Painting The Forest Glows at Night 42 x 42 in. I live on the shoreline in eastern Connecticut where there is a bounty of inspiration. I began years ago as a landscape painter. Over time I transitioned into abstraction. I still consider myself a landscape painter but focusing more the abstract components of nature. My work explores patterns using aerial views of landscapes, i.e. coastlines, marshes, forests and rivers. I use symmetrical, asymmetrical, and organic shapes that I see around me. I am influenced by indigenous peoples, Japanese wood block prints and the work of Gustav Klimt. I don't sketch my ideas first but paint directly onto the canvas and create as I go along, Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic 16 x 20"The inspiration for this work comes from the highly invasive Oriental Bittersweet vine that grows in the woods behind my house.

Pastel 12 x 14" This 8 x 10” pastel was an experiment that started with a watercolor of cloud formations while looking out of my 4th floor studio window. I liked the composition but the shapes weren’t fluid and the colors needed nuance. Pastels breathed life into the colors and imagination took over for the cloud like forms emoting a feeling of infinite distance and depth.

digital fabricating to ink on paper, AP1 14 x 14"This QR code links to an animated portrait of Abraham Lincoln, where the digital marks of its creation unfold one-mark-at-a-time. The marks themselves are both a witness to the spirit of the man as well as to the medium that is defining our technological age. This portrait is part of a larger series of black and white drawings of Abraham Lincoln created by the artist during the tumult of the last presidential election.

conte crayon and ink on Sunset Velvet Rag 18 x 24 x 1" Perhaps in these times where we see women's rights being literally ripped away from us, we can be inspired by those in the past like Eleanor Roosevelt who battled the odds and never gave up -- she fought for us. Let's keep fighting with all we have, from protest marches to voting for change to electing a judicial body that speaks for us. We must use all the tools we have, including conte crayon on paper, to salute our heroines and ignite others to continue the good fight. The battle continues.

Acrylic 10 x 11 in. I see my work as an abstracted narrative. The figures seem to have something to say, or express; are often amid doing something and I feel the chatter in their heads. There’s a physicality in the work, the action of mind and body in the process. Showing what something feels like is what I hope to convey in paint. Puppeteer represents one from a series painted quickly and directly without prior drawing, leaving me open to being in response mode accessing motion and story without referencing much reality.

Oil on linen board 8 x 10 in. I grew up in Virginia and still feel drawn to the timelessness of farmland and historic places. My foxhunting scenes are taken from my firsthand, real-life observation, and they tell a story about the world of horses and their people. My landscapes celebrate the mood and mystery of wildlife in their natural habitat. I always strive to render these “stories” through my unique color palette and compelling brushwork – two features that I believe set my work apart. oil on canvas 11 x 14 x .5" Winter is one of my favorite times to paint. I love the quiet and cold--an utter slow-down to embrace the concept of stillness. These three paintings each depict the magic of that stillness--one, a frozen afternoon scene of the hunt, and two other two, dramatic glimpses of how the darkness illuminates the holiday lights like stars. Oil on canvas 21 x 25 in. LOOK OUTSIDE The model for this painting is my beautiful granddaughter Jamie, with gorgeous naturally curly saffron colored hair. She is only 8 years old here, but she is tall, making her look older. She is unaware of her natural youthful beauty. I love the lopsided bow on the back of her shirt. Seeing the work in progress, Jamie asked me to put an owl in the painting. I painted a barn owl in flight. The owl, like her wisdom, is coming towards her, but in her innocence, she looks the other way. Pensive (Jesse)This lovely young woman sits at the sweet threshold of adulthood. Her skin is soft and rosy. She's surrounded by hearth and home. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.
