finger painted oil on canvas 24 x 30 x 1.78" My art explores the relationship between perception and imagination. Created as an antidote to stress, I use visually calming forms and optical illusions to imbue a sense of wonder. I work in various media. In my upcycled sculptures, I transform mass-produced consumer goods into organic forms that float at the ceiling, cascade down the wall, and glow in the dark. I also communicate through high-tone and gilded paintings, luminous ink paintings, and fractal-like photographic designs in limited editions of five that are dye-sublimated onto aluminum panels. I often hide tiny positive messages in my art that range from large-scale to miniature, many of which play with light. Through my work, I create opportunities that invite tuning into the present moment and letting everything else disappear as curiosity takes over because everyone benefits when they experience a dopamine release. This feel-good chemical has the power to shift perspective and positively impact the world. I play with perception and imagination through the Fauvist lens in my submitted work. Native color is replaced with tonal cousins, sharing a version of reality that exists in my mind. I love the grandeur of the mountainscape and allow my interpretation to guide my work. This painting has the word “LOVE” snuggled within it as a talisman for what we all want to find within our hearts when we experience the natural world, especially in Winter. May my frozen dreams and abstract realities call Winter’s dual nature to mind and ignite your curiosity! oil, resin, intestinal lining on wood panel 80 x 36 x 2" My paintings blend classical techniques with avant-garde mediums and invite us to transcend traditional art's boundaries, encouraging a dialogue between the known and the unknown. I extract flesh from shadow, unveiling the unseen and inviting viewers into a world where the mystical and modern coalesce. In my work, I compose a space for introspection, where viewers can embark on a personal journey to unearth the hidden truths within themselves and the universe they inhabit. Painting becomes a ritual, a conduit for channeling raw and arcane forces from the depths of my subconscious. The deliberate use of texture and pattern engages the senses, compelling viewers to see and feel the complex interplay of elements within my creations. It adds a unique and visceral dimension to my work. The goal is not to elicit a singular interpretation but to create a visual moment that urges reflection on the profound connection between humanity, the natural world, and the divine. My work is a journey into the realms of the soul, where the sacred and the mundane coexist, and the boundaries between life and death blur. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

oil & oil pastel 24 x 20 x 1.5" Flowers of Cost Rica #3 draws inspiration from the captivating allure of Costa Rica's rain forest. oil on canvas 20 x 30 x 1" Flowers and landscapes are my passion. Whether working in the garden or enjoying nature, I try to capture the fleeting moment, be it a flower in bloom, trees changing the color of their leaves during the fall, or shrubs with swelling buds during the spring. My camera is always ready in my hands. Millbrook in June, was created after I visited the area. One sunny day during summer, I went there on an excursion and was stunned by the beauty of that place. A man-made lake and the surrounding territory form a picturesque landscape on the outskirts of Millbrook, NY. Whether working in the garden or enjoying nature, I try to capture the fleeting moment, be it a flower in bloom, trees changing the color of their leaves during the fall, or shrubs with swelling buds during the spring. My camera is always ready in my hands. Still Life with Chrysanthemums, was finished in October of 2022 when chrysanthemums were in full bloom. I especially love these beautiful yellow flowers because they remind me of the departing summer sun. They brighten the room on a gloomy Autumn day. oil on canvas 34 x 57" This work is a psychological portrait set in a fantastic reality. I try to remove any remnants of present-day reality. Fugio is more about speed at an altitude that provides a curious perspective from alternating views. A study of mother and son. I shall leave it at that finding too much explanation can distort the viewers personal interpretation and relationship with the work. acrylic on paper, cut into pieces and woven 19 x 25" Trying new things always interests me! I have worked with many different mediums in many different ways, and this past year I have found some new ways to work with paper. Using some of my collection of papers and weaving the papers makes an intricate relationship of the papers and expresses a new-found way of interaction. Working with acrylic pens in my sketchbook has lead me to a joyful way of expression. It is drawing and painting together in a new way. Using my sketchbook work to produce bigger sizes is what is happening. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

