Printemps is one of the first pieces I painted in my Abstracted Memories series.. It was painted in the spring of 2022 after being reunited with possessions of mine stored for decades. I had recently moved back to the East Coast from Northern California. The ensuing flood of emotions, memories and the sensations of touching objects and seeing again photographs of family members who had died even before the items were stored away, was overwhelming. Printemps is in honor of my grandmother Mamie, an artist and performer who raised me when I was a child and died when I was 14 years old. She sewed her dresses with beautiful fabrics, and loved flowers and bright colors.
