  • acrylic, graphite, antique quilted fabric on canvas 80 x 80 x .5"
Crone Gobnait experiments with Faith Ringgold’s storytelling quilts. Here, I tell the story of Gobnait, Celtic goddess and Irish Catholic saint. After leaving her dysfunctional family, an angel told her when she saw 9 white deer she’d found the land for her abby. Patron saint of bees and beekeepers, Gobnait is depicted in her crone/grandmother years wearing a beehive crown and honeycomb breastplate. She rises from the waters of her holy well. My grandmother’s quilt surrounds the piece; a nod to my grandmother and to all crones and grandmothers.

  • Acrylic on canvas 20 x 20 in.   When I was a young girl, my dad taught me to swim. He'd let me hold onto him as he swam deep underwater....and I loved that feeling of gliding through the water, holding onto him. I never could last as long as he could underwater, and I'd have to let go and swim madly up for air. Those are some of my favorite memories with him...swimming. When he died, I dreamed we were swimming together again, only this time I was the one swimming deep underwater and he was the one swimming madly to the surface...and this time he went far further than the surface.; he went straight on into the sky. I woke up missing him, but happy we could swim together again...even if it is in my dreams.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • acrylic, oil pastel, graphite on canvas 35 x 36 x 2" It is the space between things that I find fascinating; the space between thoughts, between moments, between physical things. I have read that we are mostly the space between the atoms that make up our physical beings.; not solid at all, it turns out, but primarily the gap, the void, the opening between the atoms. I ask myself what lies in that space? Is this where we find spirit? or consciousness? I believe it is in the space between what we see that Life actually exists and that is where the focus of my art lies.

  • Acrylic 12 x 12" XOXO speaks to choosing joy in the midst of fear and opening your heart despite the danger that you may feel great pain and sorrow. When my son and his wife were expecting our first grandchild, we anxiously waited and watched… for this was a very complicated and dangerous pregnancy. From the moment I learned she was pregnant, I decided to feel all the joy, all the excitement, and let the fear take a backseat. This painting was created as we waited.

