  • The Sky Above Oil paint, tissue paper, oil pastel Size of Piece: 16 x 20"

I am both a professional musician and artist. I experience life as having order as well as disorder through sound and sight. I create art along with music. The execution of the painting therefore becomes a personal performance, as were my song recitals when I was singing professionally, the one difference being: I am not interpreting someone else's poetry - I am creating my own in color and shape.

  • U.S. Constitution on a knot Sculpture: Carrara marble and granite Size of Piece: 36 x 22 x 26"

Political parties in the United States are fighting against each other and can’t agree on anything. Everyone is in a knot. So I decided to make a literal knot out of the Constitution, held up with a carving of my hands. My hands, my statement. - Robin Antar “U.S. Constitution in a Knot” is a symbolic piece featuring the U.S. Constitution as a document, with all seven articles, tied into a knot, representing the complexities and challenges within the nation's principles. The intertwined form reflects current turmoil, while intricately detailed hands symbolize individual responsibility and the struggle to uphold these values. The sculpture rests on a pile of rough granite chips, highlighting themes of fragmentation and disarray, contrasting with the smooth marble. Overall, it serves as a poignant commentary on the chaotic state of the nation, embodying both despair and determination in the effort to maintain important values amidst societal conflict.

  • Moon in the Water Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 48 x 36

My painting was inspired by a phrase used by Master Dogen (1200-1253), the founder of Zen Buddhism, when teaching about the ineffable experience of enlightenment -- "moon in the water". The moon being a symbol of enlightenment and the water referring to the human mind freed of the obscuration of incessant thinking, thus becoming like an empty, open mirror able to clearly reflect the true nature of reality, allowing the direct experience of one's own true nature. "Old pond... frog jumps in kerplop!" --Matsuo Basho

My current piece, Extended Thoughts, is wood-carved, burned, and pigmented with colored pencil. The base is composed of various pieces of Rust - a square washer, a vintage gutter guard woven with coated yellow wire, and an old tree stand.

  • Gulf Tide Monotype on Printmaking Paper Size of Piece: 18 x 24

My art is a vibrant celebration of nature's dynamic energy, inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of Naples, Florida. During a morning walk, I was captivated by the shimmering sunlight kissing the horizon, the playful splashes of fish beneath the surface, and the gentle sway of seagrass on coral as it danced to the rhythm of each tidal wave. Through the expressive medium of Monotype and impressionistic mark-making, I endeavored to capture the gulf's movement and vitality—including its intense color palette and abundant life below reaching upward to the sunlight.

  • Rebirth Transfer Film Print of Digital Collage on Paper Size of Piece: 8 x 12 x 1

I am inspired by the ability of flowers to bring joy even in the darkest of times. In this piece, the contrast in value between the dark background and the light flowers reflects the flowers’ emotional push against darkness which is further emphasized by the subtle gradations in value surrounding the flowers. The value contrasts in the image are further enhanced by the strong color contrasts.

I began the image by drawing flowers in a garden and adding color with pencil and paint. I modified the value, color, forms and composition of the result to create a digital collage in Photoshop. The final image is a digital transfer of the collage to arches 88 paper using transfer film and transfer solution.

  • Beach No.5 Silkscreen on Paper Size of Piece: 15 x 22

My work investigates resemblance of particular surroundings in connection with site specific placement. What interests me is the interconnection with the landscape and the viewer themselves, impression of their own identity, and peculiar memories in the specific surrounding.

In this particular print series, I worked with the beach scapes of the unforgettable Cape Cod area, often working on location while preparing first drawings and color sketches. By combining layered imagery, working with a dramatic contrast and values, along with the innovative methods of digital print and halftone, I was able to investigate the ability to recall certain memories, good and bad that often stopped a viewer in their tracks, and let them escape to the unknown while at the ocean side.

  • Balloon Girl Among the Clouds Digital Collage on Paper Size of Piece: 8 x 8

My creative process is very intuitive. An image presents itself to me with a certain resonance and calls upon other images or fragments of images to join it to form something quite different. It's alchemical--a visual amalgam--images attracting other fragments gestating into a new--perhaps unexpected--whole. It is like bird watching or even like catching butterflies in a net.

