8+ South of the Mid-Hudson Bridge
hand-colored etching
11 x 14
The Rowing Prints are a series created to explore the sport of crew from the point of view of a rower and coach. They are drawn from mundane images of regular practice sessions usually at the crack of dawn on the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie. The etchings in this series are made on small plates etched into the copper of electronic circuit board blanks and hand colored with watercolors to achieve the atmosphere of the moment. I create images that are at once both realistic and nostalgic, aligned with the experience of rowers who ply the waters of the historic rowing venue today.
