  • Sadako Sasaki (Full Flower Moon, Hiroshima, 1955)
collage w/ hand-cut rice paper, quilt scraps, ink
    Size: 13 x 10
Sadako Sasaki was a Japanese girl who became a victim of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States. She was two years of age when the bombs were dropped and was severely irradiated. She survived for another ten years, becoming one of the most widely known hibakusha -- a Japanese term meaning "bomb affected person". She is remembered through the story of more that one thousand paper origami cranes that she folded before her death of radiation induced leukemia at age twelve on October 25, 1955. After her death, Sadako's body was examined by the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) for research on the effects of the atomic bomb on the human body, before she was cremated and laid to rest. Sasaki has become a leading symbol of the effects of nuclear war and has become an international symbol for peace.

Sadako Sasaki was a Japanese girl who was born in Yamaguchi, Japan. When she was two years old, she was at home about one mile away from ground zero, when the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Sadako was blown out of the window and her mother ran outside to find her, suspecting she may be dead, but instead found her two-year-old daughter alive with no apparent injuries. While they were fleeing the atomic blast, Sadako and her mother were caught in black rain. She survived for another ten years, becoming one of the most widely known "hibakusha" -- a Japanese term meaning "bomb-affected person" and later died of malignant lymph gland leukemia in 1955.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Sharks have been on this planet for over 400 million years and have survived multiple mass extinctions, Yet, they never evolved a swim bladder and so must swim constantly. I wanted to paint a shark out of its element. Baking in the desert under the beam of a spotlight.

  • Still Life: Green and Orange Study
    oil on canvas
Size: 18 x 24 I am constantly hoarding; filling my studio with empty plastic bottles and discarded packaging. I commemorate these objects through painting before I let them go. My work investigates consumerism, environmentalism, and sentimentality under the framework of Western still-life painting traditions. However, I reach for formal haphazardness, letting my eyes wander around the dark, messy corners of my studio until they land naturally on interesting moments. I then zoom in and out of this potential composition, not moving anything but rather adjusting my own body’s placement in relation to what is already there. I transform candy wrappers and tabletops into odd, illogical spaces. The result is a traffic jam of bottles and forgotten Post-It notes, rendered almost unintelligible. I paint from life in oil paint, experimenting with colorful lighting. Though I am looking intensely at the tableau set before me, I am an unreliable narrator, creating visual puzzles and selective realities. • oil, metal leaf, and waxed thread on canvas 19.25 x 15.25 x 1.25" "Avocado Selfie" is not a self-portrait in the traditional sense, but it is an exploration of my current visual interests set against the backdrop of my own facial features. In the piece, I explore the tension between the representational and the abstract; the flat expanses against modeled forms. I am inspired by medieval European aesthetics and my background in theater, which influenced my color and material choices and the decision to stitch thread throughout the piece.

  • Koi Fish: Where's Dinner Pastel on Paper Size: 11 x 14 I am a modernist, realist, figurative painter, and I love to paint scenes from my travels and everyday life which tell a story. I take a subject which I find beautiful or interesting, and paint it in a way that allows the viewer to see it realistically for what it is, with a touch of mystery or style added to emphasize the other forces going on below the surface. With oils, I accomplish this by using an acrylic underpainting, which I allow to show through in places. In soft pastels, I use watercolor, inks, or alcohol washes for the underpainting. For example in “Three Wise Men”, I used a multicolored geometric pattern as an underpainting to give the viewer an added perspective. I love to paint my stories, and my goal is to have the viewer enter my world and share in my experiences. • oil on canvas 30 x 30 x 1.5" This painting, like many other of my paintings conveys a visceral experience of a place, rather than describing its likeness. The painting itself evolves from a synthesis of memory, imagination and the process of painting itself. Natural elements are expanded or reduced as I layer on glazes of color. The layered veils of color reflect a fragile luminous quality.

  • acrylic & oil paint on canvas 48 x 48 x 1.5"
Fire and Ice is a plea for us to recognize our profound interconnection with all life on earth, the impact of humanity's disconnection from the natural world and from each other. It offers solace and a recognition of the inherent beauty of our natural world even as It highlights the need to address this existential challenge. My intention is for Fire and Ice to be part of the great web of healing. I invite you to engage with the painting, lose yourself in its details, meditate on its meanings, and to carry those messages into your daily lives.

  • oil on canvas 30 x 30 x 1.5" Inspired by my daily walks in the nearby woods with my dog, I sought to capture my experience of the natural world through a colorful and dynamic composition. What sets Giverny Reflections apart is the overall patterning of colored marks, created through vigorous brush strokes.Someone told me that the intermingling blues, reds, greens, and yellows reminded her of Giverny. The sense of movement and depth, around the portion that suggests reflection and possibly water surrounded by foliage-like forms on either side, reminded her of standing in the garden there. So despite the fact that the inspiration came from my local walks I adopted the reference to that beautiful garden in France.