  • Reading by the Seashore Acrylic/Canvas Size of Piece: 16 x 20

Girl by the Seashore was painted from imagination,  another way I work.  Sometimes, I paint from imagination directly, with maybe only a thought to where the work will go, but more often, and here, the composition is derived from a pencil drawing, originally from imagination I which made quite a few years ago and still love.  I draw a lot.  Here, I worked to get the light the way I wanted it.

  • Dreaming Acrylics on Mylar Size of Piece: 20 x 16 x 1.25

As artists, we spend many hours in our studios. We are familiar with the

concept of isolation. But at the same time, we also fuel our creativity in our

outings away from the studio and by experiencing life and our surroundings

    to the fullest.

This artwork was created in the middle of the pandemic...

My heart was pounding hard, ready to explode with the necessity to express

myself. I was ready to tell the world that I was alive and full of energy, love,

plans and so much to do and say... I was bursting with creativity!

And that is how this series called “Catharsis” started…

  • Girl with Curlers Pencil and Pastel, Pencil on Paper Size of Piece: 10 x 8

“Girl with Curlers” is a portrait of my younger sister.  I was inspired when I saw her wearing her curlers in front of a window, the light from which bathed her hair and face in a soft glow.  I used an HB pencil, along with white, brown, and red pastel pencils on cream-colored paper to create a soft, minimalistic color scheme and used value to capture the interplay between the softness of her face and pajamas and the darker geometric mass of her hair in large curlers.

  • Contemplation Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 20 x 16

I was inspired by the contrast of the model against the light background, and the shadows that were created by the light source. My creative process was to establish the lights and darks. • Night of the Soul Collagraph Print Size of Piece: 5 x 7

This piece captures the chaos of the night. A collagraph, like many printing techniques, reveals itself to you as it comes off the press, much like the night magically turns into day. The interplay of lights and darks describe my nights of short bursts of sleep contrasted with wakefulness. There's a dreamy yet also unsettling aspect to the piece.

It was created with a substrate of cardboard, inks that were applied and wiped away, printed in pieces. The line work adds to its mystery.

  • Crayola Photography, Digital Size of Piece: 18 x 12 x .000032

Years of experience in the profession of architecture and interior design inspire me to photograph buildings. I have a particular passion for weathered structurers; with colorful ones adding extra charm. The Caribbean is one of my favorite places to fulfill my vision. ‘Crayola’ and ‘George Street’ can be found in Nassau where there is a plethora of colonial English architecture infused with a vibrant tropical color palette. I pack my Nikon and wander the streets searching for potential subjects with sharp lines, high contrast and aim for compositions of colorful saturated blocks of adjacent solid planes.

