  • Oil and Gold Leaf on Panel Bittersweet Size: 36 x 24 Framed Size: 36.5 x 24.5 The Bittersweet flower has been known to represent truth, persistence and resilience. The truth often being bittersweet. In this painting the woman holds the (flower of) truth and fights off the chaos in the world as represented by the geese with 'truth'. I feel truth is hard to come by and expensive today to verify, but is essential to shifting the balance of good/evil in the world towards good. Truth gives us strength and power even though it may be much smaller than the evil it fights. Geese for me represent chaos and are a local resident of my studio. I composed the image after the conception of the idea. The figure is an invention and is not a portrait of anyone in particular. • oil on oil primed linen 29.75 x 26 x 1"
Inspired by art history's paintings of artists at their easels, I made this painting of the beginning of the process of awaiting an idea or inspiration for a painting. This part of the process is magical to me and perhaps the most difficult of going from idea to committing to creating a painting of that concept. For me the process begins by turning inward.

  • oil on oil primed linen
    32 x 28"
These paintings are inspired by my interactions with my grandchildren for a collection of work focusing predominantly on my life as a grandparent. This is often not discussed in the art world but is a role many of us play in our lives. I am dedicating a collection of paintings to this inspiration. Also included here is family life, and a reflection on pivotal life changing decisions we all make.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • oil on oil primed linen 40 x 30 x 2" Inspired by a recurring dream, I am interested in past experiences and how they mold and form who we become. Childhood memories are often the source of meaning and inspiration for my work. I use a shallow space and multiple perspectives in my compositions, working partly from life and partly imagination. All imagery has a specific meaning to me personally but I do not wish to embed a narrative in the painting. The inspiration serves only as an excuse to make the painting.

  • painted foundry molds & found materials 28.5 x 17.5 x 6"
My palette of found objects and foundry molds requires being tactile, playful, and using chance and intentional placement to create anthropomorphic totems. As I create my work, I let the shapes and objects guide me. The composition comes first but with constant editing, a theme emerges. I find meaning in these found objects and detritus from the past. By reimagining their purpose and giving them personalities, I look to recast their history and for the viewer to find kinship in these haunting shapeshifters. Freed from their destiny as trash, these curious objects assume new identities and evocation of something soulful.

    36 x 24"
Strong art is a reflection of the time in which it was created. I consider myself fortunate to be able to dig deeply into my displeasure and confusion with society's present chaos and place my feelings into a cohesive orderly and balanced composition. Listening to current music as I work gives me even more substance for expression.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

A mind escape...from the chaos of everyday life. There is no stress in my studio. I am free and oh so happy to fly into the mindset of nothing but my dancing brush.

  • watercolor 24 x 24 x 1" Lavender Square is one of the pieces in my petal series, which all started with a floral arrangement. Photographing it up close, I discovered how the slightest movement of the camera created an entirely new composition. I was fascinated by the amazing color and shape of each petal. This discovery marked the beginning of a floral journey, starting in acrylic, then venturing into oil and watercolor. My background is in graphic design where I developed a bold approach to color and form. Painting shape by shape, I strive to make each one beautifully blended, and build the final painting like a puzzle, balancing color and texture as I go.

  • Fiber Art 15 x 15" Creating The Great Divide was a fusion of my passion for mixed media, collage and meditative stitching. My process was quite intuitive, beginning with painted cheesecloth fabric and a palette of neutrals, blues and greens in fabric and a gel print on rice paper. After creating my collage, I began to stitch with thread. Not only did my stitching act as the “glue” for my collage, but it created mark making and texture. The strong cork fabric diagonal provided me with the title, The Great Divide.

  • Oil on canvas 24 x 24 x 1.5 in.   When my mother passed away I found I couldn't continue painting as usual and painted only her death for six months, always in an expressionist manner. At first the works were colorful, even cheery; next a beautiful waterfall of tears; and finally, my entry "Mourning Aiti," a somber, and as it happens, feminine, design.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • mixed media collage & fiber 36 x 28"
My work focuses on exploring the concept of one's soul journey and the mythic idea of one’s daimon, or spiritual companion, as described by Plato. Guided by my daemon, I undertook a month-long residency in Ireland. While exploring the countryside, I stumbled upon "The Greenville Rookery" and was captivated by the sight of hundreds of rooks building nests. Their energy and spirit became intertwined with my artmaking, leaving a lasting impression on my subconscious.

