“I’m disappearing with my words,” said the Reading Teacher, dear friend. Vascular Dementia prevents her telling her story. On Tuesdays we laugh, despair, communicate about politics and wars, and draw-except her drawing has “gone, all gone.” Bereft, we watched another loss slide away. Watercolors bring joy; abstract, delicate strokes of color emerge. ‘Irony’ my portrait and painting of leaves, her favorites like years of women’s pages, scattered. It acknowledges her intellect and anger, and reflects that of others. Today, unexpectedly, she demanded, “Get out there, tell them.”
