  • 4 refracted watercolors on up-cycled box with poem 6 x 16 x 11"
An old jewelry box was up-cycled - the four surfaces cleaned and 4 refracted watercolors added to correspond with each of the four lines of a poem written for the box. Sky knows the snow will cloak the resting branches Sky knows the tilting of the earth will warm the trees and bring them to life Sky knows the heat of the summer will bring the fruit ready for harvest Sky knows the falling of leaves returns the strength of the tree to the earth for the next year. Most of the other surfaces are just left as they were, to remind the user of the box's previous life. Acrylic glazing makes the box a useable item.

  • False Guarded charcoal on birch Panel 30 x 20 False Guarded is part of a broader series examining generational trauma and the ways inherited pain can shape the emotional lives of women. The work focuses on a survival response born from repeated hurt: the decision to abandon vulnerability in favor of protection. What begins as a necessary coping mechanism gradually becomes a defining structure, allowing fear to dictate the terms of one’s life. The figure is held in a defensive posture, one arm raised and rigid, slowly transforming into a tree-like form. This stance reflects emotional petrification—the point at which self-guarding hardens into permanence. Shelf fungi grow along the raised arm, referencing their tendency to thrive on trees that appear healthy but are hollowing on the inside. The imagery becomes a metaphor for carrying pain quietly, maintaining strength and functionality while emotional pain remains unseen. The opposite arm lowers, exposing an open wrist to a snake winding upward along the body. The snake symbolizes fear, persistent, intimate, and increasingly influential when left unchallenged. Rather than confronting or releasing it, the figure allows it space, illustrating how fear can become familiar and inviting. Rendered in charcoal on wood, the work emphasizes time, resistance, and accumulation. The medium resists erasure, mirroring the emotional labor of women who survive by becoming immovable, rooted in endurance, shaped by inherited trauma, and suspended between protection and the possibility of transformation. • Twisted Pine oil on canvas 16 x 16 This painting of the Torrey Pine stands as a reflection of my own journey, a testament to endurance, transformation, and the quiet strength that grows from surviving life’s harshest landscapes. With its twisted trunk reaching toward a bright, open sky, the tree becomes a symbol of the power to prevail, echoing the resilience we cultivate through struggle. The Torrey Pine is one of the rarest pines in North America, known for thriving in rugged coastal conditions where wind, salt, and shifting terrain shape its form. Its beauty is not born from ease but from challenge, and in that way, it mirrors the story of a life shaped by hardship, healing, and the determination to keep reaching upward. I see my own experiences reflected in its weathered limbs, each twist and curve an acknowledgment of the storms I’ve learned to withstand. The clear sky above is not simply a backdrop but a promise. It represents the hope that guides me through difficult seasons and the calm that follows when clarity finally breaks through. Over time, I have learned to honor both the light and the struggle, understanding that the hard moments carve out the space for growth, depth, and compassion. This piece celebrates the beauty that emerges from perseverance and the strength gained from surviving with an open heart. It invites viewers to see the grace in Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • Inyo
    oil on canvas
    Size of Piece: 48 x 80 x 2
Inyo refers to the place of the great spirit, the believer's heart, seen as the creator and sustainer of all things. As artists, we are the creators and sustainers of our creations, representing yin and yang—the two colors coexist yet are separate, representing positive and negative energies. This piece examines the dynamic patterns in an artist's career, specifically the interplay between change and difference. Enjoy a glimpse into mine, and it is the centerpiece for my upcoming solo show at Inyo Solo Rockport Art Association & Museum August 16–September 4, 2025.

  • Nothing is Permanent Except Change
    oil on canvas, unframed
    40 x 36
As I created these new works, I was keenly aware that every mark I made was made by one hand--my hand--and that the finished product would live and breathe as part of a world in which we all are tenants and that we all share. An expression is synonymous with Mother Earth, leading to our departure from the stations of life, our search for new noise and passion, and our empowerment and encouragement of change. In this conception, 'Nature' is not a source of material for production but the beginning and end of all life and culture. My work centers on the idea of being nowhere and everywhere, waltzing around cultural boundaries with beliefs and traveling through form and energy, attempting to incorporate conflict, balance, and harmony to shape the work's influences, thoughts, and hope for the same thing and shared moment. • Incursion oil on canvas
    20 x 24
This scene was inspired by a visit to Pt Reyes in Northern California with my sister who lives in San Francisco. The beauty and wildness of these beaches was something I hadn’t experienced before, living near Philadelphia. Not a beach for swimming. I also learned about the invasion of the ice plant in the foreground. It was a beautiful red color but very harmful to the local plant and animal life. • My Side
    oil on canvas
    Size of Piece: 20 x 16 x 1
Light and shadow are fascinating; the colors they contain, the complexity of their value shifts. I strive to have the viewer stop and take the beauty of what often goes unnoticed. Depicting beauty in the everyday, even messy scenes is one of my goals as a painter. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Night Vision
    watercolor
    6 x 4
I rarely start out a painting with an idea of what I am going to paint. I am often inspired by shapes that interest me, starting with a mark on the paper and seeing where my intuition leads, often arriving at a very different composition than the one I began with. Some themes do resurface time and time again - the moon, portals, day and night, clouds and the seasons. Once the painting is complete (and sometimes many months after), I begin to get an idea of what it was trying to express, and title it accordingly. I use Arches 300lb. watercolor paper and archival watercolor pigments. Many transparent washes are applied to each painting in order to intensify and vary the color palette - a process I have arrived at over many years that often isn’t recognized as watercolor.

