The Night Brings Freedom
collage: rice, gelee, Mulberry papers, acrylic paint and markers, fabric and thread
10 x 15
After 4 years studying painting at Tyler School of Art in the 1970’s, life led me into a private
practice in psychology. My desire to return to art never left me. Ten years ago, after
experiencing significant losses, I rekindled my passion for art. I feel whole again and
continue helping others heal, along with my healing through art.
I create abstract paintings and collages exploring grief/loss. In the process I
uncover joy, strength, courage and resilience. Layering, blending and glazing shapes and
colors keep those no longer here visible and remembered. Drawing in lines bonds me
to others. These lines remind me of Kintsugi, a Japanese art of mending broken
pottery into something more beautiful and resilient. I intentionally show staples and ripped
paper- grief is messy and my art mirrors this.
Making art gives me purpose, endless possibilities and awakens an excitement
that will last me a lifetime.
