Mixed Media The Impressure of Nothingness into Something 19 x 15 x 2 in. “The Impressure of Nothingness into Something” is #6 of a series of 12 Vestal Plates. It. is about love and the creative force: where we feel the physical convergence of the universe in our hearts which then moves us to make art, to be of service to our gifts, to express our spiritual nature. The stitching represents spine, ribs and alignment, the string of beads enhances the sacred womb, the copper leaf on breasts expresses vision and a wink gesture. Laced Vestencaustic, peat, gouache, string on hardened paper sculptureSize: 18.25 x 14 x 5I work with the female form, delivering her to rooms and spaces where she can "take up space" and be seen. "Laced Vest" is a contemplation on chakras--energy wheels--that spin in our bodies and contribute to our well-being.

Spirit Vessel with Gold Markings Shellac and gold flake on hardened cartapesta Size of Piece: 52 x 15 The sculpture explores the imprint of time, history, and mind on the interaction of materials, as experienced in myth, spirit, and the body. For this piece I created an armature of a young woman and wrapped her like an ancient Egyptian deity in layers of paper soaked in hardening agents. When she dried, I pulled her spirit’s shell away from the armature, creating a hollow vessel that viewers can look into to see where her spirit had once lived. Inside there remains a sense of beautiful nothingness that has joined the larger mind that flows through time, consciousness , relationships, challenges and opportunities. The outer Vessel shell represents the memory of love having passed through it, and I adorned it with golden circles and a triangle, symbols of perfection, strength and wealth. oil 24 x 24 x 1" This work was inspired by watching an artist construct a large scale urban artwork. All creatives will recognize this moment- approaching the empty page, the lump of clay or the white wall; all problems and all solutions are available if we take that leap of faith and...begin!

Mellow Yellowoil, pigment sticks, charcoal, cold wax on panelSize: 16 x 16My work explores the intersection between natural and human-made worlds through abstract compositions that channel emotional resonance. Drawing inspiration from the Blue Ridge Mountains and urban environments, I translate landscapes, shifting light, and vibrant color into layered paintings that feel both universally familiar and deeply personal. Each piece emerges through a dialogue between intuition and technique. By applying layers of pigment, wax, and charcoal, I establish tension between depth and flatness within the same canvas. This exploratory process invites viewers to contemplate their connections to both natural and constructed environments, and the beauty present in each. My approach has evolved to embrace greater spontaneity while honoring foundational materials and processes. I aim to capture the raw energy of landscapes while exploring the human experience within each scene. By allowing materials to intermingle unexpectedly, I create expressions that speak to our shared desire for awe and elemental connection.

Dance of the Lily Pads Color Pencil on Drafting Film Size of Piece: 23 x 30 Realism is the style that I have embraced for my work. Perhaps the truth is that it embraced me, flowing naturally from my hand, with inspiration coming from the world around me. Colored pencil is the medium I have chosen for most of my work. What started as a lifestyle choice (pencils are clean and easily transportable from primary residence to lake house) became an artistic choice. I’m a control freak - free and loose is NOT my style - so colored pencils are the perfect medium for me. Their layering and blending capabilities, the transparency of some colors, and vibrant pigments help me convey the interplay of color and light in my subject matter. At times, I use colors that are more brilliant or saturated than what I see in nature. It pleases me, and I hope it pleases the viewer. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

Piece of CakeColored Pencil on PaperSize: 14 x 18A visit to the Art Institute of Chicago where I enjoyed viewing pieces of art that depicted food inspired this painting as did my love of gastronomic delights like this piece of cake. I work in colored pencils because they lend themselves to the expression of my realistic style as detail work is possible. Color can be vivid, as the pencils have the intense pigment of oils combined with the transparency of watercolor which allows for layering. Food art like this should make you hungry. Finally, I want the viewer of my art to say, “That’s colored pencil?” And yes, I ate the cake!

