unique photo transfer technique with intaglio print 21 x 17" My husband and I went to a fundraiser for the Litchfield Jazz Camp in Connecticut, and there was a young man playing with the adults in the ensemble that was entertaining. I was so impressed with his playing that I took a few photos. I have used this unique photo transfer technique, which mimics aquatint (sort of- not purely of course), because I like the texture and unpredictability of it. I created a drypoint intaglio plate to superimpose over the photo transfer, and this is the result. There is jazz music around me all the time, so musical themes are some of the subject matter in my artwork. I enjoy the challenge of showing something purely aural in a visual way.

acrylic on cradled paper 16 x 16 x 1.5" Bewitched is a state of mind, one where we question, wonder, and are captivated. Much like our journey through the winter months, the beauty of nature presents enchants and challenges as it casts a spell of wonderment. My interpretation of this fascinating occurrence is revealed like a morning blanket of the wintery mix with the impermanence we can't control. Educator Statement As a Signature Member of the National Association of Women Artists and an educator at the Dartmouth Cultural Center I had the good fortune of participating in this inaugural educational event. The DCC students, Iria DeValles-Vieira, Beth Russo, and Robert Vesprini, accepted the challenge of creating a group artwork. Each of them created two pieces that narrate their interest in the oceans that are part of our everyday life. They started the project in mid-September and completed the work in mid-December. Working in class under my direction and on in their studios as a team. Weekly feedback and critique fuel the process until all were happy with the result. Over the twelve weeks they planned, executed, and delivered these amazing efforts. Each piece uses a construction tube as a substrate that was painted, sanded, decoupaged, and covered with found objects of their choice. These artists have taken numerous abstract painting classes at the DCC. They are quite familiar with each other’s methods and thought processes. We hope to display the artwork series, Neptune’s Rabbit Hole, in various public venues over the next several months. Given the amount of work each artist dedicated to the project they are to be commended for their excellent work as individuals and as a team. I am delighted to have steered the ship on this Imaginary Playground voyage. Participants Names & Ages Beth Russo, over 60 Iria DeValles -Vieira, over 60 Robert Vesprini, over 60

acrylic 26 x 20 x 1.5" Three Sheets is an expression of how one hides behind a thin veil of imagined reality. It explores the impermanence of masking one's life artificially with intoxication. It has been said that an overstimulated being is Three Sheets to the wind, in essence, out of control. There are many ways one can be intoxicated. It could be love, emotional distress, fatigue, or just inebriation from consumption. As they say, what's your poison?

Acrylic 50 x 38 x 2"West End was inspired as I gazed out the window on a flight back from Ft Lauderdale on a crystal-clear morning. Leaving the urban jungle, the Atlantic Ocean consumed the horizon with a palette of deep blues and greens, sparkling like gems. As the West End of Grand Bahama Island came into view, the push and pull of tonal range increased creating an amazing design of shallows and depths. Inspired and in awe of this natural, abstract vision, West End was destined to be painted.

acrylic on canvas 9 x 11 x .5" This is one of a series of small paintings exploring the light and impact of Sunshine and Moonbeams in the South Florida Everglades, particularly in the Fakahatchee State Preserve. Each scene is abstracted, and a similar palette was used to give unity to the series with the goal of having each painting able to stand on its own.

Stoneware 30 x 20" I use pictorial imagery of various cultures, throughout history, by utilizing myths, religious and secular symbols in my work. The images are not literal, but symbolic expressions of prevailing ideas and thoughts about current issues in the world. I am recently exploring Global Warming and mass extinctions of flora and fauna across the world. Looking through the window of history and comparing current social issues with the past, I strive to provoke thoughtful consideration and awareness of diverse cultures in the world today. Under Pressure Wood-fired stoneware, mink, cedar, iron Size of Piece: 22 x 20 x 8 Human Interference with Earth is the concept of this work. I grew up on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota where open pit, strip mining affected everyone's lives- positively and negatively. Today the scars of the iron ore mines still and forever will mark the earth. Today, I question mining methods and the impact on the earth's natural resources. In some instances, mining aids economic growth, but at what cost? Fresh water, air, wildlife and human habitat are under pressure. Wolf Moon Soda fired stoneware Size of Piece: 18 x 18 x 16 I believe an artist must be deeply connected to the physical, metaphysical and spiritual world. Phenology of nature: Wolf Moon is one of a series of ceramic sculptures derived from direct observation of the night skies during different seasons. The Wolf Moon is a winter moon named by the Ojibwe. The concept of this moon is my direct observation contrasted with historical beliefs and the myths describing the phases of the moon. The ethereal beauty and emotive connection to nature is my inspiration. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

oil 30 x 24 x 2" I am fascinated by light reflected on glass and water. One of my goals is to be able to render it impressionistically in oil paint. The glass box was made by my father who has passed away, so the scene held a double challenge for me as artist. I wished to pay a tribute to his artistry with my own.

photography 16 x 20 x 1" I have lived in places where winter is beautiful, but often brutal. I live in the South now and need to create my frozen spaces. acrylic with drawing media on cradled board 20 x 20 x 1.5" Dark days of the quarantine resulted in a pall over everyday life, fostering solitude and stressing hope. My work explores the limitless possibilities of abstraction without reference to objective reality while it readily accesses a feeling or mood. In this work, layers of paint and lines mix together, shift and overlap, creating a floating movement as brighter spots are revealed beneath.

oil on paper 30 x 24" I love Central Park. I've come to know it rather intimately during the last three "Covid" years. I wanted to try and capture the feeling of a fleeting season in my painting. I used simplicity and abbreviated line and color to evoke the scene. The duck happily paddling along was the icing on the cake. I have painted similar scenes at this spot in spring and winter. No matter what else happens, it's a comfort to know it all will return again the following year.