  • Taken Raspberry Alabaster Size of Piece: 17 x 13 x 10 One night in April, 2014, 276 schoolgirls in Chibok, Nigeria were kidnapped by a terrorist group called Boko Haram. This horrific news transfixed me and I made my sculpture, 'Taken', in response. I worked on the piece for months as their story remained alive for me, even as it faded in the news. In the time since, the 'Me Too' movement has publicized the global pervasiveness of sexual abuse, violence and repression. Artworks should hold the mirror, too. • Shahnameh Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 36 x 48 The painting is inspired by childhood memories. Somehow, translations of Persian texts of Ferdowsi's poems Shahnameh penetrated into Siberia behind the Iron Curtain. • Secrets Among Blossoms Acrylics and Watercolor on Aqua-board Size of Piece: 36 x 24 x 1.5 Secrets among Blossoms- Life is a canvas splashed with unexpected twists. Those who master the art of embracing uncertainty and forging ahead are the ones who truly survive. Each heart is a wondrous chest, overflowing with secrets. The outward beauty may enchant the eye, yet beneath the surface lie veiled wounds and hidden mysteries. Frozen Blooms- is about the quiet toll of life’s hardships. The woman holds a bouquet of flowers—symbols of beauty and hope—but she doesn’t seem to feel their warmth. Her gaze is distant, her expression unreadable, as if the struggles she’s faced have left her numb. The deep purple tones wrap around her like a lingering sadness, while the bright yellow background reminds us that life’s warmth still exists, even when it feels out of reach. This painting speaks to those moments when we carry beauty in our hands but feel unable to embrace it, when the weight of our past makes it hard to see the light ahead. • Outlook Santorini Acrylic on Canvas Size of Piece: 30 x 40 x 1.5 Painting is a meditative journey for me, a way to process loss and transform grief into something vibrant and full of hope. After my brother passed away, I felt an urgent need to create—not just for the sake of making art, but as a way to heal. Through bold colors and expressive brushstrokes, I seek to uplift both myself and those who experience my work, showing that even in darkness, beauty and joy can emerge. In paintings like Outlook Santorini, New Day, and Flower Fields, I abstract natural landscapes to capture their essence and emotion. Outlook Santorini reflects the island’s peaceful vistas, translating its tranquility into layers of color and movement. New Day speaks to renewal and optimism, its light-filled hues evoking the fresh start that comes with dawn. Flower Fields is a celebration of nature’s energy, bursting with expressive colors that mirror the vitality of a landscape in bloom. • Hava Mixed Media on Paper Size of Piece: 24 x 18 x .05 As women, we are not simple. We are complex, exquisite beings that hold more potential than ever recognized. For thousands of years, across regions, for the sake of safety, we hid our true nature to accommodate those with made-up power. Now, we are leaping out of our assigned frames and are claiming our own narrative. Equality is a basic human right, a fundamental pillar in establishing a peaceful and prosperous world. While progress happens, there is still a great deal left to do. Girls and women continue to face significant challenges all around the world. Historically, though, women are described as goddesses, spirits, mythical beings from fairytales and scriptures - we are holy and dangerous. We are everything man desires and everything he fears, his source of life and his terror at the thought of death, of loss. All these contradictions stir many questions and emotions, but we learn to find the balance in life. • But He Died Collage and acrylic on panel Size of Piece: 24 x 24 x 1.5 Inspired by the beautiful rolling foothills in Umbria, Italy, this piece captures the energy and heat of summer in this area. My work comes in bursts of spontaneity—bold, colorful, and full of energy—yet created in a state of complete calm. I'm delighted when the unexpected emerges. Those surprises excite me and guide the pieces to their final forms. I’m inspired by both the wild freedom of the abstract expressionists and the sharp clarity of the precisionists, always searching for a balance between the two. Every piece is an adventure, a conversation between instinct and intention, a process that is intuitive, driven by curiosity, and open to the unexpected. • Alas . . . I Knew Him, Horatio Acrylic on Fabric Size of Piece: 13 x 12 x 4 I choose articles of clothing for my images in an intuitive manner. For this work, I dissected a man's dress shirt, then reassembled and stitched the pieces into a composition that felt aesthetically pleasing. I discovered that it reminded me of the scene where Hamlet contemplates the skull of Yorick. In this case the relic is an everyday article of clothing that may be resurrected in the future. • Wolf Moon Soda fired stoneware Size of Piece: 18 x 18 x 16 I believe an artist must be deeply connected to the physical, metaphysical and spiritual world. Phenology of nature: Wolf Moon is one of a series of ceramic sculptures derived from direct observation of the night skies during different seasons. The Wolf Moon is a winter moon named by the Ojibwe. The concept of this moon is my direct observation contrasted with historical beliefs and the myths describing the phases of the moon. The ethereal beauty and emotive connection to nature is my inspiration. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Under Pressure Wood-fired stoneware, mink, cedar, iron Size of Piece: 22 x 20 x 8 Human Interference with Earth is the concept of this work. I grew up on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota where open pit, strip mining affected everyone's lives- positively and negatively. Today the scars of the iron ore mines still and forever will mark the earth. Today, I question mining methods and the impact on the earth's natural resources. In some instances, mining aids economic growth, but at what cost? Fresh water, air, wildlife and human habitat are under pressure. • Spirit Vessel with Gold Markings Shellac and gold flake on hardened cartapesta Size of Piece: 52 x 15 The sculpture explores the imprint of time, history, and mind on the interaction of materials, as experienced in myth, spirit, and the body. For this piece I created an armature of a young woman and wrapped her like an ancient Egyptian deity in layers of paper soaked in hardening agents. When she dried, I pulled her spirit’s shell away from the armature, creating a hollow vessel that viewers can look into to see where her spirit had once lived. Inside there remains a sense of beautiful nothingness that has joined the larger mind that flows through time, consciousness , relationships, challenges and opportunities. The outer Vessel shell represents the memory of love having passed through it, and I adorned it with golden circles and a triangle, symbols of perfection, strength and wealth. When I look at this piece, I can still feel that sense of being taken over by nature and embracing it fully. The sculpture is about letting go and embracing the unexpected moments in life that come our way.