  • I Dreamt I Was a Bird but I Could Not Fly_#3 Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas Size of Piece: 36 x 12 There are times I struggle with depression. It's often a result of chronic physical pain from arthritis and from migraines...as well as from the maddening sounds of my tinnitus. Therefore, I turn to my Art as my primary emotional therapy. In my third painting, from my series "I Dreamt I Was A Bird But I Could Not Fly", I created a visual metaphor of my physical pain. Once I felt boundless, soaring like a fearless hawk; only to eventually have my wings clipped... entwining & binding me to the ground. In "Escape into My Garden" I use the tactile elements of molded paper, words & flowers from my own garden, to represent the therapeutic physicality in processing my feelings in my personal Art Therapy. Meanwhile, the visual of a person climbing inside this magnificent flower best expresses the Emotional Escapism & happiness that's often derived from 'Garden Therapy'. "Escape into my World" incorporates a myriad of elements which have brought joy to my life: My art as my visual Storytelling of our world & our human condition. As a woman who loves looking at the stars, wondering how we fit within our vast universe, while spending time in, on or around water, appreciating how precious our Earth’s water really is. And I am also a musician who has found that playing flute has gifted me friendships (over many decades) with like-minded creative musical souls...most of whom also share a love for creating art. acrylic with sanded & tinted gesso w/ paint skins
    Size: 24 x 24
This is from my series called "Textures in Storytelling". It is symbolic of my visit to Casares, Spain. A beautiful white town built into the mountainous terrain. But this didn't deter the children who lived there from playing. They were laughing & kicking & playing with balls; all the while running up and down these steep paved streets which came together at the base of each road in the town's center square. Taken is the story of those whose lives have been turned to chaos in minutes. Those who were taken hostage, kidnapped or sold into slavery…. abused and the innocence of their youth is destroyed at the hands of their captors. They feel isolated and forgotten and... even if they want to cry out loud...they are too terrified to make a sound. I hear your cries in my mind... and I want the rest of the world to see it.

  • Acrylics & Magnetic Pigments 48 x 48 x 1.5"
  • acrylic 24 x 24 x 1.5" "I Wanna Scream" for those who cannot. For the women whose right to speak up for themselves is constantly suppressed. For the journalists who cannot speak about a government's corruptions and/or atrocities without threat of imprisonment or physical retaliation against those they love. For the physically and emotionally abused who cannot cry for help for fear of what might happen to them. For the doctors who are threatened by their own government if they administer the care that their female patients so desperately seek. Art has always been an echo of the artist's world and of his time. And our present world has too many voices being muted. Too much silence when we need to scream!

The piece evolved into a diptych due to a printing error which created a reverse image.. The diptych further strengthens the piece.

  • U.S. Constitution on a knot Sculpture: Carrara marble and granite Size of Piece: 36 x 22 x 26"

Political parties in the United States are fighting against each other and can’t agree on anything. Everyone is in a knot. So I decided to make a literal knot out of the Constitution, held up with a carving of my hands. My hands, my statement. - Robin Antar “U.S. Constitution in a Knot” is a symbolic piece featuring the U.S. Constitution as a document, with all seven articles, tied into a knot, representing the complexities and challenges within the nation's principles. The intertwined form reflects current turmoil, while intricately detailed hands symbolize individual responsibility and the struggle to uphold these values. The sculpture rests on a pile of rough granite chips, highlighting themes of fragmentation and disarray, contrasting with the smooth marble. Overall, it serves as a poignant commentary on the chaotic state of the nation, embodying both despair and determination in the effort to maintain important values amidst societal conflict.

  • printmaking 23 x 14 x 2"
Recently, I've been working on collographs. A collagraph is a print that is made from a collage of various materials that are glued together on cardboard, metal, or a hardboard plate. Texture can also be created by gouging or cutting into the board. It is then inked as either an intaglio or relief then run through the printing press with dampened paper on top. I enjoy this technique as it gives me the freedom to experiment with different materials and textures. I also work with decorative papers as an added element. It is also a departure from my more realistic linocuts, allowing me to explore abstract compositions.

  • acrylic on stretched canvas 26 x 24 x 1.5" I paint abstract scenes of women, drawing on evocative color palettes to explore themes of identity, beauty, and power. Each painting is a self-portrait of my own emotional experience, emerging from roles as a mother, daughter, friend, and psychotherapist. In this piece, the woman appears to be experiencing a profoundly personal moment as she melds into an organic, ethereal landscape, enveloped in vibrant hues of pink, yellow, and orange.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylic on stretched canvas 30 x 24 x 1.5" My artwork features a vibrant color palette, body language, and movement in abstract scenes of women. As I apply layers of charcoal and acrylic paint, figures are revealed and their stories emerge. My inspiration is rooted in my work as a somatic psychotherapist. It was a privilege to co-create healing spaces with women. as their narratives unfolded and we processed them together. These deeply personal moments and rich interior worlds, theirs and mine, are an ongoing theme in my paintings.

  • Tapestry in Cerulean Blue Mixed Media Acrylic Size: 14 x 11 I consider myself an abstract intuitive painter. Adding one layer at a time. I develop my style using color coordination and lines.and shapes. I also use geometric pieces, sometimes in the form of painted paper, to add form and dimension. My blank canvas begins without preconceived notions which allows my instincts and emotions to guide me. This intuitive style encourages me to use creative thinking and experimentation to expand the process. My imagination helps shape my unique artistic vision. This process results in one-of-a-kind pieces allowing the viewer to trust their instincts and letting their emotions guide their appreciation. I began years ago as a landscape painter.  Over time I transitioned into abstraction. I still consider myself a landscape painter but focusing more the abstract components of nature. My work explores patterns using aerial views of landscapes, i.e. coastlines, marshes, forests and rivers.  I use symmetrical, asymmetrical, and organic shapes that I see around me.  I am influenced by indigenous peoples, Japanese wood block prints and the work of Gustav Klimt.  I don't sketch my ideas first but paint directly onto the canvas and create as I go along, Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