photography 13 x 9" I strive to go beyond a subject's appearance to uncover a deeper, more elusive truth. That truth is revealed to me more vividly through the camera lens than through the naked eye. I see textures, and layers, and the way objects interact in geometric patterns to form other creations. I see shadows and reflections and sometimes an incongruous fusion of these elements. What I see in the camera lens joins with the impressions stamped in my mind's eye, informing the images I create. photography 25 x 25" Worn by a variety of cultures in Africa, antiquity documents the wearing of Locs or Dreadlocks and braids back to 3000 BC in the Sahara Desert. Dreadlocks are worn for many reasons including religious/spiritual beliefs, rites of passage, ethnic pride, the rejection of capitalism and colonialism. The Crown Act, first signed into law in California in 2019, now law in 24 states including Texas, prohibits the denial of employment and educational opportunities based upon natural hair texture or style. Texas continues to draw national attention as it denies educational opportunites to students with Locs (protected under the Crown Act). The Crown Act has failed to pass the US Congress twice.

photograph 26 x 26 x 1.5" Inspired by Andy Warhol, the range of expressions in this quad was captured through conversation while exploring the idea, What is Female? I would offer that the best version of ourselves is not chromosomal assignment, but an enlightened combination of the feminine and masculine traits that we all possess, which are clearly visible in our expressions, and shared in our daily interactions with one another.

acrylic 23.5 x 31"How to depict the illusive concept of sin? Choosing an apple strongly symbolized this religious meaning, but how to render spirituality, devoid of gravity, was the challenge. The painting method implemented was to paint a setting of various deep blues pushing space forward and back. The wispy leaf-like lines created movement and visually flowed across the canvas implying spirit. The apple, in its purest form and color, is braced by 2 branches and created a stillness... Now the apple is ready to be picked.

mica rock, fiber and molding paste, acrylics on wood cradle board 12 x 16 x 2" My inspiration came from challenging myself using unusual materials that I already had and a subject that I’ve never selected before. Working on a wooden cradle board, I glued on thin transparent layers of mica rock. A small palette knife with fiber and molding pastes were used to create the textured feathers. Acrylic pants completed the bas relief painting. I surprised myself with the results because I did not know if the combination would work.

mixed media 20 x 20 x 1" Playfulness is a sneaky way to allow the audience the freedom to enjoy new ideas. I use humor and whimsy to create unexpected associations that people can recognize. Bringing their own unique experiences and personal connections to my art, they are delighted when they feel a particular artwork is speaking directly to them. The story is something they can personally relate to, just like I do. I particularly enjoy the look in the eyes of an observer when they realize they are seeing a familiar tale, something from their own life, sometimes even a memory. There is excited screaming and laughing and so much thanks. I get a lot of hugs! Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

watercolor & mixed media on paper 30 x 23" I am an abstract painter, and I work primarily in watercolors with mixed media elements on paper. I’m inspired by the interplay of colors, shapes, and uneven lines, and I love the fluid, unpredictable nature of watercolor paints. I work very intuitively: I always have a starting point - a particular color combination or focal point - but then I just go wherever inspiration leads me, often surprising myself! My work is very influenced by nature, and I find myself particularly drawn to loose rounded shapes, which have become a recurring motif in much of my work. I often include botanical elements in my artwork, most of which have deep personal significance for me - reminding me of cherished people and places in my life. Painting brings me peace, balance, and joy, and it helps me maintain an even keel in our uncertain times. acrylic and oil pastel on canvas 16 x 20" This piece is part of the Open to Interpretation Collection, which explores the ways in which we handle conflict and communicate (or don’t) with those around us - and the impact that has on our personal emotional landscapes. In a culture where many of us are too busy to actually look inward and be honest with ourselves, it is that much harder to be honest with each other. And whether with those closest to us or strangers - when we don’t communicate, we leave it open to interpretation. Acrylic 12 x 12 in. “Somewhere” was painted in my intuitive and expressive painting style. It is an exploration in color, texture, layering and abstract mark making. The painting is on a 12x12” wood panel, framed in a white frame. My goal is to help you see as much beauty in the world as I do, so everyone who comes in contact with my art feels just a little bit more alive - whether that's because of the vibrant, saturated colors, expressive movement, or because you can feel the emotion and energy embedded in my art.

Photography 11 x 14" Based in Hampton Bays on the East End of Long Island, I collect seashells and marine-life fragments from which I create small sculptures and abstract assemblies that form the basis of my photography. I am drawn to the soothing rhythms and repeating patterns of the design elements found in nature. I marvel at how their beauty endures, despite a tumultuous journey. My images try to capture that essence and share that feeling with others.

photography 20.5 x 19 x 1.25" In many ways, "Mussels on Tray" reflects the “lightbulb moment” in the development of my art form. It signifies the point in time during which I realized that the assemblies I was making from collected seashells and marine-life specimens, could be conveyed in photographs - still life’s that took on an almost painterly quality, highlighting the rhythm and repeating patterns found in nature. They twist and turn, nestled in one another, reflecting the force of movement that brought them to the shore, not unlike the force of movement that brought me to the full-time pursuit of creative expression – losing my daughter 13 years ago, when she crossed the street for a school bus in Los Angeles.

Oil 15 x 15" What began as a life painting session, The Chanteuse and the Nightingale evolved as a conceptual painting that recognizes the model, Mozelle Andrulot, and her talents as a jazz singer. With the loveliest sound of all song birds, the nightingale symbolizes Mozelle's marvelous jazz vocals. The distant view of low tide at dusk honors both the model’s first name, Hebrew for "drawn from the water,” and acknowledges that both the jazz chanteuse and the nightingale share their gift with us after the sun goes down.
