oil & oil pastel 24 x 20 x 1.5" Flowers of Cost Rica #3 draws inspiration from the captivating allure of Costa Rica's rain forest. Exploring the vibrant beauty of its flora, I was enthralled by kaleidoscope of colors and the mesmerizing shapers. I tried to capture the essence of these unique blossoms, to celebrate how magnificent they are.I created 3 paintings that can be viewed as a triptych or separately. Stoneware 14 x 11 x 6"This entry contains a union of opposites of organic and non-organic nature, growth and rigidity, biomorphic shape and rough texture, presence and absence of color, fragility and visual sturdiness of the material. Bounded, the inflexible, colorless, yet intricate organic form resembles a crouched figure from the classical era.

ceramic 12 x 12 x 9" The family unit is a medium between personal and social realms. Family is a medium where individual growth occurs in conjunction with interrelationships. It is a space of safety, acceptance, and extreme challenges to harmonize with one another. It is a golden middle between the eternal and the daily. A spirit of protection mediates a family. There are also daemons in the same media, to confuse, and misguide family members, to test their loyalty and their love. Finding a golden ratio among all family members while negotiating individual integrity is a happy medium. In the English language, the word medium has about 7 meanings, all of which can be seen as relevant to the concept of Family.

Chromatic Dawnsculpture: plexiglass/woodSize: 16 x 16 x 2I am interested in the expression of color and reflections as a language. The transparent nature of plexiglass makes it possible to create visual statements of color and hue that are not available with other materials. My work explores the nature of individual colors and their interaction and reflections. The composite of the individual components creates a distinctive visual statement. Much of my work has been influenced by the beauty of the sunrises and sunsets on Long Island. My work is meant to be joyous and celebratory.

plexiglass/wood 12 x 12 x 2" Color and reflected light have long been my areas of interest. Creating abstract sculpture using Plexiglas offers a significant ability to produce work with unique colors. Each sculpture alters when viewed from different vantage points. My work explores the abstract interaction of individual colors overlapped or set next to each other to produce a variety of tones and hues. The composite of all the individual components creates a distinctive visual statement. The sculptures are sensitive and meditative. They celebratory and joyful.

Sakura Skyacrylic on cradleboardSize: 12 x 12Sakura Sky pays homage to the brilliant—yet delicately nuanced—colors of Japan’s cherry blossoms, the graceful and continuous movement of their slender tree limbs and the sky that encompasses them in rich, complimentary hues.

acrylic on cradleboard 13.25 x 13.25" Color and experimentation are my muses. The materials for this piece—principally palette skins with complementary abstractions—require a process of trial and error. A strong design is central to success! Anxiety caused by traversing real and imagined worlds is the burden of my process. Serendipity, its gift!

acrylic on canvas 20 x 20 x 1.5" Bloom is focused in the photosynthesis of planktons and the journey this species go through yearly from the Atlantic to the Arctic. I was very intrigued to find this natural phenomenon and see the similarities to my work style. I intentionally mimicked the density of the reproduction of plankton, which their presence changes the color of the water in which they live, leaving a colorful trail in the ocean. My approach is very intuitive; through the use of washed acrylics aligned around earthy colors, I create space-contained systems driven by shapes, layers, patterns and textures to represent the alge bloom. bronze 15 x 8 x 8" When my son did communion I noticed the altar boy standing in the corner. I was so inspired by all the young children, the beautiful innocence, the trust they give and the dedication given to join and understand tradition. Children are truly an empty vessel. I find it so ironic that we think we can teach and fill this vessel, when this emptiness is something we should all learn from. When I am able to listen and learn, when I harbor empathy and understanding deep within my soul, I feel like I can understand the child I saw standing in the shadows of the church, with all his earnestness.

sculpture 11 x 9 x 11" It is often hard to appreciate the seasons of life, the aging, the changing, the growing, the adapting, and the coping. But the pain disappears when I remember there is a reason for each season, and it is merely so we can get to the next - Winter is here in hibernation; thinking and breathing; storing energy; coiling it up for the destined release. Sculpture 9.5 x 11 x 11"Little Madison came to model for me but she was very shy and didn't know what pose to take. I asked her what she did for fun and she said she loved to draw. I said, "Me too! Would you like to use my drawing pencils and paper and make some drawings for me?" For over two hours she sat and drew, while I created this little sculpture. Her “Purple Shoes” led me to believe that deep inside this shy little girl, there was a big artist inside.