colored pencil 22 x 16" My artwork is a straightforward sharing of what I see in the world around me, whether it is my family and the traditions we share, or nature including rivers, lakes, rocks, and plants. Nature work is usually inspired by the lake area in northern Wisconsin where we have a family lake house, and by the gardens and trees of the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, or by public gardens I visit on trips. I want the viewer to see the beauty of those places, to smell the scent of flowers and hear the rush of a river depicted in my work. Winter's End is inspired by a river near my lake house just as the long, cold, dark winter thaws into spring. Realism is the style that I have embraced for my work. Perhaps the truth is that it embraced me, flowing naturally from my hand. I have worked in oils, acrylics, and watercolors and occasionally still do, but colored pencil is the medium I have chosen for most of my work. At times, I use colors that are more brilliant or saturated than what I see in nature, and this is the case with Winter's End. I want the viewer to feel the coming of spring even as the snow sparkles on the rocks. That color pleases me, and I hope it pleases the viewer. color pencils on Strathmore Bristol Smooth 400 Series 17 x 13" Mushroom foraging is a popular Czech tradition and it’s one that my family (I am of Czech descent) enjoys. Chanterelles, lobster mushrooms, black trumpets and, of course, morels are our favorites. The basket of morels in my piece was inspired by mushrooms we picked on family land. I started looking at the photos I took that day. My artwork is a straightforward sharing of what I see in the world around me, whether it is my family, the traditions we share, or nature so I decided the textures of the mushrooms and basket would make a fantastic colored pencil work. The details were daunting and required patience I don’t always have, but the result was worth the effort!

Walled Up: Common Place Series Pastel Size: 10 x 10 I am a painter of contemporary landscapes that often blur the distinctions between realism and abstraction. The driving force behind my work is my interest in finding and amplifying the beauty and mystery that exists quietly all around us, both obvious and hidden. I am always seeking ways that the humblest scenes reveal profound insights and offer wordless understanding. Known for working in pastels for nearly 30 years, my imagery often uses a close focus on water, rocks, and foliage. The inclusion of reflections and shadows, often without a horizon for reference, allows a range of interpretations and encourages the viewer to move beyond the literal with me. While my imagery remains grounded in the natural world, I alter or emphasize at will. Even when including human constructions I focus on the abstract and curious elements. I love creating passages of paint where one can move without concern for naming. Free association and personal response are encouraged. I hope my take on a scene can clarify or illuminate nascent insights for others as well as for me. Chugach Sunset Iacrylic on canvasSize: 30 x 40The beauty and variety of the natural world has always been my source of inspiration. From early memories of the rural New England dairy farm of my youth, I have cultivated a curious reverence for the environment around me. My practice relies on close observation followed by intuitive expression. My paintings serve as visual poems of lived experiences. I paint my memory of a place or moment in time. Instead of reproducing what I have seen, I use meditation, music, and improvisation to stir my visual creativity. I work slowly to allow the paintings to evolve over time, layering pigments, lines, materials, and shapes to evoke natural colors and textures. The resulting compositions radiate an underlying organic energy. I hope my works draw viewers in and invite an emotional response. This painting is my experience of the sky and the Chugach Mountains seen from my hotel room in Anchorage, Alaska.

acrylic 21.5 x 27.5 x 1.25" This painting is from my earlier series of Still Life paintings. Having grown up on my parent's dairy farm surrounded by nature's beauty which included my Mom's flower garden with seemingly unending blossoms and her vegetable gardens. Mom's vegetables such as squash and cucumber had such sculptural leaves and gerbera daisy leaves remind me of them. This painting makes visual my growing up experience described above, made visual through integral connections of music, intuition, and meditations over many moments in time.

oil 12 x 12" My artwork is about personal connection - to each other, to the space around us, and to the things within it. I use color in my work to represent life and emotion, and to create make-believe places. They are dreamlike worlds I fill with pattern, shape and semi-recognizable objects. I hope the ambiguity in my work allows the viewer to find their own story in it. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

charcoal 28 x 18 x 1" I raced home after witnessing the total envelopment of a familiar coastline across Oyster Bay from West Neck Beach. I usually study from life for inspiration for my abstractions but this night I simply wanted to record and pay homage how uplifted and untethered I felt seeing hints of a familiar shore and knowing just where I was. I immediately made two pieces and this particular one bears mark like seagulls feet as we often see them in the sand but they (the marks) give the impression of waves softly crashing into the shore. The symbolic abstraction of the creatures who inhabit this place, being present in the marks was a surprise and a delight.

oil 24 x 30 x 1.25" I fell in love with Italy many years ago, and have returned a few times. There is so much beauty in the landscape, their sculptures, the piazzas and museums. So a year ago I traveled to Florence (again), Lake Como and Cinque Terre. Taking photos always holds the memories of the trip for me. I chose a photo from Cinque Terre as inspiration for my painting. The lighting was perfect for an afternoon, the boats were moored after a day of work, and two people sitting and chatting completed the scene.