  • Campus Point Lagoon II
    Acrylic on cradled birch board
    11 x 14
My kid is a student at UCSB, which is not far from where we live. Early one November morning, before it was even light, I got a slightly panicked text that he needed his spare key and would I be at all willing to drive it out to him. I was still in bed, but I could see the marine layer was starting to break up, and I had been meaning to get out to the lagoon on the campus and photograph it in the morning light, so with a raised eyebrow and a bit of snark, I hauled myself upright and took the key and my camera out to the lagoon. It was still a dreamy sort of half-light when I got there, and the sky was reflecting quietly in the water. This piece is a little dreamlike because I was just barely out of bed in that moment. It feels like it is still carrying something of the night with it. I paint in acrylics, largely because I like the fast drying time, but I have to contend with it by building up many translucent layers to blend and soften the clouds and reflections.

  • Arches and Bars, Henry Hudson Parkway
    oil on canvas paper
    12 x 9
As a contemporary realist painter, my work presents urban landscapes and artifacts from unusual points of view and in striking lighting conditions that draw attention to overlooked elements of the environment. In addition, I seek out elements of the urban environment where nature and man interact -- neglected corners where nature has reasserted itself among the steel and stone of the city. This is a painting of a section of the Henry Hudson Parkway in New York City as seen through an iron fence. It is off the beaten path, and partly obscured by tall weeds. I loved the contrasts of the shapes - curves and lines - and of the organic and man-made structures. With the mysterious background light, the parkway arches evoke those of a cathedral. I used multiple glazes to create a sense of depth in the background light, in contrast to the rougher, more gestural strokes for the foreground leaves.

