Bold hydrangeas always attract my attention. For this painting, I was inspired by dappled late afternoon sunlight falling among hydrangea blooms. Warm colors capture the fleeting late summer sun. Already a few leaves gather at the base of the steps, suggesting the change of seasons. The iconic green striped awnings and door hark back many decades, adding a sense of timelessness to this cottage near Alexandria Bay, New York. On a whim, I added a single hydrangea peeking from the window on the left to balance the composition and suggest the owner’s touch.
