The intertwined form reflects current turmoil, while intricately detailed hands symbolize individual responsibility and the struggle to uphold these values. Anastasia. The Firebird Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 30 x 24 Dinner with my nonagenarian friends inspired this piece and is why i called it "Social Hour" I decided to render them through colors and shapes so the focus would be on the connection between them and on the mood of the moment rather than on their features. What I see, hear, feel and experience makes its way into my art. Growing up in multiple cultures influences my work, and my love of fairy tales, fiction, fantasy, and sci-fi seeps through as well. I paint mostly in acrylics and gouache and love to experiment with a variety of techniques and materials. At times my work is autobiographical as I aim to tell a story, convey a feeling, or share memories. In Social Hour my focus was on friendship and aging. Stained hands claw at her, a neon pink vital sign flickers beneath them, but neither seem concerned. Handcuffed together, she extends a green heart—her life force—while he lazily swipes at it with one hand, too distracted to care. Her face is being sawed, a nod to self-reinvention and erasure, while her leg fuses into a television, the ultimate surrender to media control. She wears fishnets, playing the role expected of her, while he drifts around in his power polka dot boxers, blissfully clueless. His foot dangles over an erupting volcano, but he’s too indifferent to notice destruction. Despite the comic absurdity, they remain under the umbrella —wrapped in privilege and illusion, perfectly safe… until the ground disappears beneath them. My great-grandmother and great-grandfather lived in Siberia. They were a wealthy family from the upper class. In 1917, the Russian Revolution took place and the civil war began. The communist Bolsheviks who came to power killed the rich and took away their property. My great-grandmother survived, although she lost all her property. The fate of my great-grandfather is unknown. It was impossible to talk about his disappearance. My great-grandmother's son hid his origins, because he was afraid that the new authorities would subject him to repression. Great-grandmother Anna was left alone, without money, without a husband and son and without understanding why she was punished like that. In the painting, great-grandmother Anna sits in her favorite lace blouse, with an album of family photos and forget-me-not flowers in her hands as a symbol of a request for us to remember her. On the small table on which her hand rests is a photograph of the heir to the Russian throne, Tsarevich Alexei. The photograph is a symbol of the great-grandmother's commitment to the old pre-revolutionary order. The fate of the Tsarevich is also tragic. He will be shot with the entire royal family by the Bolsheviks in 1918. The background on which the grandmother is depicted is a symbolic image of her native Siberian city as it was before Revolution, on the eve of Apocalypse.

Abigail Went MissingSize: 30 x 30 I have done many paintings with tornadoes which express my concern over our climate crisis. I also try to combine these images with figures that provide a contrast and an emotion that heighten that imagery. That is what I strove for with Abigail Went Missing, a confluence of images that first captures the eye and then over time captures the mind. As with most works I begin the painting itself carries me along into something that I am not completely aware but go along for the ride and then I realize that the work is telling me the story. Abigail expresses the concern over our current catastrophic climate both literally and metaphorically but it also hints at drama that might have happened long ago. The extreme physicality of the stump engages and thrusts the experience directly into the viewer's space. Title refers to the collapse of a physical system into increasing levels of disorder and uncertainty. It calls attention to time in a deep sense as well as attention to the destruction of our natural environment. The mesmeric process of careful observation utilizing many grades of graphite pencils is a time-consuming detailed approach where textures are always visible and pulsating with life. The term “flotsam” speaks to a sense of the lost and found. Residing somewhere between landscape, figuration, and narrative, I present landscape elements in terms of parts that are disembodied and ready for arrangement. I like to play with their formal relationships, to jostle any sense of fixed placement. Forms that we might recognize as either shadow or structure become at once horizontal and vertical as they share the painted plane. A leaf can be both a figure in the landscape and a signal about decay. Shape becomes the result of withheld paint as well as applied.

Secret TrianglesA painting is a way to empathize with human experiences on a universal level. Non-material ideologies are realized through non-objective painting. My recent paintings address secrecy, buoyancy, levity, themes of duality and continuity, connectivity, energy, fragility, microcosm versus macrocosm, and more. For me, a painting might include: the physicality of the material world; immaterial intangibilities such as time, imagination and subconscious thought; past experience; historical influence and context; formal visual elements such as color, line, shape, or form; literal or veiled intents and communications; ontological expression, symbols and meaning, universal emotions, conceptual decision-making, and persistent chromatic energy. I urge color and value toward reification, the gestalt perception of an object as having more spatial information than is present, while utilizing limited or elemental, inherently frontal forms. Rendezvousacrylic/mixed media on canvasI had a phone call from a Professor from New England college who asked me if I would be interested in an exhibition themed "Landscrape", not misspelled. Of course I agreed and proceeded to paint some large pieces for the exhibit. Long story short, the exhibit didn't get off the ground so to speak, but the work did. Consequently, this piece was included by Anita Rogers, Anita Rogers Gallery in the Art2Life 2023 exhibit. One thing leads to another. In creating this piece I was able to paint freely with abandon. I utilized larger brushes, paint edgers to drag and remove paint, charcoal, graphite, you name it. I also used some house paint because I loved the way it moved on the canvas. The work had many layers, a paint layer followed by a layer of gloss medium, which give the piece a lovely depth and textural quality. Study for Stress Series 19For many women, a hectic life results in being overcommitted and overwhelmed. The Stress, Pit, and Covid Series drawings reflect upon this common-place tension. Small studies are drawn before the time-consuming larger works are started. Studies, from 30 x30 inches such as the one entered, to many only a few inches in size, are used to confirm the composition of drawings or to clarify implied messages in sculptural projects. These preparatory efforts also gauge my interest in pursuing a similar image in a much larger format. Observed in these studies are minuscule close-up details that have interest separate from their practical preliminary studio function. This beginning work assures that the desired implication is evident that visual images can reflect the complexity of emotional states. The traffic was at a standstill in the car next to me I saw this girl with her head out of the window. I immediately took my camera and photographed her.I loved the image and her facial expression.
