In Crossings, I address the notion of a fraught crossing from one place to another. This is a continuation of the work that I began a few years ago with Night Boats. The wall-hung pieces and mixed media sculptures are patched together from a variety of media and found objects, seemingly fragile yet in fact resilient. They represent the resourcefulness and determination needed in order to undertake a perilous voyage into the unknown. Crossings also alludes to more symbolic voyages into the unknown. Physical gaps in the work, that appear to be filled with light or with or with stormy darkness, are spanned by delicate threads and illusions.
