silicone, rainwater, & acrylic paints onto an indigo background 60 x 48 x 2" While exhibiting my paintings in Italy in 2018, I traveled by car to Reggio, Calabria, the home of my grandparents. I visited many museums along the way, and discovered that mermaids were prevalent in Italian lore and art. They reminded me of the Celtic selkies, and the Native American myth of Sedna. I instilled the wonder, joy, and hope I absorbed from their stories into She Harbors the Sea.

acrylic 20 x 16" Bold hydrangeas always attract my attention. For this painting, I was inspired by dappled late afternoon sunlight falling among hydrangea blooms. Warm colors capture the fleeting late summer sun. Already a few leaves gather at the base of the steps, suggesting the change of seasons. The iconic green striped awnings and door hark back many decades, adding a sense of timelessness to this cottage near Alexandria Bay, New York. On a whim, I added a single hydrangea peeking from the window on the left to balance the composition and suggest the owner's touch.

Into the Blue Nightscape Mixed Pastel/ Acrylics, Pencil Size of Piece: 9.75 x 6.5 I set a challenge for myself –my foray into COLOR language. Explore its symbolic memory-stories told with color/texture/value. Paint–THEN read the story. A HAZY landscape- going in or leaving all behind? Dawn or dusk? A middle vertical space parting- a door to a Soft Blue life beyond? Anchored by a bold horizontal Yellow (a barrier to overcome?) A Blue and Yellow contradiction ! Below- Airy Blue-Green path detouring to the right. Above- hovering Blue/Magenta- weighting on our will to move forward? oil on canvas 18 x 24 x 1" Although the viewpoint of this painting is at a slightly elevated angle, the title alludes to the need to consider the landscape from above, looking straight down. These are eyes that look at the human viewer askew but look up at the heavens with no distortion.

Works on Paper 20 x 16 x .50 in. My art is inspired by the 19th-century Fontainebleau painters and their up-close sous-bois perspective. I focus on the intricate details of natural textures, colors, and diverse life in the undergrowth of Florida's native trees. My contemporary up-close viewpoint is rooted in exploring light and shadow within monotype prints, plaster sculptures, and paintings. Layers of additive and reductive color are carved with mark-making tools to create textures that vibrate between contemporary, impressionism, and abstractionism, forming an interdependent relationship with the past and present. Monotype 36 x 24.74 x .75 in. The forest, for me, is more than just a place. It's a sanctuary, a source of inspiration, and a canvas for my art. It's where I slow down and appreciate the gifts of nature, experience serenity, and seek healing. This deep connection to nature is the driving force behind my work. It reflects life's journeys as an artist, a mother, and my role as a human in the natural world. My art vibrates with this, communicating with mark=making rooted in impressionism and abstractionism, forming a symbiotic relationship with the past and present with the joy of raising children and sadness of leaving the nest. The works are a dance of light and hope that I found in change and share with the viewer. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

Gulf Tide Monotype on Printmaking Paper Size of Piece: 18 x 24
My art is a vibrant celebration of nature's dynamic energy, inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of Naples, Florida. During a morning walk, I was captivated by the shimmering sunlight kissing the horizon, the playful splashes of fish beneath the surface, and the gentle sway of seagrass on coral as it danced to the rhythm of each tidal wave. Through the expressive medium of Monotype and impressionistic mark-making, I endeavored to capture the gulf's movement and vitality—including its intense color palette and abundant life below reaching upward to the sunlight.

inked plexi plates, printed on rives bfk paper 23 x 24 x 24" As I approached working away from my studio during the Covid 19 'stay at home' order, I worked small, using material that I had at hand, including family debris monoprints, created by layering inked printing plates with my family's ephemeral & permanent cast offs, a record of the mundane and obsolete. After completing a large series of small ‘art in isolation’ mixed media prints, I went 3d, using double sided family debris monoprints as components for building sculptural forms. Folded paper vessels were stitched together to create abstract sculptures that pushed the limits of paper, ink and thread. ware-soluble media, India ink, acrylic paint, & acrylic paint marker 24 x 24 x 2.5" Other Dimensions is in my 'Celestial' series. Outerspace, clouds, floating, weightlessness, ... I feel like I'm looking into other dimensions or other worlds places I want to go and see. Where will it take me? With many layers of complex and pure color receding and coming forward. I especially enjoy beginning with water-soluble mark making media of various line qualities. Using my favorite brush, I move colored India Ink around on the canvas to create lovely grays. I then add acrylic paint as I respond to what is happening on the surface. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Retooling the Millsacrylic paint, fabrics, cork, bobbins, yarns, wireSize: 24 x 18Imagine the magnitude of quickly reviving the old mills across America to retool for speedy manufacturing. It seems such a monumental task, that took a generation to build the first time. Growing up in New England I was surrounded by textile mills, some still working, some newly converted to restaurants and shops. Here's my take on attempting the modern retooling of those textile mills. Created with acrylics, fabrics, fibers, and metal bobbins, the weaving of the fibers represents a mix of old and new fibers, with gold wire to hint at the future.

