the egg tempera technique manner. The finished color relationships are always a surprise. This painting is a portrait of characters developed in this series. acrylic, airbrush, alcohol ink, oil pastel 40 x 48 x 1.5" Our world sometimes seems to be buffeted by forces beyond our grasp or comprehension. This diptych is informed by the "weather" of culture, politics, religion, differing ideologies. Much like a meteorologist might follow radar maps to stay informed on what's coming, sometimes the "weather" can still take us by surprise. Will it be sunny and predictable? Will it be turbulent and stormy? Looking at daily life through this filter, allows me some solace in letting go of things over which I have no control (like the real weather).

mixed media: acrylic, ink, pencil, oil pastel on canvas panel 13 x 16 x 1" Seeking to create deeper relationship with each viewer, no matter their experience or background, my visual language consistently relies upon the use of layers and color theory to invoke dimension and vibration. colored pencil on paper 34 x 23" New Beginnings is a portrait of my son using my own reference photographs, imagination and live luna moths that we raised and studied. Think!monotype on BFK rives paperSize: 12 x 12The Zen circle, Enso, and the color red are recurring themes in my abstract art making. In Zen circles the Enso is a circle drawn or painted in one breath. It may represent infinity, enlightenment or MU, which in Zen means emptiness. Open or closed, if made with a concentrated mind, the resulting Enso is perfectly imperfect – wabi-sabi – and cannot be repeated. During Covid I made a lot on Ensos in many different mediums. Each Enso representing a moment in time. After Covid I began my printmaking journey and of course had to include the Enso in some of my prints. Also included in this one is a torn page from one of the books I wrote. I see this piece as uniting my many worlds and connecting with the whole universe – interconnected and breathing as One.

printmaking 10 x 8" My purpose in making art is to touch the ineffable, to go beyond words into the deep belly of creativity. It is to meet myself in the wellspring and have a conversation with the viewer, to communicate in a deep and intimate way at first sight, in an instant. I strive only to be in harmony with each line, each splash of color and splatter of ink as it strikes the painting surface, to reveal what is already there. The experience of making marks gets truly exciting when I resist the impulse to name what I’m seeing take shape and open myself up to the possibility of not knowing, of just seeing and experiencing whatever is in front of me – what it is saying, what it is becoming. To let it do me rather than me do it. I wish for anyone who stands or sits in front of a piece of art created in my studio this same experience. I don’t want viewers to know or feel what I feel. I want them to know and feel whatever they feel. That is for me the true nature of all art: beauty that is unrepeatable and unnamable. acrylic on paper, cut into pieces and woven 19 x 25" Trying new things always interests me! I have worked with many different mediums in many different ways, and this past year I have found some new ways to work with paper. Using some of my collection of papers and weaving the papers makes an intricate relationship of the papers and expresses a new-found way of interaction. Working with acrylic pens in my sketchbook has lead me to a joyful way of expression. It is drawing and painting together in a new way. Using my sketchbook work to produce bigger sizes is what is happening. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

watercolor 24 x 32 x 1" During the Pandemic I sketched objects around the house. Pictured are 2 figurines: an owl and a turtle. I painted many watercolor variations of these two. pastel on paper, mounted photograph 25 x 32" My assemblages: pastel on paper and mounted photographs, are created by layering juxtaposing elements: nature vs. glitter. The viewers are immersed into my glowing, dazzling world of color, light, dimension and beauty. The effects are invigorating and enlightening and allows the viewer to pause and restore. I create these stills by combining the elements: ie. photographs of the landscape in seasons and detailed photographs of glowing or glittering moments. The paralleling objects are added to accentuate these phenomena. These compelling compositions are the culmination of many carefully executed steps that define my unique creative process. My most memorable highlight was being reviewed by Sam Hunter, Art Critic and Historian of Modern and Contemporary Art who found my work “refreshingly unique”. This has been a common theme among many of her positive reviews. “Nancy offers a “different” approach and passion to drawing. She is consistent in her vision…one can always recognize her signature style no matter how much she has changed or grown.” Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic & mica on canvas 30 x 24" My current work is about the collective unconscious, the evolution of language and the urge to write. Over time I have invented a symbolic language that borrows from ancient symbols but represents no language system but my own, hybrid, created one, that continues to evolve with each new piece I make. The work is meant to be read as language that has no signified meaning other than the viewers interpretation.
