  • oil on canvas 20 x 24" “Just Before the Stars Come Out” speaks of the end of the day; when the moon is up, just before the stars are readily visible. That sky has the most beautiful shade of royal blue, like lapis lazuli. It only lasts for a moment but is such magic. “I often find myself painting in two’s – such as the two chairs or two lampposts. It suggests a story, and I’ve been told it’s romantic.” I work both from direct observation of nature and from imagination. My work is about color and feelings. The thrill for me in painting lies in the countless possibilities of the interjection of a single stroke of color, upon color. My art is my effort to capture a moment and preserve the uniqueness of it.

  • oil on canvas 26 x 22 x 2" Part of my Conversation Pieces series, this is a piece about the expressiveness of our hands as we converse with one another. I made up the green rings, because I liked the sound of it for the title. The Conversation,  painting suggests a conversation as one sits across the table from someone, implying a relationship between viewer and figure. There is also a connection with the viewer in the familiar habit of shared coffee. When I have my coffee, experiencing warmth on my hands, how many others are doing the same thing? What is familiar are gestures of hands--as stories are told--there is an underlying drama in the human exchange.

  • acrylic on canvas 36 x 24 x 1.5"
I like the ethereal quality of finding images and shapes within and behind other shapes. I find ways to find "safe passage" through the canvas, much as we all manuever through life and find our way. Life is like a puzzle and we all have to find a way to make all the pieces fit. Intuitively I convey feelings in a particular painting depending on my situation at the time..exploring the way shapes intersect in life and the way we someimes hide the obvious behind a mask. However I want the viewer to reach their own conclusions about what the symbolism may represent and decide what I may have been thinking.

  • Acrylic on Canvas 30 x 40  in
  • acrylic on canvas 48 x 60" I like soft colors and ways to find “safe passage” through the canvas, in the same way that we all maneuver through life and find our way. I want to create a feeling of depth, with forms intertwining, like stories of individuals in a city full of people. I strive to create contrast, vibrant interaction, raised and recessed surfaces, glossy and matte combined finishes. Life is a little like a puzzle and we all have to find our way to make the pieces fit. Intuitively, I convey my feelings in a particular painting, depending on my situation at the time… exploring the way shapes intersect in life and the way we sometimes hide the obvious behind a mask.

Photography Protection #3 12 x 11.5 x 1.75  in. Photography by nature allows alteration and transformation of scenes or events into personal alternate realities. I combine traditional techniques with contemporary ones. This enables me to record and then reinterpret the world around me. I work on an intuitive level without a predetermined image in mind. The serendipity of working in different mediums is what keeps me excited about experimenting with different photographic processes. This body of work addresses my fascination and love of lush gardens and landscapes. My choice of technique reflects my intention to evoke a feeling of romance while addressing the fragility of nature. • acrylic 21 x 17 x 1" I am currently working on a series of Strong Women, inspired by artists, writers, and other women of prominence in their fields who have demonstrated a passion for their work and a resilience to survive, sometimes against all odds.  By delving into the past as well as the present, through paintings and photography, I have been inspired to recreate those images in my own expressionistic style. It is an ongoing challenge and hope that the finished portrait will give a sense of immediacy and permanence to the subject, that the strength and depth will shine through.

  • acrylic 21 x 17 x 1" My Strong Women series focuses on subjects of historical and cultural, artistic or literary significance to our lives as women. These are expressionistic portraits that reach for an immediacy that resonates with the viewer and not be considered an attempt at a naturalistic rendition. As a writer/artist/photographer, I have also spent time working with the power of black and white (especially in photography) to convey the intended feeling. Translating this into the medium of painting is challenging ut a great satisfaction.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • acrylic 21 x 17 x 1" I have always been interested in the stories of women who create. Whatever the medium is--poetry, fiction, non-fiction, painting, sculpture, music--wherever the muse takes them. My own artistic career has been varied, with writing fiction, non-fiction (journalism) and painting taking precedence. A passion for photography has led to an interest in expressionistic portraiture, using photographs of artists, past and present, as a springboard for my own painting. Some believe that a photograph lies as it only captures a moment but what can be read in that moment has helped me in my own search for the truth behind the image., which has led to my Strong Women series.

My work is inspired by the natural environment and made to celebrate, memorialize, and preserve living entities during the ongoing climate crisis. Coral Group 3 is one of a series of work inspired by many visits to the Mesoamerican Reef off the coast of Belize. The incredible variations of colors, textures, and designs of the corals are translated into a wet felted 3-D textile sculpture. It invites the viewer into the flow, patterns, and textures that evoke a more emotional connection to the environment and its precarious balance due to climate change impact.

  • Clay 8 x 35 x 5" Clay as a medium allows a wealth of options as to color, texture, and form. In my sculpting journey I originally focused on figurative work, then became captivated by the natural forms of corals and their fragility because of climate change, and now occasionally morph a combination of these two forms. Exploring form and texture, and creating movement and strength, has led to a wide range of outcomes. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