Reading by the Seashore Acrylic/Canvas Size of Piece: 16 x 20
Girl by the Seashore was painted from imagination, another way I work. Sometimes, I paint from imagination directly, with maybe only a thought to where the work will go, but more often, and here, the composition is derived from a pencil drawing, originally from imagination I which made quite a few years ago and still love. I draw a lot. Here, I worked to get the light the way I wanted it.

mixed media 13.5 x 7" Connected/Disconnected Quote: ‘He stared at his phone like it was a magic eight ball. And on that day in a matter of seconds Mr. Harrigan predicted the future. The future of the internet, the future of the news, of fake news, social media, of pay walls and spam, of Julian Assange and Edward Snowdon and the world.’ John Lee Hancock, from the movie adaptation of Mr. Harrigans Phone and a novella of the same title by Stephen King. We all now stand heads bent paying homage to the world in our hands, ignoring all the rest of the world around us. pastel 19 x 23"To find inspiration for painting, I sometimes get off the pavement and take the roads less traveled in the Midwest. This is a painting that resulted from my trip one early morning last Fall. I couldn't see well enough to determine if a deer was really off in the distance that morning, but something in the field looked like the form of a deer. I really enjoy capturing the natural beauty of the Midwest landscape to share with viewers--especially when the morning light creates such vibrant color for a painter to enjoy.

Within Darkness Size: 16 x 16 x 0 Framed Size: 17 x 17 x 0 As my body ages and time takes its toll, I am still that being that is strong in spirit and has hidden crevices and potential for growth. As a female, I have a strength that is within my being. Time has not taken that away from me. My floral entity is a metaphor for what it means to me to be female- the hidden beauty, the unfolding forms that are under my surface. I am more than what you see - I am a being that is strong and resilient in spirit. This strength is how I navigate living-the challenges of time. Within is painting that reflects this strength. oil on canvas/seed beads 24 x 24" Night Cover is from a body of work that is considering barriers. I am using stone walls as a metaphor for exclusion and inclusion. I ask the viewer to consider where one is positioned in relation to the wall -is one included or is one excluded? The painting is oil on canvas with the seed beads hand laid around the image. The beads are in the background but they come forward creating a visual tension-a tension that is reflected in the notion of walls/barriers.

Taiyoacrylic on canvasSize: 48 x 36I wanted to find a way to give people hope and the Japanese culture and Spirituality have always inspired me. The sun (Taiyo) in the Japanese culture is a symbol of life, light and the vital force that sustains all living things. It also symbolizes hope, renewal and new beginnings. I incorporated modern and ancient textile patterns to illustrate the opportunity we have to learn from our past and use that knowledge to transform our future.

painted steel wire on wood panel 23 x 26 x 2"My art depicts a broad and embracing perspective of human closeness to allow viewers' imaginations to respond in as open a way as possible. My parents suffered extreme early traumas that left them fearful of others. Their influence was a huge obstacle for me to overcome. As a result, I am sensitive to the damage to people, communities, and nations when fear prevents us from finding trust through recognition of our similarities and negotiation of our differences.

painted steel wire on wood panel 17 x 12 x 1" My art is about closeness and the play of tensions that exist in our relationships. It has always centered the human figure, growing from single-figure studies to the portrayal of interacting groups. It directly reflects how deeply a desire for closeness has always existed in me. My parents suffered extreme early traumas, leaving them fearful of exploitation by strangers and uncomfortable in communities. As a result, I am extremely sensitive to the damage to people, communities, and nations when we are not able to become close and find trust through recognition of our similarities and negotiation of our differences. clay 2 x 3 x 5" How can someone shoot a child? This is a young boy shielding a little girl in her classroom. I envision these two huddling next to a wall displaying preschool art, by an overturned desk, and away from a door. As much as he tries to protect her, he cannot. Wearing her favorite dress and he, his favorite hat and hoodie, their day began as any other. Unlike my other work, sculpting this was an emotional challenge that brought tears to my eyes until I had to stop. How do we make it stop?
