  • Tuk Sip

acrylic, handprinted paper, collage on canvas board

    Size of Piece: 9 x 12 x .25

'Offering' was inspired by a trip to India where I participated in a service project. I had made a strong, non-verbal connection with this woman which seemed to grow stronger as the weeks passed. On the final day, she invited me into her home and offered a chai tea to share with her, along with one rupee she had kept hidden behind the counter. Her daughter commented thatches was her gift to me. the woman held my hand tightly as we left for the bus-- and followed my eyes through the bus' window as I sat to leave.. both of us in tears. I wanted to capture that moment when the connection felt as if we were just two women- our shared experiences reflected in each others eyes- no matter how far apart our worlds were. The other piece-'Tuk Sip' from a trip to Cambodia (Tuk=water)

  • Reflection oil on canvas
    Size of Piece: 36 x 24 x 1
When I created Reflection, I asked myself: Who am I? In this painting, I see myself as a Divine Warrior, yet not one dressed in heavy battle armor. Instead, I chose to reveal her strength through contrasts—the grandeur of gold and the delicacy of a soft pink nightgown. To me, this symbolizes the truth of womanhood: we carry both resilience and tenderness, power and vulnerability, often all at once. The helmet becomes more than protection; it is a veil. I am not looking out into the world—I am looking within. This inner gaze reflects the search for identity, the quiet power of self-knowledge, and the courage to face the truths we hold inside. Reflection is both a portrait and a mirror, asking the viewer to pause and wonder: When you strip away the armor, who are you?

  • Who Do You Love? oil on canvas
    Size of Piece: 30 x 24 x 1
Artwork 1: A young woman leans toward her reflection, kissing herself in the mirror. The image speaks not only of solitude, but of the eternal human desire to be seen and loved. In today’s world, the phrase “love yourself” is repeated endlessly-sometimes as healing wisdom, sometimes as a shallow slogan. Is self-embrace the beginning of true connection, or a sign of how distant we have grown from one another? The mirror becomes a symbol of both intimacy and isolation. And it asks us all, in the quiet of our own hearts: Who Do You Love? Artwork 2: Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love, beauty, and desire, embodies both passion and grace. Born from the sea foam, she symbolizes the power of attraction, creativity, and the eternal force of love that connects all beings.

  • Trail to Chickenfoot Lake polymer photogravure etching on paper
    Size of Piece: 8 x 10
“Trail to Chickenfoot Lake” is from a photo I took hiking along Rock Creek in the John Muir Wilderness, with the dramatic clouds and high Sierra backdrop. There is much observation, contemplation, and personal, internal reflection inspired by the magnificence of such grandeur which is captured in the exquisitely detailed etching. “Into the Vineyard” is from a photo I took in the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma. It is printed direct-to-plate and inked À la poupée with 3 different black inks to create the nuanced feel of looking into the bright, hot vineyard from the cool, vine-covered walkway. After a lazy afternoon in the tasting room, the natural beauty of the valley and the vineyards create a contemplative, reflective state that is translated into this finely detailed etching.

  • Moment in the Movement oil on canvas
    Size of Piece: 30 x 40 .75
Moment in the Movement is inspired by Bonnie Kerness, a friend and nationally-recognized leader in the U.S. prison abolition movement. Here, Bonnie is rendered using a photo I took of her during a strategy meeting of local advocates in her 50-year role as Director of the Prison Watch Program, an arm of the American Friends Service Committee. Hunched in a gesture of weighty reflection, but perhaps also in prayer, she is cloaked by a life-affirming blue-green that contrasts with an ominousness dark background. The watery movement of her spectacular crown of white hair exists in tension with sharp, foreboding shapes surrounding, and within, her face. It was my aim to evoke a sense of bruising vulnerability, a compassionate melancholy, and also a kind of populist regality.

I generally make the car the star of my painting but I need to keep it in context so I create as much or as little of the surrounding scene as suits me.

  • What Do Her Sunglasses Reflect? collage
    Size of Piece: 10 x 10 x .75
This collage of a woman on a lounge chair represents a state of relaxation and reflection. I'm interested in using various color schemes that I think emphasize states of mind. In this case, the simplicity of black and white with touches of red--and her sunglasses, a visual reference to reflection. The title of the piece is a question since we can't see what the sunglasses are reflecting. I especially like working in the medium of collage because it gives me an almost unlimited supply of materials.