  • oil 9 x 12" Fine artist and humanitarian Laurie Elizabeth McKinley has dedicated her life to observing, documenting, and participating in the human experience. She has traveled the globe her entire life, compelled to observe and photograph the stories of vanishing cultures with compassion and humanity. She translates these increasingly rare images onto canvas, so that she might share them with the world and hopefully inspire change to protect diversity and the environment. Laurie Elizabeth paints in all genres, especially enjoying en plein air in villages throughout the world and capturing that very special “first feeling” -- the mystery of the moment, the chi, the magic. Laurie Elizabeth encourages all to see the imbalances and injustices in the world and be a voice for awareness and change. I find it fascinating how the light quality, colors and cloud formations dramatically change on a windy or stormy day. In minutes you can see dark to vibrant colors and go from cloudy to open skies. This painting comes from a ongoing series looking to the sky, trying to capture the vibrancy and moods that sweep in and out.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • multiple photographs layered in Photoshop 16.5 x 11" Who am I? Who are you? Usually we see ourselves or others from a single perspective--especially in photography. That is why many celebrities feel they must only be photographed from a certain (most flattering) angle. But Picasso understood that even when we are looking at an object, a person we are really seeing everything we know about that individual. He applied this concept especially when depicting his beloveds and his rejected beloveds. I love the idea of multiple images incorporated into a photo, a medium that theoretically only captures a single moment in time. • brown bags & acrylic collage on canvas
    21 x 17 x 1"
This collage was inspired by a hike through the gorgeous landscape of Mt. Rainier, WA. I paint ordinary bags with acrylic, tear them into myriad pieces, which I then hand apply with matte medium to realize my vision. Inspired by nature’s beauty, my interest in this medium relates to the cycle of life and nature. The bags start out as trees, are made into paper bags, which I recycle, paint, tear, and collage into the image of the natural world which provided the original inspiration and energy.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Educator Statement My artwork is grounding to my soul. I am taken aback by the beauty and intangible qualities of natural flora: the various textures; the amazing flowers and fruits and foliage; and most of all, the spectacular rejuvenation after what appears to be a most definite death in the bleakness of a cold, dark winter. In our largely urban society, the ability to appreciate our natural surroundings has become dulled-the ability to see the wonder in a tree, the magic and the mystery in a flower, the indescribable peace and contentment that can fill one’s heart. I try to show this to the viewer as my work is a surreal reminder of the peaceful, centered energy of the miraculous, natural living world which surrounds us. My collages are made from torn, recycled brown shopping bags. I am interested in the concept that the bags started out as trees and then were made into paper which was torn and collaged into an image of the natural world, which in itself provided the required inspiration and energy. A quiet harmonic stillness is comprehended. I hope that the viewer thinks that they are looking at beautiful and serene paintings at first glance, then discover that they are viewing a collage that involved a painstaking genesis in the studio. • Glazed Ceramic on Found Object
    8 x 4.5"
“Perfect is the enemy of good” is a quote usually attributed to Voltaire. While I appreciated the warning inherent in the message, I was caught up in classical techniques that I felt were a historically validated process and a pre-trodden pathway to excellence. It was the “right” way to do things. I cannot explain…even to myself…how or why I yearned to explore other ways of working. Was it the isolation of the pandemic? Left to myself…fewer exhibitions to participate in…and time…? Perhaps that was the conspiracy allowing me to refocus and approach sculpture as if I was just learning for the first time. YouTube taught me how to make a cup from a slab of clay… No model…no armature…no mandate. I experimented with the ceramic way of building and after several workshops…SLAB Work took off. The results are portraits that are playful and honest and leave the viewer to come to their own conclusions. To rediscover sculpture in a new way at this stage in my career has been amazing and energizing.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Oil on Canvas Beauty of Love Size: 16 x 20 x 1 In this paintings, I explore the delicate interplay between love and hope through the vibrant depiction of flowers. Each bloom symbolizes a unique facet of love - passion, tenderness, and resilience - while their vivid colors represent the hope that springs eternal, even in the face of life's challenges. The gentle movement of petals and the harmonious arrangement invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences of love and the light it brings to our lives. These works serve as a reminder that, just as flowers bloom anew each season, love and hope can flourish, inspiring us to embrace the beauty in every moment. • ink on paper 15 x 18" The Flotsam series follows my long interest in shallow water system imagery across sculpture, painting, and drawing projects. In this work I allow each material to inform the evolution of image making. Started during a road trip in 2023 with a small kit, I began these drawings with layers of brushed-on ink that got worked over with marker which rendered a silvery, burnished surface. These quickly became a process that encouraged intuitive shape-making, and where chaos on the page came to order through a network of connections.

  • acrylic on canvas 36 x 36 x 2" I’m interested in notions of landscape that focus on shallow water systems in both natural and man-made environments. The work combines representational and abstract approaches for a dialogue that addresses complexity and metaphor and which celebrates the intuitive response across painting, sculpture, drawing and print media. Composed Shallow (Three Leaves) proposes an intimate experience of a natural water system where familiar color, structure, and perspective are replaced and re-ordered.

This work combines representational and abstract approaches for a dialogue that addresses structural complexity and metaphor and which celebrates the intuitive response across painting, sculpture, drawing and print media. The monoprint/monotype process that I explored in early 2023 became a way to expand my drawing practice and still convey a natural water system where familiar color, structure, and perspective are replaced and re-ordered.

  • collage 17 x 19"
During a month-long residency in Ireland I became entranced by the rich textures of stacked stone walls and pointed silhouettes of rooftops across the moody grey skies. As a figurative artist I was pleasantly surprised to see these architectural elements seep into my work. Ann’s Dairy came to me at the completion of my residency and captures the essence of a day spent in the countryside. This small, but mighty piece incorporates my gestural approach to figure drawing using handprinted papers to weave a tapestry that blurs the line between structure and nature.

  • charcoal, graphite, & ink collaged on gallery wrapped canvas 20 x 21 x 1.5" Finding Space boldly displays a figure I have been exploring for some time. Once timid and unsure, she is now settling into her environment, pushing against, and past, boundaries placed around her. While this piece did not begin as a true self-portrait, it grew into a solid representation of my own emergence as an artist. Reinventing myself in this next stage of life has brought me face-to-face with insecurity and self-doubt, but also revealed a strength and determination once forgotten. • Copper etching in black on white paper
    5.5 x 3.5"
On the Border is an etching based on an original landscape drawing done of a creek that marks the border between two states. Reflection following an unexpected illness in late fall prompted me to return to etching copper plates, the metal that first attracted me to printmaking. A harder substance that requires slow-biting ferric acid, copper draws out the production process but allows the artist to work in greater detail and delve deeper into the quality of line. The result is always worth the wait. Copper creates its own magical world, a visual link to printmakers of the past.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • drypoint print with embossing 8 x 6" The dry point “My Eumenides” was inspired by the haunting visions described in the memoirs of Thomas De Quincey "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater." Opium was De Quincey’s escape ticket out of the wretched reality of early 19th century London. In his nightmares, we can see a parallel to the confusion and angst humankind experiences in post-modern times and our dangerous need to sedate ourselves from pain. A series of wondrous and terrifying scenes, "Confessions" compels the reader to visualize the spectacular architecture of De Quincey’s dream world. By making solid the nightmares of societal and personal failings, this book continues to illuminate human suffering.

