  • collage 17 x 19"
During a month-long residency in Ireland I became entranced by the rich textures of stacked stone walls and pointed silhouettes of rooftops across the moody grey skies. As a figurative artist I was pleasantly surprised to see these architectural elements seep into my work. Ann’s Dairy came to me at the completion of my residency and captures the essence of a day spent in the countryside. This small, but mighty piece incorporates my gestural approach to figure drawing using handprinted papers to weave a tapestry that blurs the line between structure and nature.

  • charcoal, graphite, & ink collaged on gallery wrapped canvas 20 x 21 x 1.5" Finding Space boldly displays a figure I have been exploring for some time. Once timid and unsure, she is now settling into her environment, pushing against, and past, boundaries placed around her. While this piece did not begin as a true self-portrait, it grew into a solid representation of my own emergence as an artist. Reinventing myself in this next stage of life has brought me face-to-face with insecurity and self-doubt, but also revealed a strength and determination once forgotten. • Copper etching in black on white paper
    5.5 x 3.5"
On the Border is an etching based on an original landscape drawing done of a creek that marks the border between two states. Reflection following an unexpected illness in late fall prompted me to return to etching copper plates, the metal that first attracted me to printmaking. A harder substance that requires slow-biting ferric acid, copper draws out the production process but allows the artist to work in greater detail and delve deeper into the quality of line. The result is always worth the wait. Copper creates its own magical world, a visual link to printmakers of the past.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • drypoint print with embossing 8 x 6" The dry point “My Eumenides” was inspired by the haunting visions described in the memoirs of Thomas De Quincey "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater." Opium was De Quincey’s escape ticket out of the wretched reality of early 19th century London. In his nightmares, we can see a parallel to the confusion and angst humankind experiences in post-modern times and our dangerous need to sedate ourselves from pain. A series of wondrous and terrifying scenes, "Confessions" compels the reader to visualize the spectacular architecture of De Quincey’s dream world. By making solid the nightmares of societal and personal failings, this book continues to illuminate human suffering.

The Forest Inscapes came about accidentally, as I was experimenting with dripping paint on wood panels. I had used dripping extensively in my large Erosion paintings, in which the drips formed veils of color. In a smaller format, the columns of paint looked like trees. Thus were born the Forest Inscapes, which have evolved to reflect the seasons in the forest around my studio. Forest Inscape #28 is an interpretation of the glittering effect of early evening light seen through the screen of forest foliage.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • acrylic on wood 24 x 20 x 1.5" This painting was begun experimentally by dripping paint, which I then slashed through. I had the idea of making some sort of dense floral, decorative abstraction, but it evolved into the painting of a hedge. Adding the doorway transformed it from a landscape into a mindscape, as we are invited to explore unseen depths.

  • acrylic on wood panel 24 x 20 x 1.5" This painting was started experimentally by dripping paint and slashing through it to create decorative vines. A landscape was painted around these vines, and the painting was shown with this image. Later, I decided to weave more vines over the landscape, The weaving forms a thick veil through which the original landscape can be viewed, like a memory or mysterious fantasy.

Coming Soon is part of the ongoing series of Bog Bodies I started in 2008. While exploring the theme of Bog Bodies and the constant cycle of all organisms, our impact on the environment and daily living took me on a side road to look for more. Water is the most important part of keeping everything alive, and my theme flowing. But when nature takes a turn and brings drought, it leaves an imprint on my ideas. And my ideas affect every single aspect of my life.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