  • Beehive Ginger Portrait - Costa Rica

    photograph on canvas

    Size of Piece: 16 x 16

Walking through the tropical area of a Costa Rican coffee plantation, I discovered these vibrant beehive ginger plants. I spent an hour capturing them from different perspectives, ultimately focusing on the spiral pattern at the very top of the bloom. This overhead view emphasizes the bold fuchsia color, geometric structure, and natural symmetry of this tropical flower. Placing the image against a black background—my signature approach to floral portraits—transforms the living plant into a sculptural study that reveals the universal beauty found in nature's diverse forms.

    oil on passwood panel

    Size of Piece: 19.25 x 19.25

After graduating college with a degree in Studio Art, I branched out into Graphic Design and mural painting, while continuing to paint on canvas when I had time.

In recent years, with an empty nest and more time, I’ve been painting much more prolifically. While I feel that I’m still learning and will continue to learn with every single new painting, I also feel as if I’ve finally reached a point where I know what I’m trying to express. I’ve also honed my skills to a level where I’m able to effectively convey my concepts.

I've also been showing my work much more publicly and frequently--in group shows in the tristate area in the last few years, with two solo shows since 2019, and another coming up in 2026. I'm thrilled to be a member of NAWA, and have my work shown in this exhibit.

  • Trees Die Standing

    acrylic on canvas

    Size of Piece: 14 x 14

    Trees Die Standing

This painting is inspired from a favorite Spanish play I read by Alejandro Cosana called “Los Árboles Mueren de Pie” translated it means Trees Die Standing. The story is about a family trying to prevent their elderly matriarch from hearing tragic news for fear it might kill her. She finally hears the news and continues strong taking care of the family. She says she is dead inside, but still standing, like a tree dies standing up.

“Do not see me fall. Dead inside, but standing tall. Like a tree.”

It reminds me of women who are nurturing caregivers of children and elderly, who need to show strength by standing strong, despite their grief.

  • The Great Divide

    mixed media fabric collage

    Size of Piece: 10.5 x 10

My artwork is a fusion of traditional and experimental media, incorporating collage with fiber, painted fabric, printmaking and hand stitching. My color palette is inspired by colors of nature, with contrast created by the juxtaposition of texture and media. I hand paint and print natural fabrics with acrylics and watercolor. Color families emerge, a collage begins, and I begin to stitch.

The Great Divide was created using an intuitive process. I created a balanced composition with hand printed papers, commercial fabrics and painted fabrics. The botanical square is a gel print; the cheesecloth "fabric" is acrylic paint using unconventional mark making tools. Once I established my collage, I began to use thread as structure and mark making. The strong diagonal is my Great Divide.

  • Can't Thread the Needle

    acrylic and graphite on canvas

    Size of Piece: 12 x 12 x 1.5

The roots of my work can be traced to my academic studies in Fiber Art. Contemporary women icons studied were Sheila Hicks, Olga de Amarel, Lenore Tawney, Claire Zeisler and Adela Akers just to name a few. There were very few men making their mark with fiber as historically it was “women’s work”.  Relegated to “craft” rather than “fine art” further denigrated this art form.

ABSTRACTION was and still is a key component in the Fiber Arts. These explorations of form, texture, pattern and color is my life-long study and practice.  It was a natural progression for me to continue to investigate these qualities of abstraction when I pivoted from fiber to paint and canvas.

This piece is part of a new body of work applying my deep roots to fiber to abstract painting.

These buoys were hanging at a pier on West 41st St. in New York City. I loved the unexpectedness of the buoys, with odd shapes and unpredictable colors. Their distressed quality made for a more interesting subject. I painted this realistically but with the hope that the final outcome would have abstract qualities.

My artistic approach is mostly intuitive with a constant awareness of color combination and contrast. The use of strong colors is a direct influence of my Brazilian heritage. Using fabric as the medium to create my art pieces was a natural choice since I have been working with it from my teenage years.

  • Undergrowth iV

    acrylic and charcoal on canvas

    Size of Piece: 24 x 20

Having a solid foundation in Natural History and Botany, I find myself inspired by nature at both macro and micro levels. I am captivated by the shapes, structures, and colors of the stems, leaves, flowers, roots, and fruits of the plants I am familiar with. My more recent projects delve into the complexity and interwoven aspects of gardens and natural environments. Typically, I begin a piece with a charcoal drawing, followed by an underpainting in acrylic, where I layer warm and cool colors alternately. The finished artwork emerges through dynamic brushwork, aiming to convey both energy and texture.

  • The Rendezvous

    watercolor pencil

    Size of Piece: 15 x 15 x .75

In The Rendezvous, two small creatures--alternately half bird/animal and half human--in an idyllic garden are balancing on a mostly real flower.  Although it looks unreal.

Who or what is the "better half"?  Why?  How does picking a partner who has qualities you are missing or wanting play out?  One might allow any associations it flower and go to seed.

Representing my thoughts on relationships visually provokes thoughts not only in viewers but in me as well.  I think that much of life feels unreal partly because the unconscious and subconscious are running the show that we call life.