oil on Arches oil paper, mounted on stretched canvas 30 x 44.5 x 1.25" My concept of the seams of a society, as on a garment, refers to being placed at the edge, marginalized, or disenfranchised, but this can also indicate conditions that hold a people together, that bind. Each of my “Seams” works takes the viewer on a cultural journey. I want you to meet a few of my friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in places I have had the great fortune to visit or to work. I am excited to show how culture and economics shape people’s lives. I hope you can imagine the lives of the people I try to portray. I want to challenge stereotypes in the figurative and cultural depiction of people. In my current series of paintings, I explore the lives of Africans in Karatu, Tanzania, a rural town where I have lived and worked over several summers as a physician. People who work in or are served by the hospital live with the lingering effects of colonialism. They grapple with political, educational, and economic conditions that make it difficult to advance. I have been painting with oil on paper that I mount on canvas. I utilize my own handmade stamps developed from traditional Tanzanian kitenge cloth to print the backgrounds. My goal is to offer you a moment to slow your mind as you imagine the lives of others and explore with me the “Seams of Societies”. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic on canvas 24 x 24 x 1.5" My art is influenced as much by dreams and my subconscious as by my experiences and what is happening around me. Growing up in multiple cultures, and experiencing different sights, sounds and smells, influences my work. Undeniably, my love of fairy tales, fiction, fantasy, and sci-fi seeps through as well. I like to tell stories through my work and infuse it with a bit of levity and humor. I paint mostly in acrylics and gouache, and I love experimenting with mixed media, using scraps of wood, fabric fragments and other “stuff” lying around. As I work, I get inspired with new images, so I find myself sometimes working on several paintings at the same time. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

multiple photographs layered in Photoshop 16.5 x 11" Who am I? Who are you? Usually we see ourselves or others from a single perspective--especially in photography. That is why many celebrities feel they must only be photographed from a certain (most flattering) angle. But Picasso understood that even when we are looking at an object, a person we are really seeing everything we know about that individual. He applied this concept especially when depicting his beloveds and his rejected beloveds. I love the idea of multiple images incorporated into a photo, a medium that theoretically only captures a single moment in time. wood, Prisma Stix, & white pencil on rusted grid 6 x 6 x 6" I love trees. Gathering felled branches and sticks on hikes in the mountains, walking in the woods that surround my home, or exploring neighborhoods, fills me with joy and awe of the natural world. In preparation for carving, I am intoxicated by the texture, the smell, and the snap when reducing the length of the stick. silkscreen printing on black velvet, CMYK 39.37 x 27.55" Persian Tigress Serenade: The Velvet Bond is a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. Using the intricate Persian Miniature motifs, I've crafted this piece through silkscreen printing on black velvet, employing the vivid CMYK color palette. The artwork, measuring 39.37 H x 27.55 W, pays homage to the rich artistic heritage of Persia while embracing contemporary techniques. It's a visual journey that bridges the past and present, inviting viewers to appreciate the timeless beauty of Persian culture in a modern context. Through this artwork, I aim to capture the essence of cultural continuity and the enduring allure of Persian aesthetics. inked plexi plates, printed on rives bfk paper 23 x 24 x 24" As I approached working away from my studio during the Covid 19 'stay at home' order, I worked small, using material that I had at hand, including family debris monoprints, created by layering inked printing plates with my family's ephemeral & permanent cast offs, a record of the mundane and obsolete. After completing a large series of small ‘art in isolation’ mixed media prints, I went 3d, using double sided family debris monoprints as components for building sculptural forms. Folded paper vessels were stitched together to create abstract sculptures that pushed the limits of paper, ink and thread. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

oil, colored pencil 17 x 11 x 1.5" My wish is to make connections between things I understand and things I don't. After my daughter's death, I read about the ancient tabernacle in Jerusalem. It had curtains of scarlet, purple, and indigo. I painted circles, triangles, and squares using these colors. In the middle of the painting I placed the letters of her name--b i d u-- copied numerous times onto a white rectangle. Why? I can't say. But this painting evokes a feeling of the sublime for me at a time of upheaval and loss. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

watercolor painting on Khadi paper with acrylic pen & collage 20 x 16 x 1" I am an abstract painter, and I work primarily in watercolors with mixed media elements. I’m inspired by the interplay of colors, shapes, and uneven lines, and I love the fluid, unpredictable nature of watercolor paints. I work very intuitively: I always have a starting point - a particular color combination or focal point - but then I just go wherever inspiration leads me. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

