Bird on a Wire
acrylic paint on cradled wood panel with collaged papers and pen
12 x 12

The symbolism in my piece involves a bird, a ladder, and a woman. The bird on a wire sitting over the woman represents the tension between freedom and confinement. The thin wire suggests vulnerability. The image of the woman holding flowers suggests vulnerability and beauty. But because she is wearing a hard hat she also represents empowerment which shows beauty and strength coexisting. The ladder is there to show the rising or courage of both the bird and woman to break free. I like using the imagery of ladders in most of my work. In this piece, in combination with the wire, it supports the meaning of the delicate balance in life.