  • collage
27 x 26 x 1" This collaged wall hanging is a continuation of my previous work about soul guardians. In my vision, these protectors carry our life's narrative in boat-like vessels where they rest while we proceed on our one true path. The title is inspired by a quote from Joseph Campbell.

  • Collage 8 x 6" The idea of one's guardian is near and dear to me. I am comforted by the notion that there is someone or something that keeps an eye out for all of us and keeps us from harm. I often refer to these guardians as the "grandmothers", emanating from our female relatives and ancestors who came before us and acting as a collective blanket of safety. Collaged from old textiles and other bits of my own papers and canvas. The edges are embellished with intricate designs inspired by Slavic Pysanky eggs.

  • collage 40 x 50" I am fascinated by the mythic concept of one’s daimon, or spiritual companion. According to Plato, the daimon acts as a carrier of our destiny. I refer to these companions as “the Grandmothers” and wonder how do they manage? Where do they reside? How do they carry such an important weight both physically and emotionally? While softly swinging in my hammock, the feeling of a vessel gliding effortlessly through the cosmos came to me. These boat-like vehicles developed into soul sleds. They are the agent from which the Grandmothers run the show and watch over us. Exploring the ideas of one's soul journey is my work's focus.

Only 1 in 178 girls are diagnosed with Autism. I discussed with the mother, of the child pictured in this quilt, what she loves, her favorite colors, and composed artwork to represent her. • oil & cold wax on panel 24 x 30 x 1.5"
Experimentation is at the core of my artistic practice. I constantly push the boundaries of traditional oil painting techniques, seeking new ways to express my vision and engage with the materials. Through the exploration of color, texture, and complex layering processes utilizing oil paint and cold wax, I open myself up to unexpected outcomes and exciting discoveries. Each layer holds traces of the artistic process, revealing the history and evolution of the piece. I believe that through the accumulation of layers, the artwork gains a sense of richness and storytelling, inviting the viewer to explore the hidden narratives within.

  • Works on Paper Farewell to the Goddess 16 x 16 in. I love the meditative nature of creating patterns and collages using drawing, carving, stamping and mixing media. Most of the imagery is pieced together from my sun-drenched memories of my adolescent years spent in India. This piece is about the celebration of the Goddess Durga. In Kolkata, every year in October, for 7 days, the city comes alive with hundreds of installation art pieces dedicated to the goddess depicting her in various creative ways. After seven days, the structures come down and the Durga idols are thrown into the river, symbolizing her return home, The city then goes back to its normal hustle and bustle. Months later the eroding idols can be found tossed aside. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

I took out my camera and telephoto lens and captured the solitude of this shed. I wondered about its history and the stories it could tell. The architecture, though simple, had a charm and elegance in its design. The builder had a sense of detail, proportion and functionality. The structure was modest but orderly, with a clear path leading to the door. Would you like to enter? • photography 28 x 17 x 1.5" The thrill of speed, spray, and splash during a boating adventure are my favorite ways to spend a day. Equipped with my Nikon and a telephoto lens, I sat aft observing the ensigns' flow and flutter. I favor a telephoto lens for its ability to draw viewers into the scene, eliciting a reflective response to the imagery. This vision was captured aboard "Irish" off Camden, Maine, in West Penobscot Bay. Being on a US-flagged vessel gives me a profound sense of security. I aim to search for images that convey significant symbols reflective of how and where I live. The clarity of bright days contributes to fulfilling my artistic pursuit of simplicity, symbolism, and the evocation of thought.

I am always inspired by my onetime hometown of Kailua, Hawaii. I feel a profound connection to the island. The smells, breezes, colors, ocean and warm, wonderful people inspire me. It is not about making a pretty picture, it is about spiritual connection on a deep level. I have experienced healing there after devastating losses. It always fills me up, even when I didn't realize I was empty. My hope is to move the viewer in some way.

  • diptyque acrylic painting on canvas with 3D elements 24 x 40 x 2" My mixed media work is about the memory and feeling of joy. During recent health challenges (a mastectomy, chemo and radiation), I waited for 33 days for my oncology radiation treatments in a beige space without windows or artwork. After recovering, I received some paintings from a show in Connecticut. I offered to hang my pieces in the radiation oncology space. Most of my work is large and tropical in theme (we lived in Hawaii for many years), but it also includes pieces inspired from our world travels. I have received many letters, emails and comments from patients and staff alike as to how much better they feel in the space. It is a testament to the power of art and of giving back.

I was drawn in by the peaceful expression of this man and was inspired to capture this mood on paper. I added a few final touches in white pencil.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
