Shahnameh Oil on Canvas Size of Piece: 36 x 48 The painting is inspired by childhood memories. Somehow, translations of Persian texts of Ferdowsi's poems Shahnameh penetrated into Siberia behind the Iron Curtain. The phenomenon of a foreign culture that came to the snows of Siberia to surprise and enchant with its exotic fantasy is reflected here in the form of an image of a Persian prince appearing either in a dream or in reality to a Siberian lady. Social Hour Acrylic on Canvas Size of Piece: 30 x 40 x 1.5 Dinner with my nonagenarian friends inspired this piece and is why I called it "Social Hour" I decided to render them through colors and shapes so the focus would be on the connection between them and on the mood of the moment rather than on their features. What I see, hear, feel and experience makes its way into my art. Growing up in multiple cultures influences my work, and my love of fairy tales, fiction, fantasy, and sci-fi seeps through as well. I paint mostly in acrylics and gouache and love to experiment with a variety of techniques and materials. At times my work is autobiographical as I aim to tell a story, convey a feeling, or share memories. In Social Hour my focus was on friendship and aging. Through the use of vibrant colors, a sense of movement, and unexpected imagery, I hope the viewer is drawn into my work in a way that provides space for their own interpretation. Two Critical Questions Acrylic Size of Piece: 42 x 51 x 1.5 Hayoon Jay Lee is an interdisciplinary artist who explores the tension between indulgence and abnegation as it exists in terms of mind and body as well as on a socio-political level. Her work locates points of contact between Korean material tradition and Western avant-garde vocabulary by using rice shape and rice as an object, motif, commodity, and metaphor. As a building block of civilizations and a marker of wealth differences, rice allows Lee to conceptually play with points of conflict conceptually — oscillating between attraction and repulsion, between Orient and Occident— with the aim of ultimately encouraging reflection on the different ways our conditions and fates are interlinked. Renowned for integrating rice-inspired motifs and organic, visceral shapes in her paintings, sculptures, installations, performances, and videos, Lee’s work features figures embedded within rice forms. This painting emerged as an unfolding, evolving process that presented infinite possibilities until I realized it was not about choosing a single direction. The woman holds a bouquet of flowers—symbols of beauty and hope—but she doesn’t seem to feel their warmth. Her gaze is distant, her expression unreadable, as if the struggles she’s faced have left her numb. The deep purple tones wrap around her like a lingering sadness, while the bright yellow background reminds us that life’s warmth still exists, even when it feels out of reach. Historically, though, women are described as goddesses, spirits, mythical beings from fairytales and scriptures - we are holy and dangerous. We are everything man desires and everything he fears, his source of life and his terror at the thought of death, of loss. All these contradictions stir many questions and emotions, but we learn to find the balance in life. Dance of the Lily Pads Color Pencil on Drafting Film Size of Piece: 23 x 30 Realism is the style that I have embraced for my work. Perhaps the truth is that it embraced me, flowing naturally from my hand, with inspiration coming from the world around me. Colored pencil is the medium I have chosen for most of my work. What started as a lifestyle choice (pencils are clean and easily transportable from primary residence to lake house) became an artistic choice. I’m a control freak - free and loose is NOT my style - so colored pencils are the perfect medium for me. Their layering and blending capabilities, the transparency of some colors, and vibrant pigments help me convey the interplay of color and light in my subject matter. At times, I use colors that are more brilliant or saturated than what I see in nature. It pleases me, and I hope it pleases the viewer. 2 Fer Photography Size of Piece: 24 x 36 I started my artist’s journey copying images of greeting cards in pencil before I was called to dinner. Later I was given an Instamatic camera for my seventh birthday, and I began to take pictures. Picture taking continues until this very day. My creative family of engineers, milliners and dress designers/fabricators. impacted by my artistic endeavors. During my early college years, I became infatuated with sailing, impacting my photography focus along with textiles using sails as a medium. As a health care interior designer, I was responsible for the look and feel of 12 million sq ft of interior space for a level one trauma center. ‘Outlier” was awarded the jurors choice by Henrietta Faith Design Theoretician, Lines and Curves, PH21 Gallery, Budapest. My images ‘Waterset' & ‘Opportunity ‘are recognized for honorable mention-Luice International Photography Awards two years running are key achievements.