  • Women Series一 Body Memory • Emergence oil on board 24 x 20 28 x 24 Body Memory is a group within the Women series, initiated in 2015, marking the beginning and ongoing development of my exploration of women’s experience and states of being. Rather than depicting specific female figures, the works consider women as a continuously unfolding state of being. The body becomes a vessel of time, where experience, emotion, and social roles accumulate, endure, and are preserved. From 2015 to the present, time itself has become part of the work. Body memory is not only a record of lived experience, but also a formation of women’s voices—persisting across past, present, and future, and continuously participating in and shaping “the people” themselves. • Crosswalk 3 printmaking 8 x 10 Framed Size: 15 x 17 On June 14, 2025, protests against a wannabe king took place all over the country. Leaving the protest, as we crossed the street, I took a photo of the characters in this image. It seemed quite emblematic of the time we are in now, when liberty is at stake. A woman dressed as the Statue of Liberty and was crossing simultaneously with a woman holding a "No Kings" placard and a woman in an abaya covering, with a small boy. There were others, so I included a gentleman to round it out. The photo, for me, was not enough, nor was the watercolor painting I made from it. I had to challenge myself, and this print is one of the two best from a very difficult registration process. I felt it worth pursuing as a moment in history and culture. The crosswalk is a good symbol- representing what we are crossing from and where we are going. The characters are many, and all worthy of liberty. The crosswalk may also represent following the rules for our own safety. Freedom does have its boundaries. This is a tribute to the US Constitution and its basic premises, that we can all walk here as long as we are following the rules. • Familiar Rose intaglio 8 x 5.5 Framed Size: 17 x 14 This is a portrait of Rose Greenfield Cliffer, 1901-1979. The solarplate etching was made from a picture of her in her 20's in the 1920's. Rose was born in Romania, and came to the US as a child, as (Jewish?) girls could not be educated at that time in Romania.. She was elegant (hat and white gloves), strong and hard-working. She was a seamstress, a Marshall Fields store model, and the mother of my father and his twin brother (died at age 6) and my aunt Carole Cliffer Kramer. Her "bob" speaks of the fashion of the time, and my heart speaks to the thoughtful gaze that was captured by this young woman, my grandmother. She had a "green thumb," kept a jade plant in her window that overlooked Lake Michigan, smoked Kent cigarettes, and taught us many card games. I felt the print needed my touch, so added the line and pastel work to enhance the image. I continue to honor her memory. • Ocotilla and Mountains Printmaking 8 x 10 Being a visitor to the west coast, the desert was a novelty, I wanted to remember the palette, the quiet vibe and simplicity, though schooling taught me there is a lot going on there that we don't see. Mountains are mysterious, and somewhat forboding- framing the horizon here, where the shrubs and shadows catch the heat of the day. It feels gritty and basic, dry, and yet spotted with color, conducive to the brushstroke. A monotype is a unique print obtained by painting, in this case, on plexiglas with printing ink, run through a press that yields only one product. It is a technique on its own- sort of a painter's printmaking method. You can't apply ink thickly, as it will just splat, but you can get interesting brushstroke effects. This is part of my Pacific memory. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Standing Firm, After Tuck Langland (sculpture) watercolor on paper 30 x 22 Visiting Brookgreen Gardens in Murrell's Inlet, in South Carolina is always special. I found the sculptures of "Tuck" Langland and this one spoke to me, as I have done yoga all my adult life, and this figure is in the well-known tree pose. The harmony of the sculpture with the live oak and Spanish moss backdrop spoke to me, and I portrayed it in watercolor on paper. • Standing Firm1
    watercolor
Size of Piece: 12 x 9 This watercolor was a sketch that was part of a series of studies and paintings of a sculpture that "spoke to me" at Brookgreen Gardens. in Murrells Inlet, SC. I had visited the NAWA SC Chapter in 2023, and took some photos of some of the sculptures in the gardens. When the chapter secured an exhibition at the Gardens' Rosen Galleries, I decided to explore the bronze sculpture, Circle of Life- part of the 4 Seasons series by Harold "Tuck" Langland, created in 2001. This sculpture shows a yoga pose; my daughter teaches yoga, I have done yoga for decades, and she is now in the south where Spanish moss proliferates. • acrylic on canvas 14 x 11"
Borrowing the lake house of a friend, and taking time away from the usual, a group of my friends gathered on Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, for fun and adventure. This image of the house reflected in the lake, is the view from a kayak. The friends (not shown but having stayed together in the house) are those from high school, and the reflections may represent how time breaks up the memories, as well as how moving water, like time, breaks up the reflections. The more friends, the more broken memories may be stitched back together, especially when some go back to elementary school!

  • West End
    acrylic
    Size of Piece: 48 x 36
On a flight out of Ft Lauderdale, I was stunned by the beauty of the Bahamas' West End. Using varying viscosities of acrylic paint, multiple layers were added, scraped through, and manipulated, creating a tactile surface. Transparent layers intertwine with thick impasto structures reminiscent of the carbonite rocks and coral reefs visible in the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic.

  • acrylic on canvas 40 x 30 x 3"
With all the tension in the world with aggression and war, I wanted to create an image that represented the end of the conflict. There is a feeling of exhaustion of the soldier's limp arm. There is no weapon in his open hand. The soldier has given everything for a cause, but his desire to continue has come to an end. Let the symbolism of the toga, wing of victory and laurel wreath inspire dialog and compromise to bring peace.

  • Moment in the Movement oil on canvas
    Size of Piece: 30 x 40 .75
Moment in the Movement is inspired by Bonnie Kerness, a friend and nationally-recognized leader in the U.S. prison abolition movement. Here, Bonnie is rendered using a photo I took of her during a strategy meeting of local advocates in her 50-year role as Director of the Prison Watch Program, an arm of the American Friends Service Committee. Hunched in a gesture of weighty reflection, but perhaps also in prayer, she is cloaked by a life-affirming blue-green that contrasts with an ominousness dark background. The watery movement of her spectacular crown of white hair exists in tension with sharp, foreboding shapes surrounding, and within, her face. It was my aim to evoke a sense of bruising vulnerability, a compassionate melancholy, and also a kind of populist regality.

