My artwork is a straightforward sharing of what I see in the world around me, whether it is my family and the traditions we share, or nature including rivers, lakes, rocks, and plants. Portrait work often captures a grandchild. Nature work is usually inspired by the lake area in northern Wisconsin where we have a family lake house, and by the gardens and trees of the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, or by public gardens I visit on trips. I want the viewer to see the beauty of those places, to smell the scent of flowers and hear the rush of a river depicted in my work. Wisteria and Hydrangea depicts plants at the Morton Arboretum.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Conjuration is the act of calling upon, invoking or summoning a spirit, ghosts, demons, gods or other supernatural beings by means of a magic ritual. The central figure is the powerful Conjuror. In the right hand the figure is holding a feather and in the left has captured one of the 7 sister stars of the Pleiades. The conjuror is surrounded by a golden halo and has a white eagle on the head. According to legends the feather will blow in the wind & carry prayers to the Creator evoking the spirits bringing rain & keeping harmful entities at bay. The white eagle connects to the spiritual side and is a sign of a spiritual teacher. I wanted this painting to be spiritually evocative.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

I am inspired by undulating forces of nature: the formation of rocks eroded by wind and water and the shapes of organic forms. My sculpture addresses the interior and exterior of form by abstracting movement, force and tension. I explore the thought process revealing multilevel reflections of my inner self and collaborations between nature and culture. As an artist one of my communicative functions is to create awareness and reflect concerns for the natural world. Human intervention with nature has caused tension. I believe that with awareness, there is hope. Collaboration between nature and culture can effectively illuminate and channel proactive thoughts and change.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Experiencing the vast rural spaces of unexplored lands of the Burren, County Clare, Ireland, I climbed upon the rocky limestone land, formed of great slabs of rock that were once the sea bed of an ocean millions of years ago. Dotted throughout that rocky surface I found ancient Neolithic monuments like the Poulnabrone Dolmen, one of Ireland’s most iconic and oldest dated megalithic archeological monuments, a portal tomb consisting of two large vertical stones standing on either side of an entrance capped with a massive sloping capstone.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

The composition for this painting was inspired by the view from my campsite at Buffalo Gap Campground, part of the Dakota Prairie National Grasslands, during a road trip in September 2020. The mood and quality of the sky and sunset, though, borrowed from every sacrifice I have made in life. Whether I realized it at the time or not, each of those sacrifices involved a kind of faith. Sometimes, often much later, that faith can seem so foolish -- if not designed to deceive. However, this painting does not connote anger at that cycle, but rather peace.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

As the saying goes "when you know better, you do better", and I've applied that philosophy to my paintings, many of which I've repainted/reclaimed and turned into something completely different. I'm the only one who knows what the underpainting looked like--and most of that gets covered up (as in this painting Dressed Up) with a combination of acrylic paint and stenciling. I never know what the finished piece will look like, and that is what keeps the process exciting and interesting for me. There is always more than meets the eye!   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Squaring the Circle- Structure is dancing with the intuitive, both are needed. The expression "squaring the circle" is sometimes used as a metaphor for trying to do the impossible. A women’s work is never done. Mindfulness is key. If you say that someone squares the circle, you mean that they bring together two things, which are normally thought to be so different that they cannot exist together. Mathematically, it has to do with irrational and rational numbers and mathematicians have been working on it since ancient Greece. A woman’s world today is complicated. The circle and spiral are in many ways more home than the square, but we live in a square world of houses and books and cities.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

No Tension is the beginning of a series around the idea of resilience. Wrapping, stitch, paint and quiet marks are all evidence of our sensitivity which contributes to our resilience.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

I find it fascinating how the light quality, colors and cloud formations dramatically change on a windy or stormy day. When photographing wildlife I look for motion and expression in my subjects. I often drive three hours or more to a wildlife area only to find the wildlife doesn’t cooperate! That was the case on the day I photographed this Great Blue Heron. The Heron personifies stoicism and resoluteness, as a gust of wind ruffles his feathers. His windswept feathers created the motion I needed to make the photo more engaging.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

The genesis of my piece titled Sunset Rays lies in a moment of serendipity driving along the highway. The sunlight pierced through the clouds in a manner that felt transcendent. Aware of the fleeting nature of such scenes, I was compelled to capture and preserve it as a painting. I find inspiration in the natural world, translating its essence into art using soft pastels. My creative process extends beyond simple observation; it involves capturing the vibrant interplay of colors, the flowing elegance of lines, and dynamic arrangement of shapes within the realm of light and shadow. Whether it's the ordinary or the extraordinary, I endeavor to encapsulate the ephemeral beauty I witness.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

