oil on canvas 22 x 28" When I first saw Hudson Valley's landscape, I was stunned. It was picturesque, friendly, and colorful! It had incredible richness of nature - wild flowers in fields, abundance of trees and bushes, green grass around houses... Nature in Hudson Valley is so powerful that it could easily overcome human-made structures. But at the same time, nature and people their live in harmony with each other., and human habitats in Hudson Valley look so different in compare to disturbing life in big American cities. All that make this area unique and magical. In my painting I tried to express this harmony and promising way of living.

oil 8 x 10" Irina’s work is driven by passion to explore and celebrate life. She is searching for beauty, balance, harmony and the ideal, following the philosophy of the great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy who believed that “beauty will save the world.” Art has always been Irina’s salvation and the fountain from which she could draw inspiration, strength, love and serenity. Irina is working primarily in oils in various genres, including portraits and figurative work, florals, still lives and landscapes. Recently she is exploring pastels, a new medium for her, which is experiencing Renaissance in the United States and which has been more widely adopted in Europe. Irina is also using digital media as her tool of storytelling to touch the audience’s hearts. Being equally good in traditional media and in digital arts, Irina explored a newly found ground in digital illustration by writing, illustrating, designing and publishing a new children’s book Balloon at Noon and Other Stories. Irina’s main influences, at least for the moment, are the Florentine Renaissance painters of the 16th century Leonardo da Vinci, Tintoretto, Veronese, Titian, among others. She has found it gratifying to rediscover realism and to dedicate time to study and observe form, light and color. She is painting and drawing live models again to explore the subtle shadows, softness, and warmth of human flesh, as well as the texture and radiance of everyday objects. It feels as though it took Irina a long time, down an ever-winding road, to become a fine artist. There were many detours along. Pastel 15 x 15" The Trinity Bridge of Saint Petersburg reflects the notion of sorrow for the times past and present with the rainy glare, yet a gleaming hope of indelible light. It gives me great pleasure and a sense of fulfillment to be able to capture and express the virtuosity of both, the stark, but genuine nature, and the skillful excellency of the architecture.

This piece is a tribute to all women struggling with physical deformity whether due to illness or damage to sense of self. Learning acceptance of the positives and negatives is the goal. The women are warriors and symbols of strength and survival. The original piece was carved in marble, and copies were cast in marble dust and resin. Each side shows a positive and negative half.

A Fragmented Life Sculpture: Glazed and Fire Stoneware Size of Piece: 8 x 7 x 8 A Fragmented Life evolved from a workshop dealing with the idea of house. A house protects and a house can conceal. The figure is broken but not falling apart. She is trying to gain sustenance from the broken elements below her. The various pieces are glazed, fired stoneware. The McCarthy plaque shows my great grandparents, Dennis and Mary McCarthy, after they emigrated from Ireland to upstate New York, leaving behind the Great Famine. They were married in 1874, and had 7 children including my grandmother Julia Guinane. The relief was modeled in clay and a plaster was made from that and colored with a bronze paint. Bound Bonded Bronze Size of Piece: 40 x 24 x 16 The original piece was a large piece of black walnut wood. I created a small model and carved a male figure. He is starting to walk. Though his hands are bound in back with rope, and he is a slave, he holds himself upright with hope and self pride. This is a copy of the original and is made of bonded bronze. onyx 10 x 16 x 15" The Invasive is a sculpture, in onyx, based on a two inch black seed of an invasive plant in the Hudson River. The sculptural forms of the seed are amazing and look a little like a devil"s head. Hence the nickname.

The sparse style and subtle tones of each work reflect my deep bond to the vastness and simplicity of nature which I seek to translate from the purely material to the realm of the transcendental with a layering of transparent tones. My subject matter can be seen as a diary of locations visited which convey both a nostalgic memory of the simplicity and restorative effects of nature which have become increasingly overlooked in lieu of technology and as a future documentary comparison.

pastel/stonehenge paper 22 x 28" The sky is ever changing and because I spend a multitude of time at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean I am constantly inspired by the variations even from moment to moment. While, Red Sky, may seem an exaggeration, in reality it was a particularly magnificent and pervasive sunset that saturated not only the sky but everything under it, including the ocean with a deep red glow. A truly mystical moment.

