“Shades of Cool,” is a portrait of my son, David: arms crossed, head held high, and sporting hip sunglasses to emanate a cool and confident vibe. Folded arms display authority, power, and a “badass” persona. Sunglasses symbolize mystery, coolness, protection, and status, acting as a barrier that hides emotions and creates privacy while projecting confidence, power, and a rebellious or cool mindset. My composition intertwines the realistic and fantastical worlds, with the powerful, daring, use of vibrant complimentary colors to offset his jaunty, optimistic attitude. This dynamic pairing of orange and blue captures vibrancy and balance, excitement and serenity, as well as energy alongside peace, to evoke many shades of cool.
