monoprint with watercolor 18 x 24"   Loie Fuller was a pioneer modern dancer, or “free dance,” as it was called in early days. She was born Marie Louise Fuller in 1862 in my home state of Illinois and renamed herself “Loie” at age 16. She was filmed in 1902, perhaps the first film of a dancer. I imagined her perhaps in a mirror, or doing a duet with herself, in this monoprint. This print, on Hannemuhle paper, was created from a plexiglass plate with a dremel, inked as an intaglio print and subsequently hand watercolored. It is an homage to Ms. Fuller, her history, the joy of dance and the dancing days of my youth- Jill Cliffer-Baratta   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.  

mixed media 15 x 11 x .5" The two images represented in “Breaking Bread” include women working over primitive ovens in the outdoor market in Istanbul, making bread, to be sold and eaten as it is pulled from the heat. Fragments of ancient fired pottery and Turkish carpets, all cut to resemble mosaic pieces are cultural objects layered and embedded in plaster in an archeological framework that reflects timeless events and meanings of Anatolian culture from Neolithic times. collage with hand-cut found paper, rice paper, historical elementals, NY Times 13 x 10" Geisha in Full Cold Moon (Tokyo, 1908) depicts a traditional Japanese geisha who is surrounded by the beauty and mystery of the night sky. In Japan's Winter Solstice called "Toji," people do a particular tradition for health. They take warm baths in yuzu, sweet smelling citrus fruits from across East Asia. wax pastel on paper 24 x 18 x 1.5" An exploration of seeing things from different perspectives. We're familiar with the expression "realize my dreams", but what if instead we danced with our dreams? And moonrise almost becomes a landscape within a landscape. Finally, self portrait is usually of one's face, but what if it was more commonly the back of the head? My work depicts the subtle lights, reflections and hidden hues on the subjects. Every artwork I create is inspired from life through an imaginative approach. I enjoy meeting interesting new friends, espacially likeminded woman who are also craetive in their own ways. With our environment in a crisis, I find my work inspired by how to convey the message to think about our natural elements and the beauty around us in its abstract and organic way. Each of my paintings is a dialogue between what is happening to our planet and myself. I love experimenting with materials and mixing the media in 2D and 3D works as I adapt to environmentally clean techniques, utilizing non-toxic materials. I believe in the interconnectedness of all things. In my work, I link the qualities of the natural elements with various cultural symbols and draw visual parallels of these correlations, using organic forms and interwoven trajectories. I am exploring the dynamic of movement and light - the light reflected on the surfaces of sculpture, and the inner light that works of art emanate, reflecting the artist’s intention. My process is intuitive and so are my findings.
