bronze 13 x 12 x 4.5" My first job after college was as a graphic designer in Lexington, Ky. Having ridden my whole life, I always wanted to train a young horse. A friend said, you have to see this colt, he’s headed to the kill pens. I paid the kill price, he’d never been handled, came right over to me, & followed me. 18 mo. old and he knew. He walked right on the trailer. For almost 20 years, Maximillion was my constant companion & soulmate through 3 states, new jobs, new relationships. Sane, willing and smart. Maximillion earned us many championships including National ones. He got sick one day, suddenly. He was almost twenty and retired, He didn’t make it through surgery. This sculpture is dedicated to him.

Painting Above the Skyline 60 x 48 x 1.5 in. My paintings are very textural. The smoothness, roughness and softness of the paint on the canvas reveal the feelings of calm, energy and resiliency. My paintings hold hundreds of lines, angles and shapes. Texture is created with the palette knife and is either quickly or slowly pushed across the surface. Paint applied in a slow billowy swirl or hard structural edges depict life’s ups and downs. My work shows a love of design and representational art. The past has come and gone and the future is something to dream away this moment to be revealed in my art. Sterling silver on prepared paper 12 x 9 in. Crinum lilies ’queens of the forest’, suddenly send up their spikes and flower, fragrantly and elegantly, in late summer. Their sculptural form and grace seem to lend themselves to silverpoint, a medium which in any case has traditionally been used for botanical studies. oil on canvas 24 x 24 x 1.5" My world is best described as colorful and rhythmic. My paintings explore themes of the human condition, identity, and self-reflection, and this energetic piece strikes the balance between introspection and contemporary cultural influences. My work is process-oriented and this deeply layered, textured painting is inspired by my own memories and moments of love, joy, spirituality, conflict and resolution. I paint intuitively as I create with both reckless abandon and bold strokes that feel like an emergency and careful restraint and meticulous, purposeful marks. I love sharing the intent behind each piece but am most interested in what my work evokes for the viewer.

acrylic, iridescent silver, & silver leaf on cradled wood panel 12 x 12 x 1.5" The focus in my art is to create works that evoke light, depth, and energy using striking juxtapositions of color. I seek to achieve luminosity in my work, using the effects of color and contrast to create these illusions of light and buoyancy. This "months of the year" series explores the light and energy of winter, in a different way than my typically bright palettes do; the light on snow, the reflective surface glinting in the sun, the rich saturation of color within a white-washed landscape is a softer wave of energy. The blues of a winter scene are vivid and deep, and veer towards purples. The use of abstraction to create these pieces was an opportunity to visually imply the energy and feeling of frozen winter scenes with all of the sparkle and shimmer of sunlight or moonlight on a surface of snow. Winter carries the energy of wind, blowing swirls of snow or tossing lazy flakes in slow motion to the ground. There is depth and a three dimensional quality about snow and ice that is intriguing in its luminosity. There can also be a quiet stillness to a winter scene that makes time stand still. Pastel 14.5 x 14.5" In all my work I try to create depth and dimension through colors, lines, and marks, drawing the viewer into my paintings, to give them a reason to look deeper into the underlying structure of the work. This piece “Mod Orange” was an exploration of the spectrum of orange. I used acrylic on a canvas paper substrate in a variety of shades and shapes. To heighten the range, I used gold leaf and metallic gold acrylic paint, glazing with orange pigments. Pastels rubbed into the surface allowed me to blend and connect the composition.

collage; newsprint, dyed papers, recycled plastics and sashiko stitching with a vintage wood clotheshanger 36 x 17 x 3" "OMG” is a part of a series called "Woman is Boss", that makes art from the past, present. Japanese women from vintage newspapers and a 1937 travel book are shown in more submissive roles compared to women as they are viewed now. The name is derived from the facial expression of the large standing female figure on the left side viewing the female images around her. Inspiration came from repurposing a plastic commercial swimsuit hanger. This series of artworks utilizes recycled plastics, dyed papers as well as ancient newspapers, antique buttons and Sashiko stitching to create art using the female torso hanger shape.