I create expressive sculptural forms from natural materials, drawing inspiration from both nature and the human figure, yet venturing toward abstraction. The essence of my work often embodies a biomorphic aesthetic, offering a tangible representation of our human connection to the environment. The idiosyncrasies of each piece of stone or wood present unique technical and creative opportunities. I approach this with a blend of intuitive and calculated design solutions. The inspiration for this work was to upcycle leftover pieces in my studio. I am also venturing into working additively instead of subtractively.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • sculpture 10 x 12 x 7" I create expressive sculptural forms from natural materials, drawing inspiration from both nature and the human figure, yet venturing toward abstraction. The essence of my work often embodies a biomorphic aesthetic, offering a tangible representation of our human connection to the environment. The idiosyncrasies of each piece of stone or wood present unique technical and creative opportunities. I approach this with a blend of intuitive and calculated design solutions, constantly seeking to unveil the spirit inherent in each material. Employing pneumatic and electrical tools, I meticulously finalize the finish through hand polishing. When I engage directly with the process, it transcends to an unconscious state of mind. I commence by studying the stone or piece of wood—observing its shape, color, and constitution. I inquire, 'What is it telling me?' and envision how I can breathe life into it through movement, revealing the beauty concealed within and the spirit that resonates with the viewer. The stone both inspires and teases me. As I progress with a particular vision, I sometimes find myself uncovering an entirely different one. The process of carving into a piece of living, natural material elicits moments of joy and excitement, intertwined with periods of doubt and struggle.   Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Picasso marble on a marble base 14 x 10 x 7" I chose the stone because of its interesting coloring while understanding it would be a challenge to carve. The mixture of colors, combination of elements it was composed of, and the dry brittle quality would make it difficult to control. I kept the form simple because of the complex design, yet I wanted the dynamic of the piece moving through space, inspired by the name of the stone, “Picasso,”: thus, the title Harlequin. I utilized power tools to avoid unwanted breaks. The process was direct carving meaning that I had no preconceived idea or model to refer to. Through both an intuitive process and calculated design solutions. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
  • Sculpture 9.75 x 14 x 6"

My sculpture is inspired by the human connection to nature. I use natural materials to create organic forms that move through space. The delicate translucency of calcite or the heavy trunk of wood, both present unique technical and creative opportunities.

  • stone 17 x 6 x 6"
I create sculptural forms from natural materials, drawing inspiration from nature yet veering towards abstraction. The essence of my work often embodies a biomorphic aesthetic. Calling II, was created from a marble that seems embedded with fossilized bits that inspired a primitive bird like form. It is also the same stone that I used to create Calling, an earlier sulpture.

Moving on in life I became steadily aware of the fact that my relationship with dreams and aspirations had become disconnected, survival became the guiding star. Stepping back and embracing larger constellations, realizing that all lives have an end date, it was time to make the most of what time I do have left, which is to nurture my original impulses and challenges while at the same time creating  meaningful connections between how I feel and ways to express it. • Acrylic 12 x 12" Painting is something I returned to in the last few years after a 4 decade detour into show business. • Oil 14 x 11 in. The series that includes “Perfect Light” examines the nature of adolescence as a transitional state, delving into the often mysterious spaces within relationships. These are not simply figure paintings. While the paint surface is luminous and detailed, opacity also comes into play. What is more opaque than adolescence? We look deeply into these images full of secrecy, vulnerability and defiance, see their awkwardness - and revisit our own memories filtered through the lens of adolescence.

  • Painting Will You Catch Me? 16 x 16 x 2 in. This piece- Will You Catch Me? - was part of a body of work inspired by 'play'- in the way that many artists, such as myself,  utilize playfulness to get into the process of art making. With this piece, my process started with mark making, collage. painting, removing, drawing into, printmaking, until ideas began to emerge - a fantasy under and over water perhaps (?) since I am surrounded by quarries and ocean. Eventually a theme around risk-taking (with or without a net) began to surface. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between the artist and buyer after the purchase.

  • graphite, watercolor, charcoal, & white ink 15 x 15 x 1.5" In the last three years, preoccupation with the covid virus made every decision more urgent and uncertain. Isolation and extreme personal loss made the Covid Series necessary. Some testimony of the physical and emotional barriers, as well as the confusion, and strange hope of these days seemed important to commit to paper. Each work in this series shows contemplative aspects of these personally difficult years for me, but sadly many other people may connect with these experiences also.
