Travel has always been one of my greatest sources of artistic inspiration, and the colorful streets of Cartagena offered endless opportunities to discover unexpected beauty. This doorway immediately caught my attention with its striking combination of deep purple against a weathered blue wall. The worn plaster, textured steps, and vibrant colors created a composition I knew would translate beautifully into batik.
The layering of wax and dye on silk allowed me to capture the rich colors and aged surfaces while preserving the softness and luminosity unique to the batik process. Every layer added depth, much like the layers of history found throughout Cartagena’s colonial.
