For several years now, news media reports have been showing the destruction that is happening to our planet. Daily, there are more catastrophic meteorological events, as well as alarming statistics regarding glacial melting rates, wildfires, years-long droughts, disappearing habitats, and much more.
Our safe food and water supply is imperiled on many fronts through pollution, poor infrastructure, war, politics, over consumption. The list is endless. So many humans have contributed to the crisis either actively or through ignorance, not knowing or caring about how their daily habits contribute to the current and immanent crisis.
In choosing elements of nature as a theme, my sculptures reflect a concern regarding the effects of climate change. Trees expresses a possible future of desiccation, decay, and destruction. The future is colorless, hard, harsh, and lifeless.
Hopefully, viewers of my work will have a visual reference that will influence individual and collective action against climate change.