  • acrylic on wood panel
    20 x 16"
The Forest Inscapes came about accidentally, as I was experimenting with dripping paint on wood panels. I had used dripping extensively in my large Erosion paintings, in which the drips formed veils of color. In a smaller format, the columns of paint looked like trees. Thus were born the Forest Inscapes, which have evolved to reflect the seasons in the forest around my studio. Forest Inscape #28 is an interpretation of the glittering effect of early evening light seen through the screen of forest foliage.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • acrylic on wood 24 x 20 x 1.5" This painting was begun experimentally by dripping paint, which I then slashed through. I had the idea of making some sort of dense floral, decorative abstraction, but it evolved into the painting of a hedge. Adding the doorway transformed it from a landscape into a mindscape, as we are invited to explore unseen depths.

  • acrylic on wood panel 24 x 20 x 1.5" This painting was started experimentally by dripping paint and slashing through it to create decorative vines. A landscape was painted around these vines, and the painting was shown with this image. Later, I decided to weave more vines over the landscape, The weaving forms a thick veil through which the original landscape can be viewed, like a memory or mysterious fantasy.

Coming Soon is part of the ongoing series of Bog Bodies I started in 2008. While exploring the theme of Bog Bodies and the constant cycle of all organisms, our impact on the environment and daily living took me on a side road to look for more. Water is the most important part of keeping everything alive, and my theme flowing. But when nature takes a turn and brings drought, it leaves an imprint on my ideas. And my ideas affect every single aspect of my life.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

I create expressive sculptural forms from natural materials, drawing inspiration from both nature and the human figure, yet venturing toward abstraction. The essence of my work often embodies a biomorphic aesthetic, offering a tangible representation of our human connection to the environment. The idiosyncrasies of each piece of stone or wood present unique technical and creative opportunities. I approach this with a blend of intuitive and calculated design solutions. The inspiration for this work was to upcycle leftover pieces in my studio. I am also venturing into working additively instead of subtractively.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • sculpture 10 x 12 x 7" I create expressive sculptural forms from natural materials, drawing inspiration from both nature and the human figure, yet venturing toward abstraction. The essence of my work often embodies a biomorphic aesthetic, offering a tangible representation of our human connection to the environment. The idiosyncrasies of each piece of stone or wood present unique technical and creative opportunities. I approach this with a blend of intuitive and calculated design solutions, constantly seeking to unveil the spirit inherent in each material. Employing pneumatic and electrical tools, I meticulously finalize the finish through hand polishing. When I engage directly with the process, it transcends to an unconscious state of mind. I commence by studying the stone or piece of wood—observing its shape, color, and constitution. I inquire, 'What is it telling me?' and envision how I can breathe life into it through movement, revealing the beauty concealed within and the spirit that resonates with the viewer. The stone both inspires and teases me. As I progress with a particular vision, I sometimes find myself uncovering an entirely different one. The process of carving into a piece of living, natural material elicits moments of joy and excitement, intertwined with periods of doubt and struggle.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Their interaction evokes a choreographed dance, where balance, tension, and movement create a continuous exchange of energy. • Picasso marble on a marble base 14 x 10 x 7" I chose the stone because of its interesting coloring while understanding it would be a challenge to carve. The mixture of colors, combination of elements it was composed of, and the dry brittle quality would make it difficult to control. I kept the form simple because of the complex design, yet I wanted the dynamic of the piece moving through space, inspired by the name of the stone, “Picasso,”: thus, the title Harlequin. I utilized power tools to avoid unwanted breaks. The process was direct carving meaning that I had no preconceived idea or model to refer to. Through both an intuitive process and calculated design solutions. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