encaustic on wool, silk, paper, & cotton 5.5 x 9.5 x 1" Dot Bergen is fascinated by processes that reference the passage of time; nature profoundly influences her work. She has always been captivated with mineralization, fossilization, weathering and erosion. There is beauty and power in change, but there is also a sense of vulnerability, the idea that nothing is constant. "Creating a temporal landscape of an ongoing process encourages the viewer to contemplate the past conditions contributing to this portrayal." In Dead Man's Party, Dot explores the fragility of the human relationship with the ever-changing natural world. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

digital drawing on Wacom tablet using digital brushes: watercolor, charcoal, & pastels 15 x 20 x 1" Moonlit Magnolia represents one of my mental places where I go to do my profound thinking. The unobstructed watercolor background of teal creates this velvety feel that is almost tangible. The magnolia tree with its twisted roots is a metaphor for the thoughts on which the dog is resting (with the dog being a self-portrait) whereas the crescent moon is the obvious source of light that can be translated as hopes and dreams. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
-
oil on gallery wrapped canvas 20 x 20" I am quite taken by trees in nature. I live in Maine for most of the seasons and am always finding new excitement in paintingmy surroundings. Birch trees are my laborite because they have fascinating patterns in the bark and branches. My career as a textile designer has influenced how I see the patterns. My other strength is color. I am experimenting in values rather than chroma and find it has made my art more exciting. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
-
oil on panel 12 x 12" My paintings refer to the mystery, power and spirituality of the landscape. They speak of hope and optimism, while they also recognize humankind's insignificance in relation to the universe. The work is not about realistic forms but rather my response to what I see —the colors, shapes and atmosphere. My intention is to reflect nature's timeless cycle, the ephemeral sense of life, and the question of what else might be. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
-
punch needle embroidery 30 x 24 x 1" In an effort to reject the insinuations often thrust upon the female form, this work presents a highly rigid and resolutely geometric portrait of a woman, without a stroke of curvature. This work's depiction of a fractured facial profile aims to highlight the oftentimes nonexistent boundary between one’s ability to feel beautiful and overt sexualization when externally perceived. By abstracting identifiable features and removing individual characteristics to varying degrees, this work re-examines our perceptions on “appropriateness”. My mission is to create broadly familiar subjects that reflect femininity as part of the Whole rather than the Individual. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
-
mixed media painting using collaged hand painted papers 22 x 22 x 2" Excited by the way colorful shapes fit together, how a line on the surface can cause movement, the surprise of embedded bits of pattern -- my work is playful and energetic. I am almost completely concerned with how the elements of art come together to make a strong composition. Sometimes compared to aerial views, puzzle pieces locked together and urban grids, in my work, these are qualities sensed rather than seen. While the result is abstract, every piece begins with a reference – a concrete memory, sensation or even a photograph of a place I have traveled. For viewers, the experience is about creativity and curiosity, moving in close to see the layers, and asking themselves “what is this?” Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