  • The Cloisters Museum in Shadow and Light Watercolor 30 x 22
For those of us fortunate enough to live in Upper Manhattan NYC, Fort Tryon Park is our own mini Central Park and also something more. With the Cloisters Museum serving as its "castle on a hill", the Park with its lush landscaping in the same English Romantic style as Central Park, but with sweeping views of the Hudson River and the Palisades of NJ beyond, Fort Tryon Park is a place that brings out the best of us. It is a little-known gem, a neighborhood treasure that reminds us that we can daily experience renewed awe in its beauty, find calm in its idealized version of nature, delight in its wildlife, and take heart in how we and our neighbors and visitors alike smile, say hello, and find common cause in our love for the place. In the daily stresses of urban life that can sometimes bring out the worst in its residents, the Park is a place where we access a different side of life, a place we all agree that we treasure despite other disagreements. And in so doing, it is a place that prompts us to be a better, nobler version of ourselves.

    Size of Piece: 24 x 30 x 1

These buoys were hanging at a pier on West 41st St. in New York City. I loved the unexpectedness of the buoys, with odd shapes and unpredictable colors. Their distressed quality made for a more interesting subject. I painted this realistically but with the hope that the final outcome would have abstract qualities.

  • She Who Endures watercolor 14 x 13 framed size: 24 x 23 She Who Endures What I love about working with watercolor is its unique freshness, its clean sparkle, clarity and luminosity. Every painting has the potential to emerge as a celebration of the medium. I especially enjoy experimenting with color, and with many layers of glazing, creating harmonious mixes, using veils of color to produce subtle changes and fine nuances in my work. Each painting becomes a learning process, a fascination with what will happen as I walk along its path. Each painting has its own vibration, its own energy. Every success becomes very precious because with watercolor, one can never repeat any part of the work in exactly the same way. charcoal on drawing paper
Size of Piece: 24 x 19 Drawing is at the base of all my artwork. Charcoal is a medium I rarely use but find it is malleable and allows great variety with changing pressure and angle. I named it "Inside" because it feels like an internal, private moment. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • Not All Who Wander Are Lost oil on linen panel
    12 x 9
This painting was inspired by my son’s move to California for his medical residency. During a family visit to Big Sur, I watched him walk ahead on the cliffside trail, taking in the vastness of the Pacific and the rugged beauty around him. In that moment, the scene felt like a visual metaphor - a young man stepping into a new chapter, following a path filled with possibility. I wanted to capture both the landscape and the feeling: the soft California light, the sweep of the coastline, and the quiet courage it takes to walk toward an unknown future. The warmth of the grasses and the glow on the path reflect the hope and pride I felt watching him begin this journey from Augusta to California. This piece is both a memory and a blessing - an image of exploration, growth, and the beauty of moving forward. • Fungus (Orange)
    colored pencil
    6 x 6
Drawing has always been, more or less, part of my life. My great grandmother was an artist, as was my mother, and they influenced (and, in the case of my mother, supported) my affinity for realistic art. I focus mostly on detailed, realistic drawings, including magnified images of woodland landscapes based on photographs I have taken while walking in the woods and on the beach near where I live in Essex County, MA, using both graphite and colored pencil. I find the magnified images of the woodland floor compelling landscapes not only because of the varied shapes, but the myriad of colors. In this case, the orange and dark reddish purples are compelling. This particular image is a portion of a larger image that I intend to draw in the future, perhaps on a larger scale.

  • I Am A Woman photography 36 x 24 I AM WOMEN, NOT A HOST On June 24, 2022, when Roe v. Wade was overturned, thousands gathered in New York City in urgent protest. I stood not only as a witness, but as a participant, using my camera as both instrument and voice. These two images form a single statement. On the front of her body, the words I Am Woman declare identity, autonomy, and presence. On her back, Not a Host confronts the reduction of women to vessels. Together, they hold the tension between visibility and erasure, power and vulnerability. Photographed in the surge of collective resistance, this woman’s body became both canvas and proclamation. She carries the language of protest on her skin, transforming flesh into testimony. Presented in Seneca Falls, where the women’s rights movement first took organized form, these images connect past to present. They ask what has changed, what remains fragile, and how we continue to stand — visible, embodied, and unyielding. • Wild Wild West digital Duraflex C photographic print mounted behind plexiglass with buffed edges Size of Piece: 15 x 20 x 1.5
“Wild Wild West” is part of my ongoing series Mirrors of a Universe, exploring the archeology of reflectivity in urban spaces. This diptych captures layered reflections of city life in glass, water, and metal, where fleeting moments of light and shadow reveal hidden patterns, textures, and interactions. Each frame, taken seconds apart, creates a dialogue with time, highlighting subtle changes in movement, atmosphere, and perception. By pairing images that mirror, contrast, or complement each other, I examine how urban environments record the impermanence of human activity. The work transforms ordinary city scenes into layered meditations on temporality, presence, consciousness, and the rhythms of daily life, inviting viewers to slow down and notice.