Magnoliasoil on canvasSize: 24 x 30Portraits are my favorite subject. While I am painting a face, I am one with the person, and there is an exhilaration that comes from achieving this intimacy. To me, comparable to painting faces is painting flowers. My favorite is the Magnolia. I am attracted to it because of its colors, so delicate and nuanced, from white to cream to amazing tints and shades of pink. By weaving elements of art such as shape, space, color and value, my goal is to elicit a kind of internal gasp of recognition from the viewer: “Ah, yes, that is a beautiful painting”.

oil on canvas 30 x 24" This painting is one of my new series of 18 portraits celebrating the LGBTQ community. As the mother of a son who identifies as Queer, as an American citizen and as a human being, I believe it is important to give a tribute of love to those too often ignored, discriminated against, at best misunderstood and at worst persecuted. Documenting this population’s personal stories and intimate dreams beyond their sometimes-non-conforming appearance or behaviors, is crucial to further their universal acceptance and enable them to live their lives openly and freely. Gary is a friend of a friend and he was very willing to let me paint his portrait.

Lady in Grottoacrylic on canvasSize: 10 x 14I experiment with various acrylic paints, gels, fiber pastes, mica flakes, charcoal, found/recycled items, and most recently water-based oil paints. I do not use digital art as I enjoy using my hands in a painterly manner, like a gardener putting her hands in the Earth’s soil. I use these materials as most are water based and kinder to our planet. The emotional base of my work are the environmental challenges we face. My never-ending ideas come from news reports, science-based books and native culture tradition and stories.

acrylic, oil, glass 12 x 12 x 2" My work is experimental. I used the left overs in my studio such as dried acrylic skins, seed beads, and a remnant of a bespoke glass piece gone wrong. I threw done the initial paint and let it dry. I stayed in a state of being open as I layered the skins, seed beads and glass pieces on the board. I added more paint and then finished the pieces using fat oil sticks in white or black.

A leisurely Sunday of Pup, Park and Peoplepen on paper with watercolor washes.Size: 6 x 12I love drawing and painting people and animals where ever I happen to be ...trains, buses, waiting rooms, parks, etc. Most of my subjects don't know that I'm drawing them. I draw from life and often mix and match to create idyallic yet quirky scenes. I was walking a close family pet in the park. In my mind, she jumped up on the bench of random strangers and became family. it inspired this bucolic friendly Prospect Park image.

watercolor, marker, ink, pencil 20 x 16 x 2" The art piece, Facade, represents either being unaware or hiding a situation, condition or ailment for a long time that either threatens to bring down or squelch its host. It insists on normalcy and coping/acting as if all is fine in the face of the biggest life challenges. It could be autism, eating disorders, a congenital ailment, effects of smoking, phobias, IBS and and even acting as you are someone that deep down you don't feel as if it's who you are. The effects are exhausting and dangerous.

Family Group (Variation VIII) Collage Size: 9 x 12 Family Group and Animated Forms are recurring themes in all my 2D and 3D work. My interest is in exploring the boundaries between representation and abstraction. I reduce the subjects to bold, simplified forms and create excitement, tension and often lots of space in the artwork. Form, color and texture became increasingly important in development of the collage, and man-made and natural materials like felt, suede, velvet, paper, sandpaper and copper were incorporated into the pieces. This is an exciting, intuitive and challenging way to work. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic on canvas 24 x 83 x 1.5" Dead Zone I, published in the print edition of the international literary an arts journal, Still Point Arts Quarterly XI, was inspired by media reports of agricultural and industrial runoffs occurring in deltas, estuaries, lakes, rivers and oceans worldwide. Add in climate change acidifying and warming the waters, the end results are low oxygen levels that lead to reproduction problems in sea life, reduction of the population of large fish and suffocation of marine life. There may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Scientists have stated that dead zones due to human activity are reversible if their causes are reduced or eliminated. Surely a challenge and an uphill battle.

mixed-media, aluminum, sculpted photo, fabric, fiber, encaustic wax and paper 20 x 18 x 5" “Rooted in Humanity” is a series of relief sculptures that records moments of humanity and issues of the environment, reflecting tensions within our current diverse and often divisive society. Inspiration for these works began with long walks in the woods examining nature’s design and detail. By exploring innovative methods and materials, Horowitz’s path is always evolving as are her techniques. Capturing body language, movement and how they relate to emotion and character are essential. Forms emerge from the earth, deeply rooted past struggles and growth. These works depict the human form both isolated and vulnerable and examine the frailty of the human condition.

Sculpture 15 x 15 x 3" In Figures Embracing, the delicate nature of humanity is portrayed through sculpted figures, creating haunting shadows as important as the physical beings. Capturing body language, movement and how they relate to emotion and character, reflect the human condition exposed in these works. Sculptures of wire mesh reveal figures whose existence is precarious. These copper sculptural works represent a time and place of isolation, where home, assimilation and community are important social issues relevant to our current climate. By penetrating façades, we look deeply into transparent figures seeing what lies in the shadows of the unseen and unspoken.

acrylic on canvas 36 x 36 x 1.5" My piece, "Irreconciliation," explores the uncomfortable experience of irreconcilability. In today's political climate, it is unfortunately an ever-present force. Through abstraction, the painting captures the dynamisms, complexities, contradictions and opposing forces resulting in irreconciliation, yet also depicts the seeds of possible conciliation, if only we could acknowledge them.

acrylic on canvas 24 x 36 x 1.5" In "Territory Unknown", I use abstraction to convey the notion and emotion of displacement. Given the pandemic, political acrimony and the ever-present refugee and immigrant experience, we can all relate to the sense of feeling displaced. This painting attempts to capture and evoke such feelings.