This painting was prompted by my walks in southwest Florida this Spring, when the weather is perfect and color abounds. I enjoy getting lost in the tropical forests of Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and the Naples Botanical Gardens, often getting "caught in the nettles" and savoring the flora and wildlife of our region -- bobcats, the endangered FL panther, alligators, and wonderful birds. I journal my experiences, writing a verse as I paint out my impressions and memories of these ventures.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

In Breaking Through the Matrix, I explore the complexities of our conditioned perceptions and the struggle to break free from the confines of a familiar narrative. This mixed-media piece combines painting, texture, and symbolism to convey a profound narrative of liberation and restraint. At the heart of the artwork is a figure, painted in deep green tones, standing resolutely amidst the expanse of a tranquil lake. This figure represents the individual, immersed in the vastness of existence yet tethered to the constructs of their surroundings. The green hues symbolize growth, renewal, and the ever-present desire for liberation. Embedded within the artwork are delicate gemstones and chains.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Sun on Parkway Arch is one of a series of paintings made in 2022 to 2023 depicting the Henry Hudson Parkway, both within context of the surrounding park and river, and as a stand-alone structure. I was drawn to this particular perspective by the sunlight glancing off the top of the arch and the contrasting shadowed interior, which created a glorious range of warm and cool blues, greens and purples. The curves and lines also created an almost abstract image which I loved.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

"When I was young I remember my Mom talking about the Women's Rights Movement. Even as a child I understood that we all deserved to be treated equally so figured the movement would succeed. So, I focused on the need to protect the environment and animals. Half a century later, women are still treated as second class citizens struggling for our inherent rights and we are in the middle of an extinction crisis. What is to be done? One thing that can be done is to create Art that exposes the unbalanced way of thinking that drives inequality and the destruction of environment and wildlife." - Kathleen Zimmerman   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Transformation, connections, shadow and light are themes that I explore in my artistic practice. My work is constructed in layers that I keep apart allowing the shadows created by the change of light to become a vital part of the artwork. The shadows visually mingle with the two layers creating a labyrinthine image and revealing kaleidoscopic forms of interconnected microcosms. Strolleroptera is a word that I created combining English word "stroller" and the word "ptera" meaning "wings" in Greek.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

This piece draws its inspiration from the enchanting sounds of nature at night. Picture a captivating symphony orchestrated by the chorus of small creatures, a melodic masterpiece with no clear beginning or end. This harmonious composition sweeps everyone into a dance, casting a luminous glow upon the surroundings. In the heart of this auditory spectacle, I envisioned a diminutive creature perched delicately upon a leaf. With a magical touch, it plays an ethereal melody, weaving the nocturnal symphony into a mesmerizing tapestry of sound and light.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

I made this piece by standing in front of the canvas and tracing my body leaving out the head and limbs. This puts the focus on the torso and the reproductive organs making the identity the woman and her situation unknown. There is so much controversy about this part of a woman's body without giving consideration to who this individual is and what are her circumstances. Her body is beautiful and powerful and ultimately her own.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

I am a witness. All Polar and frozen landscapes are dominated by an absence that is in stark contrast to the lush landscapes of the rest of the planet. In this absence, I am inspired by the clarity andd color I have seen in my travels to Antarctica, Iceland, Alaska, and the High Arctic. Ice is so beautiful - even the ice caught by NASA on Mars. Through my paintings, I've become attentive to the splendid drama of my everyday world. I'm intrigued by both the natural and man-made world and our place as humans in it. 24 x 26" My work opens a platform for discussion on the topics of resilience, trauma and cultural displacement. I seek to bring awareness to the emotional baggage and the struggle that survivors have to conceal in daily life by exploring psychological connection to daily life environments. My large-scale oil paintings employ portraits of individuals behind masks, elements of wreckage and fragments of nostalgic interiors creating an intersection between reality and idealization, between opportunities and limitations, between grand and mundane. Somehow, presence and absence could exist separately and together in parallel. Traumatic life experiences such as childhood separation from family and from home, war, as well as my becoming a mother during the Covid-19 pandemic have created layers of fog over memories. In my studio practice I dissect, peel, slice, unveil and reorganize extreme experiences to make sense of the fragmented and the destroyed in search of a feeling of belonging.

7 x 7" I wonder what it means to make art at a time when it seems we humans are not up to maintaining the health of our beautiful planet and its creatures. What I know is that for me, making art is like being a therapist, and is like living life. Everything has a way of falling apart and then gathering together, making form out of the unformulated, continually layering and digging beneath the layers. The complexities of abstraction, color, line, and texture are the tools I employ in my passionate reach for exploration of the not yet imagined.

The transient and illusory is metaphorically suggested by the use of translucent drafting film as the drawing surface. Selected color partners with the graphite repeating and emphasizing the gestures and choreography. The horizontal linear repetition is grounding to the bursts of movement. The 'horizons' suggest a continued process leading us to another level of perception and the persistence of time while centering us in the present moment.