ware-soluble media, India ink, acrylic paint, & acrylic paint marker 24 x 24 x 2.5" Other Dimensions is in my 'Celestial' series. Outerspace, clouds, floating, weightlessness, ... I feel like I'm looking into other dimensions or other worlds places I want to go and see. Where will it take me? With many layers of complex and pure color receding and coming forward. I especially enjoy beginning with water-soluble mark making media of various line qualities. Using my favorite brush, I move colored India Ink around on the canvas to create lovely grays. I then add acrylic paint as I respond to what is happening on the surface. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
-
fine pencil drawing and watercolor on Arches Watercolor paper 12 x 18 x 1" Drawing and painting watercolors is something I have loved to do. As an artist, I work hard to develop paintings that speak both to me and to others. Making art creates an opportunity evoke emotions and feelings and to transport the viewer to another “place”. For the last 20 years, I have been working with watercolors. The beauty of the medium is its luminosity and transparency. There are many subjects and themes I have been interested in over the years. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
-
mixed media 20 x 20 x 1" Playfulness is a sneaky way to allow the audience the freedom to enjoy new ideas. I use humor and whimsy to create unexpected associations that people can recognize. Bringing their own unique experiences and personal connections to my art, they are delighted when they feel a particular artwork is speaking directly to them. The story is something they can personally relate to, just like I do. I particularly enjoy the look in the eyes of an observer when they realize they are seeing a familiar tale, something from their own life, sometimes even a memory. There is excited screaming and laughing and so much thanks. I get a lot of hugs! Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
-
painted steel wire on wood panel 17 x 12 x 1" My art is about closeness and the play of tensions that exist in our relationships. It has always centered the human figure, growing from single-figure studies to the portrayal of interacting groups. It directly reflects how deeply a desire for closeness has always existed in me. My parents suffered extreme early traumas, leaving them fearful of exploitation by strangers and uncomfortable in communities. As a result, I am extremely sensitive to the damage to people, communities, and nations when we are not able to become close and find trust through recognition of our similarities and negotiation of our differences. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic paint 14 x 11 x 1" Inspired by the French artists Chardin and Oudry 's raw meat paintings, this painting employs a trompe-loeil technique. The leg of lamb is also symbolic. acrylic & gel medium on canvas 20 x 20 x 1.5" The initial inspiration for this painting came from some of the beautiful images seen from the James Webb Space Telescope. My goal was to mix texture and colors to highlight the counterplay of the darkness of space and the amazing light and colors captured in those images. The texture creates a sense of motion with the focal point representing the revelation of a distant source of light. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic and oil pastel on canvas 16 x 20" This piece is part of the Open to Interpretation Collection, which explores the ways in which we handle conflict and communicate (or don’t) with those around us - and the impact that has on our personal emotional landscapes. In a culture where many of us are too busy to actually look inward and be honest with ourselves, it is that much harder to be honest with each other. And whether with those closest to us or strangers - when we don’t communicate, we leave it open to interpretation. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

wax, pastel, ink 21 x 17" The drawing was done in presence of the model through superimposition of multiple fast poses in one session. The drawing was later completed through emergence of the figure. This drawing is part of a series of drawings which will be used for the production of a short stop motion animation. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Picasso marble on a marble base 14 x 10 x 7" I chose the stone because of its interesting coloring while understanding it would be a challenge to carve. The mixture of colors, combination of elements it was composed of, and the dry brittle quality would make it difficult to control. I kept the form simple because of the complex design, yet I wanted the dynamic of the piece moving through space, inspired by the name of the stone, “Picasso,”: thus, the title Harlequin. I utilized power tools to avoid unwanted breaks. The process was direct carving meaning that I had no preconceived idea or model to refer to. Through both an intuitive process and calculated design solutions. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

color photoscreenprint 20 x 28 x 1" The Hudson River is an exciting place! This work celebrates the Hudson and is from a series of prints on rowing from the point of view of an involved participant on the river. The view is from the second seat from the in a four person (quad) scull and is of the rowers taking a break. The piece is from a series of prints on rowing from the point of view of a participant. The on-river iconic scene includes The Walkway Over the Hudson and the F.D.R. Mid-Hudson Bridge in the background. -
oil pastel on yupo 7.5 x 7.5" Using collage, I explore memory, perception and the layering of one upon the other. There is a layered history to the collage pieces used as they are remnants taken from another artwork. The nicks, smudges and reductive linework of these pieces are expanded upon, adding to the developing narrative. The chair is my motif of choice. As a ubiquitous presence in our day to day lives, it has rich metaphorical meaning. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

acrylic on canvas 18 x 14 x 2" This scene speaks to me as the objects remind me of my mom who very recently died. She had a way of making things very "hygge" or cozy, for us. The things, or ideas of things-like tea and homemade raisin bread, surround me and feel like a tangible extension of her love. (The flowers are flowers I received when she passed, from my friends and relatives. She was flower fancier too, and I know she would have loved these.) It's been very healing to paint these things. Painting this scene helps me process my grief. It may all sound a bit cliche, but it still resonates. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

mixed media: acrylic, ink, pencil, oil pastel on canvas panel 13 x 16 x 1" Seeking to create deeper relationship with each viewer, no matter their experience or background, my visual language consistently relies upon the use of layers and color theory to invoke dimension and vibration. An abstract conceptual artist, my hope is to sustain conversations about our common needs and desires as a species, including companionship, safety, food, shelter, purpose, joy, understanding, compassion, wonder, belonging, comfort, and love. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.
