Oil 10 x 10" There’s no denying the allure of fresh warm peaches with their soft fuzz and intoxicating summer scent. These Georgia beauties were brought home as a special treat by my daughter. She had stopped at a fruit stand outside of Savannah, which just happened to be in the parking lot of a “gentlemen’s” club named Temptations. We had a good laugh when I chose the title, Summer Temptations, a little inside joke between us.

acrylic 12 x 12" My paintings explore texture and, gesture, and are about the memories and emotions that are evoked in the process. They suggest a sense of place, of peace, of elements of the natural world. Inspiration comes from everywhere: feelings, poetry, nature, things that take my breath away. These are tucked away into a kind of reservoir, echoes of them surfacing later in my paintings Starting with random marks and responding to them intuitively, I approach them with a sense of play, experimentation and an exploration of the materials, as much as an emotional response to the evolving painting. I work in acrylics, encaustics and oil & cold wax and mixed media, all involved with building layers and working back into them, scraping and dissolving to expose what lies beneath. For me, it is all about the process: finding a sense of order, of refuge and letting go; becoming immersed in the moment and the physicality of engaging the surface. A visual energy emerges flowing through the layers, creating depth and an intimate space that invites exploration. relief print with chine-colle 11 x 14 x 1" This is a view from my studio building, using real and imagined colors. I constructed the collagraph plate with multiple layers of cardboard and string. Initially conceived as a print in black and white, I am inspired to add color using chine-colle. In this piece I roll out the ink first, apply glue to each piece of colored paper, then place the individual papers colored side down on the inked plate. The print paper is then placed on top of the plate, where the ink will now transfer to the colored papers, and the colored papers will adhere to the print paper. I hand rub, and finally pull the print from the plate. I am having so much fun playing with a variety of color combinations!

oil on canvas 20 x 16 x 2" I am a Philadelphia based artist who loves color! I use painting to express my interest in people and how they fit into their environment. Everyday experiences interest me the most. In this oil painting, I focus on 3 brothers enjoying the fading afternoon sun of the spring shoreline. They are comfortable being together, yet each of the boys are lost in their own world. My process begins by taking a photo with my phone, and rendering the lines, shapes and values with white and black charcoal on gray paper. Next, I choose the size of the canvas and compose the piece using yellow ochre watercolor. Finally, I use a variety of brushes to apply layers of oil paint to complete the image.

printmaking 8 x 8" Universe Series uses a variety of animals to represent life as they ponder the latest scientific theories concerning the Universe. These playful explorations look toward space and at humankinds' reaction to it. Who hasn't wondered what it would be like to live in the caves of Mars, thought about when we might be drawn into the black hole that keeps our galaxy together, or seen heaven when we look up at the stars? This work of art is a serigraph, or more commonly known as a silkscreen print. It is a hand-made, small-edition print, that uses my graphite drawing as its basis, and is an original work of art. What makes serigraphy the perfect printmaking method for my art, is I can retain areas of pure white paper, capture the tonality of my drawings, and place blocks of intense color that either overlaps part of the image, or lightly kisses the edge of image. Serigraphy is a modern printmaking method with a very old history. Stencil-based, hand-made prints originated during the tenth century in China. They made their first appearance in Europe around the 18th century and are used throughout the world today. This mode of printmaking has evolved over time, so that Modern artists such as Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall, Pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Peter Max, and Contemporary artists including me, have found it an attractive medium for the creation of fine art. serigraph (silkscreen) 10 x 8" Landscape series is composed of two serigraphs that deal with private and public worlds. Inner Landscape demonstrates how little we really know about another living being's inner life. It can be healthy and growing like a forest, as in this artwork, or something entirely different. Outer Landscape demonstrates how much we can guess about another living being just from their outer appearances. That being said, appearances can be deceiving and there may be important aspects of personality that are hidden from view.
