acrylic 30 x 30 x 1.5" A native New Yorker who has recently moved full time to Montauk, NY, I find the extraordinary sunsets throughout the years changing seasons inspirational. Whether taking walks in the woods or on the beach, the light never disappoints. Camp Hero was a former Air Force Station in Montauk, now part of Camp Hero State Park. It was during a walk here at sunset that my mind's eye captured and remembered the forceful color explosion that turned into this painting.

acrylic paint 48 x 30 x 1.5" There are moments when the majesty of gigantic trees reflected in the water causes me to stop in my tracks, taking in the beauty and the stillness. In an almost magical flow, this painting emerged from my memories of such moments.

acrylic on paper 16 x 16" The Southwest US national parks never fail to inspire me. Having recently spent time in Arches, Canyonlands, and Capital Reef National Parks, I was entranced. Their magnificent sandstone arches, natural bridges and other geologic formations, set against intense blue skies, captivated my imagination. Powerful forces of nature fashioned these breath-taking landscapes over millions and millions of years. I am reminded there that we humans are new to the earth; this perspective gives me pause and centers my spirit, as does the act of painting them.

photograph 8 x 10" It is very exciting for snow to fall in the dry desert- so when it does I cannot resist taking photographs of the wonder of it all. This "happening" is so ephemeral that within a few hours it is all melted and gone. The light here is different than my home town in New Jersey. It has a different glow- very spiritual and other worldly especially the shot of the large tree. Additional shipping/delivery charges will be handled between artist and buyer after the purchase.

Acrylic Painting and Cut Paper 24 x 18 in

collage on canvas 24 x 18 x 1" When I was working on this series I felt that these faces starring back at me were powerful and fierce and I wondered where was I going with these images. They slowly evolved by the addition of several symbolic images- Crosses, Birds & feathers. Crosses dividing the face - We are all two spirits the good and evil, the yes & no. Birds - I put birds on the eyes- Birds eye view of life! They are soaring through the sky with their eyes wide open! I like the old saying “See the soul through ones eyes” Feathers: In different Native American communities, the feather has many different meanings. It represents wisdom, spirituality, honor, respect, energy and also represents the sky and air.

This piece is part of an on going series of works. I have selected one work from each of my series: Evil Eye Protection & #13 -Tissue paper, recycled fruit crates, wire, paint on canvas.

encaustic 10 x 10 x 2" Caribbean Cottages is inspired by the vibrant colors that abound in tropical seaside towns. encaustic on cradled panel 14 x 11 x 2" Winter presents a dichotomy of emotions and feelings to me. On the one hand, the holidays render it a festive time of year replete with family gatherings and traditions. In Polar Caps, I was referencing glaciers and ice fields in the northern latitudes and how extremely quiet and lonely it must be. This is the true duality of winter. encaustic on wool, silk, paper, & cotton 5.5 x 9.5 x 1" Dot Bergen is fascinated by processes that reference the passage of time; nature profoundly influences her work. She has always been captivated with mineralization, fossilization, weathering and erosion. There is beauty and power in change, but there is also a sense of vulnerability, the idea that nothing is constant. "Creating a temporal landscape of an ongoing process encourages the viewer to contemplate the past conditions contributing to this portrayal." In Dead Man's Party, Dot explores the fragility of the human relationship with the ever-changing natural world. Formed and Welded Steel 61 x 36 x 19"I engage our human and environmental predicament at the meeting place between serendipity and intention; where the beauty of the sacred found is enriched by fabrication. My art responds to crises in order to be a force for healing – on both individual and community levels. What we pay attention to, and how that affects what we choose to keep or throw away, be they materials, ideas, people, or specifics of the natural environment, can change the stories we tell and the potentials we allow. Materials picked up in the forest and desert, old things, everyday things – long used, or used and discarded – possess a resonance of memory and time; they are rich with meaning, nostalgia and reference. I make use of these references, enhancing, enlarging, and redefining their meanings through combining the unexpected. This process allows me to see how we might deflect a disheartening and destructive trajectory and generate different possibilities for our story.