The forested mountains running down to the shore and the color of the water create a very different landscape than the south Florida coastline. With whales, seals and dolphins watching the marine life is pure joy.

Every summer we would stay on the bluff overlooking the Skidaway River. On the incoming tide, we would put on our bathing suits and our tennies to go swimming in the river. But you had to be careful not to get cut by the oysters and the Spartina grass. That and rowing the bateau out to catch crabs and play with the dolphins was the best. Choosing an apple strongly symbolized this religious meaning, but how to render spirituality, devoid of gravity, was the challenge. The painting method implemented was to paint a setting of various deep blues pushing space forward and back. The wispy leaf-like lines created movement and visually flowed across the canvas implying spirit. The apple, in its purest form and color, is braced by 2 branches and created a stillness... Now the apple is ready to be picked.

acrylic 24 x 32" Traveling through Iceland and Alaska has provided many vistas of cold and frozen, snowy and rocky, desolate and comforting spaces. The deep quiet interrupted by a calving glacier, a roaring waterfall or the whoosh of an eagle's wings call me to capture yet another image. Painting these memories challenges my expression of the extremes of the winter seasons and climates....the sharpness of frozen ice.... and the softness of fallen snow....the deep blacks of volcanic rock and the pale blues of sky and waters. Daily, there are more catastrophic meteorological events, as well as alarming statistics regarding glacial melting rates, wildfires, years-long droughts, disappearing habitats, and much more. Our safe food and water supply is imperiled on many fronts through pollution, poor infrastructure, war, politics, over consumption. The list is endless. So many humans have contributed to the crisis either actively or through ignorance, not knowing or caring about how their daily habits contribute to the current and immanent crisis. In choosing elements of nature as a theme, my sculptures reflect a concern regarding the effects of climate change. Trees expresses a possible future of desiccation, decay, and destruction. The future is colorless, hard, harsh, and lifeless. Hopefully, viewers of my work will have a visual reference that will influence individual and collective action against climate change.

My work endeavors to take all the conflict, tragedy and transmute it into visual harmony, in essence; take heat and make light.

Objects and photographs from years ago when I lived on the East Coast, that had been stored away for many years, when rediscovered, triggered an avalanche of memories and emotions. This piece is one of many that I refer to as Envisioning Emotional Connections Between Objects, Time, Memory and Experience.

acrylic & latex on canvas 30 x 40 x 2" After living in Los Angeles for years, I moved to Northern California. The pristine beauty inspired me to paint the landscape - motivated in part by the fear that I would wake up one day and it would all be gone! The Wildfires of 2017 were traumatic, we (my husband and I) experienced three on our land that year. Lower Ridge and Cow Mountain Under Smoke were both painted during the 2020 fire season, I felt as if I had to bear witness to this vanishing landscape. Later that year, largely due to the sudden death of my youngest sibling and ensuing California wildfires, we chose to sell our 195 acre place and move back to the East Coast to be near family. In my quiet rural town we are creating a new life and farm. I am still witnessing and interpreting the landscape. October Garden is about the excitement of connecting to and observing my new environment.

It was painted in the spring of 2022 after being reunited with possessions of mine stored for decades. I had recently moved back to the East Coast from Northern California. The ensuing flood of emotions, memories and the sensations of touching objects and seeing again photographs of family members who had died even before the items were stored away, was overwhelming. Printemps is in honor of my grandmother Mamie, an artist and performer who raised me when I was a child and died when I was 14 years old. Printmaking 15 x 15" Bell’s Woodlands is a print from my recent series “ Trail Musings”. Being surrounded by nature has always been a source of interpretation for me, I am concerned about the impact and consequences of climate change. From remembered landscapes, I draw on my landscape photographs recording light, shadow and memory. Merging the images from several perspectives gives a closer interpretation of my experiences. The resulting images suggest narratives of unfolding life cycles: birth, growth, death and renewal.

I use a variety of materials and techniques, loving the process of applying paint and other mediums.I take inspiration from what I see emerge.
